The screen flickered to reveal Emily Maitlis standing in front of the towers of the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. She looked a little pale, which did not exactly stand out in Salt Lake City, but otherwise no worse for wear. "Yes, Andrew, due to my rapid healing factor, the Tomorrow People did have that in the TV show, right, I've already recovered from surgery."
"Could you just explain for the viewers...?"
"Yes, well, as you know, in Utah you are not allowed to bring tea across the border on pain of death-"
"-I'm not sure if that's actually-"
"-and so," Maitlis continued, "I've had to have an internal IV drip of PG Tips installed to avoid dying while I'm here. But now that's done, I'm ready to head into the Tabernacle to confront, I mean interview, Evan McMullin, most successful of the Alliance Party campaigners..."
The camera crew, clearly not having recovered so swiftly from their own char-transplant procedures, belatedly followed Maitlis as she walked up the steps to the Tabernacle. The sounds of music could be heard resonating from the walls of the hetereodox temple, which was surely no surprise. What
was surprising, however, was the fact that said music mostly seemed to consist of the repeating beat 'unst. unst. unst. unst' and it was accompanied by multicoloured disco lights and dry ice fumes.
Maitlis emerged into the interior and blinked. All around her, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir were singing backing vocals to an upbeat song led by an unseen singer:
"
I moved out to Langley recently
With a plain and simple dream
Wanna infiltrate some third-world place
And topple their regime..."
The wall exploded, revealing Evan McMullin in dark glasses and suit, clinging to a wrecking ball and belting his lungs out:
"
Yeah, it's a party in the CIA
It's a party in the CIA..."
"Mr McMullin!" Maitlis snapped, sounding scandalised. The music gradually wound down. "What do you think you're doing?"
McMullin raised his dark glasses and winked. "Well, I thought I would celebrate our successes-"
"Yes, but, I mean, couldn't you have just gone out for an Egg McMuffin or some sort of reference to that meme?"
"You forget I actually did that in actual real life, no really," McMullin explained, "so we have to escalate further or it's not funny, is it. So instead, you see, there's this Weird Al Yankovic parody of a Miley Cyrus song-"
"WHICH IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SONG TO THE ONE WHERE SHE RIDES A WRECKING BALL!" Maitlis snapped, then blanched and felt under her ribcage. "Dammit, that's dislodged the milk stent...now there's a sugar cube lodged in my pancreas."
McMullin opened his mouth to reply, only to be interrupted by a fresh result:

"Five seats!" McMullin crowed in triumph. "And we finally topped the polls somewhere! This calls for a raucous celebration with um..." He paused for a moment. "Whatever it is we're still allowed to celebrate with."
"Yes, Mr McMullin's campaign certainly has born fruit with the Mormon voters of Utah and Idaho," Maitlis said, half talking to the camera. "But given how much more successful it has been than all the other components of the Alliance Party, and the wildly divergent views of those factions, how long will it be until the unity of the party is threatened?"
No sooner had Maitlis spoken that a large wall tapestry of Jesus planting a flag on Vancouver Island was twitched aside to reveal a wild-eyed Gary Johnson. "You won' get away wit' this!" he said incoherently, then raised what appeared to be a rolled-up newspaper to his lips. "Smoke weeed eeevvery dayyy...." Blood began trickling from his ears even before McMullin's first bullet zinged overhead.
"Back to the studio," Maitlis said hastily, ducking under an ornate table and checking what looked like a Tamagotchi. "Shit, now my blood's turned to builder's brew..."
"Thank you Emily," Neil coughed. "And can we now give the statewide seats for Utah, Jeremy?"
