Notes on potential PMs for The Newer Aeon or whatever I decide to name the sequel
- Right-wing people has to be Eurocrats, but really racist ones, to imply that they were sucked into NEO
- Someone involved in the Co-op for a socialist PM
- Duncan Sandys
- Tufton Beamish
- Rab Butler maybe?
- Harold Macmillan, he's the Kishi, of course
- Gwilym Lloyd George?

Notes for a potential third part of the Ministry series - The Ministry of Peace
- Supercomputer AI, BRITANNIA
- It's all about how it slowly takes over the country

In Order To Create: Jutsuo Youm / The Taewon

l7lxcdxq5m7.jpg
Name - Jutsuo Youm [name given before birth] / The Taewon [name given at birth]
Species - Ariese [Near-Human]
Gender - Female
Year of Birth/Age - 18 BBY / 9759 CRC (27 years old)
System/Region - Aria Prime, Outer Rim
Faction - Reformists - Action Wing

List of Public Offices Held -
- Taewon (18 BBY - present)
- Senator from Aria Prime (9 ABY - present)

Key Traits/Goals - Secure the Republic against what she sees as complacency against the threats that still bedevil it, and ensure that politics do not fall to the vicious ways of old. Essentially a very cynical view of the Galactic Republic with a very intense belief in the idea of "kinder, gentler politics".

When she was born with incredibly pale skin and bright blue eyes, she was immediately given a name. A name that meant everything to her people, a name that meant great power and prestige. The Taewon, the One Who Completes The Circle. Born seventy days after the last Taewon died, her birth was announced to everyone, and she was taken into the sanctuary temple of Gyeonpang to be instructed in all the ways she could uphold the sacred duties of a living god to her people.

She knew no name but that of the Taewon for her first seventeen years on Aria Prime. After all, she was a living god, the reincarnation of the last living god. She was beyond mortal knowledge. It was a deeply sacred role, and one foisted on a girl who grew up with a deeply lonely life. At times she resented her role. Other times she grew resigned to it. What she did know was that she was unhappy. Even her supposed childhood friends were intimidated by her… Taewon-ness.

Her mentors all said the same thing – that it was attachment to this life that she had to surpass. She had to embrace her role and be the living god the people needed. They decided that she had to go around the various temples to learn more of the diverse cultures of her planet, her people. It was at one of those temples that she was approached by two old people – a man and a woman. She looked at them questioningly. They looked at her with the same reverence everyone did, but there was something else in their eyes. Curious of this, she encouraged them to speak.

The man introduced himself as Hetai Youm and his wife as Michi Toihei. They explained their story, they only had one daughter, Rami, who they looked after. Rami was a very energetic woman, and fairly sexually liberated. She eventually fell pregnant by one of her lovers, and died shortly after childbirth. The Taewon raised her eyebrow.

“The baby was pale, with sapphire eyes and white fuzz on her head. That baby is you, Your Holiness. We… are your grandparents.” They said, uncertain of how a living god would react. The Taewon took a deep breath and closed her eyes, before ordering every one of her servants to leave the room and ensure that she was alone with her grandparents. “It is my divine will that you leave me in this room until I make egress”, she said in her best authoritative voice.

She then looked up at her grandparents and just broke down. It was so easy after a time to believe that she was just unusually selected, that she was ‘just’ the Taewon. Presented with the reality that she actually had a family cracked that delusion. Her grandparents slowly moved to console her. They got to talking, and she finally asked them if her mother ever came up with a name for her.

“Yes she did. It was Jutsuo, wasn’t it, Michi? Jutsuo Youm.”

Jutsuo Youm.

At the age of seventeen, she received the name that if not for an accident of birth, she would have received at that birth. Yet it felt right. Yet it felt like it was always her name.

While careful to maintain her divine image, she ensured that she could spend more time with her grandparents every chance she could get, as it felt like a balm on her lonely soul. Meanwhile, she was increasingly burdened by letters and orders as the priests deemed her ready to take on the other duties of her divine role. It is in those duties that she became far more aware of the delicate nature of Aria Prime’s situation in the Galactic Empire, and of the brewing civil war.

Sure, they would dub it a revolution later on, but every revolution is a civil war at first. Acutely aware of her impressive hold on the populace as their Taewon, and with growing knowledge of the power of the Empire’s Death Star, Jutsuo would shy away from public declarations, even if she privately reached out to some of the Rebels, and she eventually decided after the destruction of the Death Star to throw her hat, and her people, in with the Rebellion. She made the speech to her people in her most divine manner yet, invoking Aria Prime’s history and her predecessors’ wisdom – this she wasn’t lying about, she did have visions [or bad dreams?] of them counselling her to commit to what was “right and just”, not just what was easy – to justify the commitment to the Rebellion.

The following years were not easy.

Her people followed her, of course. Many out of respect and adoration for their Taewon, but most because they deeply disliked the Empire as is and she was just the final move. However, the Empire did not react well to this defection, and even though they were slowly collapsing, they had enough troops to make Aria Prime a misery for everyone there. She had to go into hiding a good few times, and had to quickly nip in the bud one or two of her priests casting doubt on if this was a good idea.

In the end, Aria Prime got off lightly, even though the people did not see it as that. She felt deeply responsible for all the deaths, and made sure to bless as many of the graves as possible, personally, deeming them holy martyrs, people who died for a sacred cause. She held many of their mourning relatives’ hands and mourned with them, gave them the chance to let out their emotions. This was far more personal and intimate than past Taewons – who were content to be the distant ‘wise’ scholar in their temples – ever did, and this gave her a strong intense reputation as the Taewon to many. The one who completed the circle, more than her predecessors.

The priests mutter, but her popularity continues to be sky-high.

After blessing her grandfather’s grave, Jutsuo and her Prime Delegate (she’s slowly constructing a kind of constitutionalism since she loathes paperwork) has received a request to name a Senator to the New Galactic Republic. Upon conferring, and making sure her Prime Delegate (a first cousin who’s a nun) is ready, she has elected to accept the post for herself. Aria Prime sees her not just as the Taewon, but as the Taewon, the one who led them out of the Empire and into the Republic, the one who holds mourners’ hands, the one who blesses the many graves of the holy martyrs.

But as she changes out of her holy robes into a white suit on board her spaceship, Jutsuo Youm hopes she can be more than that exalted role.

Can a goddess truly be a person?
  • Demilitarization:
    • Watchmen: The Planetary Defense Forces should be empowered so that individual star systems can have the level of protection they feel they need and can pay for, to support a reasonable Republic fleet. [Reformist, Mercantilist]
  • Deimperialization:
    • Amnesty: Upon swearing a "Durasteel Oath" that a person had never voluntarily supported the Empire and after completing a re-education course, these low level officers and officials are free to do what they can to improve the New Republic. High level officers and officials deserve far more scrutiny and surveillance, however. [Reformist, Unionist]
  • Factions and Political Parties:
    • Partisan Actor: Of course we need united political parties. We saw how gridlock facilitated the rise of Palpatine - with parties we can ensure parliamentary business happens smoothly, and it gets the galactic population invested in politics for once. [Unionist, Directist]
  • Economics:
    • Interventionist: When the situation demands it, the government must be allowed to intervene to the best of its ability with price caps and other measures in order to force economic stability. Otherwise, we risk letting untold numbers of citizens suffer needlessly under the cruelty of the "free market". [Unionist]
  • Foreign Policy:
    • Integration: The New Republic is the strongest nation in the galaxy and more star systems are seeking to join every day. Let us bring all nations under our banner, but let them join when they wish. Time is on our side. [Unionist, Reformist]
  • Governmental Structure:
    • A New Republic: The Old Republic had its flaws. If we are to move into the future and be the new hope the galaxy needs, we must adapt as need demands and be strong enough to ensure this Experiment does not fail. [Unionist, Reformist, Mercantilist]
  • Core Versus Rim:
    • Compromiser: The entire galaxy played a part in overthrowing the Empire, let us not devalue any one region. [Reformist, Mercantilist]
  • Galactic Diversity:
    • Pluralist: The galaxy is a diverse place, let us respect that. [Unionist, Traditionalist, Mercantilist, Determinist]
  • Organized Crime:
    • Gradualist: With enough time we can beat back organized crime and limit their influence. Small efforts will lead to big results over time. [Directist, Reformist]
  • The Role of the Jedi:
    • Suspicious: What are those sorcerers and wizards up to? Can't be anything good. We need to keep and eye on them. [Directist, Determinist]
  • Corruption:
    • "Anti"-Corruption: We should stop corruption (or whatever isn't going into my pockets). [Mercantilist, Unionist, Determinist]

Did Enoch Powell ever achieve his dream of becoming Viceroy or I suppose they'd probably call it Governor General of India in this timeline? I feel even sorrier for the Indians if he did.

Did Enoch Powell ever achieve his dream of becoming Viceroy or I suppose they'd probably call it Governor General of India in this timeline? I feel even sorrier for the Indians if he did.
It would be darkly funny if Governor-General Powell tried to reassure Indians about minority rule by boasting about his Indian scholarly knowledge. "So, Mr. Desai, you and your Congress want India to be ruled by Indians? Well I can recite the works of Kabir backwards, so that's basically the same thing".

Kingmaker: Vicky Michael
564f311288ef2_o_medium.jpg

Joanna Augustynowska
Name: Victoria Terence "Vicky" Michael
DOB: 1 April 1982 (28 years old)
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White English
Faith: Christian (Anglican)
Party (Faction): Conservative (Traditionalist)
Occupation and Political Posts: Member of Parliament for The Cotswolds (2009-present)
Bio: Geoffrey Clifton-Brown’s successor after his ignoble fall is a ‘little thing’, as some elder Tories dismiss her as. Vicky Michael comes from new money, her parents are flush with money as a result of Thatcher’s policies favouring the financial sector and she has an adopted teenage sister who is originally from China. Michael is a very determined woman who wants to make something of herself. As Clifton-Brown’s successor in the safe seat of The Cotswolds, she has the position to do such.

Meanwhile, as much as she talks of the perfection of the nuclear family – although after a one-on-one talk with David Cameron she has shifted away from overtly talking of ‘male and female’ to reflect the current state of politics – her romantic life is a wreck. She have had six boyfriends and none of them have truly ‘clicked’ with her, much to her frustration. She can hear murmurs from some older Tories in her constituency that she needs to be less ‘picky’ about her choice in men, and it bristles.

This little thing with so much resentment is of course standing for re-election.

Budget and the Deficit
Centre Right: Not tax rises but not tax cuts, some minor borrowing. Cut the deficit.

Crime
Right Wing: Bring back the death penalty, long prison sentences, very limited community sentence use.

Devolution
Centre Right: Control what powers exist through devolution and us the UK parliament where necessary for checks and balances. No further expansion of local government powers. English votes for English laws.

Economic Strategy
Centre Right: The state and business must work together but business is the driver for economic development.

Education
Centre Right: Keep private education, allow for religious school expansion.

Environment
Centre Right: We will help the environment but lets not throw our economy or stability to the dogs doing it.

The EU
Centre Right: We should remain in Europe but there is a strong need for reform, any new deal with Europe should be subject to a referendum.

Foreign Policy (You can pick multiple, maximum of 2 and they must be compatible)
EU Focus: The EU must now be our focus. Most of our trade and economic stability comes from the EU.
Commonwealth Focus: We used to rule the world once. With Tony focusing on America and others believing our place was with Europe it is time to become Global Britain once again.

Immigration
Right Wing: Cut immigration, reduce numbers of asylum seekers and refugees, restrict where immigrants can come from.

The Armed Forces
Right Wing: Sizable expansion to our military, remain a member of NATO.

Nuclear Weapons
Centre Right: Renew Trident

The NHS
Centre: Invest in the NHS, leave private healthcare as it is.

The Welfare State
Centre Right: Bring in reforms and minor reductions to support on offer.

Royal Mail
Centre Right: Privatise Royal Mail but make sure employees can own shares.

LGBT Rights
Right Wing: Decrease LGBT rights, increase the age of consent.

Integrity in Politics
We should have more accountability for Members of Parliament through greater scrutiny by civil society.

Ooh, some Richard Livsey action, also love the B&W photos for the Liberals.

Thanks! We're getting into some weird stuff here where there's a Liberal PM, but he's not leader of the Liberal Party, it's all a bit fucky coalitiony.
Is this the Liberal Alliance, Roy Jenkins thing on the other place, forgot the name of it .
