The Land of Mist and Snow: Kim Lee [WIP]
kim_lomas_crop.png

kim_lomas.png
Name: Kim Tài Káyọ̀dé-Lǐ. Just call her Kim Lee, it's easier.
Age: 34 (12 May 2380)
Gender: Female [Transitioned in her teens].
Position: Councillor in the Emergency Council
Place of Origin: Earth, but based in Callisto.
Faction: Pomonite (Tellurian)

List of Positions/Offices Held:

- Member of the Kayode-Lee Family (2384-present)
- Student at the Metropolitan University, Paris (2397-2401)
- Peacekeeper Officer (2401-2411)
- Unofficial "Influencer"/Socialite on Callisto (2411-2413)
- Councillor in the Emergency Council (2413-present)

Biography:
Can be as simple or as complex as you'd like. I will generate a basic positive trait (+5) based on what you write here.

Stances:
Power and Control (Where does your character want power to be placed? What sort of government are they in favor of?)
- Pro-Assembly (The Mandate Assembly on Luna has our best interests at heart. We are merely acting in their absence, and when it is re-established we should disband this Council.)
- Pro-Devolution (The Council is an overdue measure and perfect for us now. Jovians should decide what Jovians do. Democracy is the way forward.)
Kim: "Ideally we should seek to preserve this Council, it's a reasonable local administration, but it ideally should be answerable to the Mandate."

Jovian Nationalism (How does your character view the emerging debates on Jovian Nationalism?)
- Status-Quo (UN control has kept us prosperous. We'd be fools to let that go to waste.)
Kim: "What? Hm. No. No real need to rock the boat."

Economics (What sorts of things should be done to keep our ledgers in the black?)
- State Interventionism (The state has to have the power to intervene should things get rough. Stability and cautious growth is the name of the game.)
Kim: "Some people think the free market is the cure. I'm not like that. The economy should be stabilised by the state."

Policing and Peacekeepers (How your character views the UN Peacekeepers and militaries in general.)
- Peacekeeper Supporter (The Peacekeepers have done an admirable job keeping us all safe from subversive elements, and they should be either kept or replicated.)
Kim: "Sure there's some bad apples. I'm not that naive. But the important thing is that we all can admire its important role in preserving peace."

Development and Impact on Europa (What does your character think about colonial development and our impact on Europa's ecosystems?)
- Preservationist (The creatures in Europa's seas should be kept safe. We should do what we did on Earth, make nature preserves and limit industrial practices.)
- Restrictive Developmentalist (Certainly we can keep expanding our industry without unduly impacting the wildlife?)
Kim: "I'm not keen on restricting development overtly. There can be some reasonable restrictions, some preserves. There's a balance really."

Automation (The Karnak Crisis may be unprecedented, but the fears of killer robots and rogue AIs have always been present in human culture. What does your character think should be done?)
- Radical Transhumanist (If we are to achieve true ascendancy, we must merge humans with machines.)
- Advocate (There are industries where humans still operate at risk that machines would be able to work in without an issue. Let us continue to expand what robots can do.)
Kim: "Look, one day. Not now. I have a lot of stuff that I need to do first."

3D Printing (People can print almost anything they like from the comfort of their home. What does your character think should be done?)
- Moderate Restrictions (Printing is a vital asset to our society, yet weapons of war and death should be off-limits.)
Kim: "There's no real point in allowing people to replicate weapons of death, really."

Corruption (Corruption is ever a persistent problem [or potential place to benefit] in society. How does your character view the ongoing struggle against corruption?)
- Anti-Corruption (Corruption isn't great, and should be dealt with in due time.)
Kim: "Corruption is bad. Duh."

Loyalty (Where does your character place their loyalty and their faith? What are they most dedicated to, and who will they follow when times get tough?)
- System (Jupiter as a whole is a place most unique in all the solar system. One must be a champion of everyone in this system if we are to emerge through this crisis intact.)
- UN (The United Nations was founded on common principles of decency and cooperation. Clearly following them is the best way to ensure continued prosperity.)
- Humanity (To place your loyalty in all of humanity is to believe in a plan greater than you ever could comprehend, and to not be tied down to simplistic notions of nationality.)
Kim: "If you have to push me - I am loyal to the system. To the UN. And to wider humanity."

But yes, anyway. Yeah. Midjourney has insanely advanced since the last time I used it. As you can see, it can make people that look like people now.

Knew my subscription was worth it. I made this earlier to show you all how insanely quick it developed.

In July, this sort of thing wasn't possible. Insane. Just insane.

In Council [Wycliffe, Wrawe as 'Top Two'] 1391-1393

In Council [Ferrour as 'Top Leader'] 1395
Johanna Ferrour (Burner) 1395-1397*
In Council [no one as 'Top Leader'] 1397-1400

Monarchs of the Kingdom of England (1400-)
Philippa (Lancaster) 1400-

"A tattered crown to an exiled bairn, and peerages to peasants, charters to every town, amnesty for every rebel and outrageous liberties for less-than-respectable women. A peasants' kingdom ran by the rabble, and poor Philippa as their mock-queen."
- Mocking note from France, 1400

"If you Persist with this diabolic Contrivance to impose an Artificial Uniformity on your Lands of England, to rule the Freeman of England as you would the Serf of France, then it falls to us to remind you of the Lesson your Ill-Esteemed Ancestor Richard of Bordeaux failed to learn. Persist with this foul Machination and we will rally a second Rising to reclaim our freeborn Rights."
- First Convenor John Lilburne to King William IV, 1657.

"The Great Rising, for all its consequences, marked England out forever as a radical and discontented country with the memory of republic - or in English speak, the 'commonland' - farther back than in other countries. Even with the Union of the Crowns, the rights secured by the Rising prevailed even as the House of Plantagenet-Lancaster became the House of Condé in the 1600s. First Convenor John Lilburne notably threatened King William IV in the 17th century with 'a second Rising to reclaim our freeborn rights' if he persisted with his attempts at 'uniformity'..."
- From The Oxford Resources on the Great Rising, published 11 August 1989

"Who can say of England's great radicals who led this country to everlasting glory? Wat Tyler and Johanna Ferrour of the Rising? Jack Cade and John Lilburne of the following two centuries? Thomas Paine and the Public Universal Friend in the Second Reformatory Era? The ages that followed? Not even the monarch from Paris dares to consider the idea of the 'poll tax', especially after the French Rising in the 1700s led to true 'uniformity'!"
- Speech by Commoners' Party leader Liberty Barebone in 2011, defending her self-identified label as a 'radical'.

apijzccwn__00071.1626668554.jpg

Merle Oberon
Name: Tiffany Astrid Naomi Osbaldsdottir Tostig-Byrben. "Naomi Tostig-Byrben", thank you very much. Uses the pen-name "Naomi Zoffany".
House: Tostig-Byrben (#379479)
Date of Birth & Age at Appointment:
14 April 1895 [roughly in her 40s]
Relation to the Previous Claimant: Daughter of AEtheling Osbald and his first wife Princess Hanna.
Party: TBD
Personality:
Intellectual, but more of a broad mind than a deep one. Very keen on athletic pursuits. Really does not like being 'controlled', and very much associates republicanism with personal freedom. There's no one more passionate about it than her, funnily enough.
Political Sympathies: Left-liberal, Fabian to an extent, extremely sceptical of the old aristocracy and of the radical-right
Style of Rule: Firm constitutionalist, respecting the boundaries of her office. However, if it veers away from her sympathies, she will take action to nudge it back towards respecting liberties and people's rights, and won't hesitate. Her main focus is cultural affairs [albeit a very broad interpretation] and will interpret her office's powers quite broadly to push matters into a more liberal, 'free-thinking' path.
Origins: Everyone knows who Naomi Tostig-Byrben, or Naomi Zoffany, is. The heir's heir at the time the monarchy was abolished, her "Letter to the Executor" was very notable in calling for a republic. Now well into her 40s, she has become a notable Mesopotamian writer under her uncle's ancestral family's surname - earning her the nickname of "The Last Great Zoffany", and has returned to Bryten a good few years ago. Eventually, she decided to stand for election to the Ealdorman position on a clear left-liberal platform with a hint of "tough leadership" mixed in.
Spouse/Potential Marriage: None of your business.

TBD

Short Term Goals: (How will you respond to the immediate problems facing the nation? 1-3 goals max.)

Long Term Goals: (What will you do in the long run? These can be broader, legacy policies Maximum of 3 but less is perfectly acceptable.)

This is in a sense a 'redo' of Turn Around, Bright Eyes. The time is 2020 [month and day tbd] and this won't change.

This will be far more critical of colonialism than even TABE was, and highlight lots of weird stuff that happens.

Colour scheme is Cassy's Colours v2, which is impressively in-depth, and that's why I chose a much bigger map this time.

Shine Like A Starlight: Introduction
slas logo header.png
What is Shine Like A Starlight?

Well, as a colour-scheme-based map it’s going to be a bit inconsistent, but the basic concept is basically this.

Colonisation of the Americas somehow at some level fails. No Columbian exchange, or a drastically weakened version. This allows for the many surviving indigenous polities one sees on a colour scheme.

This together with a subtly different Europe leads to economic crisis compounding on the religious civil wars and Europe basically retreats from the world for a bit. In the end, the European Imperium wins and unites the continent behind its ‘Rationalist Autocracy’. This is basically a very warped version of the Enlightenment, one far more darker and without its more liberating aspects.

What is the European Imperium?

Well, I imagine it came out of the Holy Roman Empire and somehow the Byzantine Empire as well. Maybe a Chalcedonian reunification in an attempt to forge a counter-reformation before it ends up making a deal with Protestants or something, the final and most ‘true’ form of translatio imperii so to speak. The Imperium ends up taking advantage of disunity elsewhere to ensure it is the sole European power – via deals, bribery, incorporation and what have you – benefited by the fact that the ‘western powers’ sank lots of money into failed colonisation.

The Imperium in the 18th century – with Europe finally reunited – pushes for a ‘renewed’ colonisation effort, motivated by a belief that the failure of colonisation the first time caused the European Civil Wars [as they are called in ATL]. There is a strong desire to conquer the world – EIOU – Europae est imperare orbi universo, aka: all the world is subject to Europe.

Unfortunately for the world, the Imperium proves successful for quite a while. Lots of conquest, lots of colonisation, lots of horrid war crimes I don’t think is necessary to cover here. Just know it’s bad. But by 2020, the Imperium is facing lots of rough waters, it’s pushed to its breaking point, radical anti-imperial ideologies are spreading and there’s increasingly cracks everywhere.

The imperium is fading, the time is come to account it for its crimes.

Technology by 2020 is, I would say, roughly 100 years behind OTL – so expect a lot of dieselpunk stuff, I would say. Socially, it probably seriously varies to be honest, I need to somehow justify a lot of stuff here, this is a world expressly constructed to justify a lot of stuff one sees in colour schemes after all, unlike TABE where it was kind of post hoc and inconsistent.

I do hope you all like what I have planned.
