Very interesting. What would this map look like?

The Second Glorious Revolution
After the death of King Frederick I, it was thought that his fiercest rival - in good, Hanoverian tradition, his eldest son and heir - might be a change for the better for Great Britain. George III was seen as a thoughtful man, with an interest in agriculture, as well as being a proper Anglican who had been raised in Great Britain - the first British monarch to do so on both fronts in the better part of a century. Nevertheless, his father’s spendthrift rule and his constant loggerheads with Parliament had left a moribund government in London, thoroughly resented by nearly all comers, even by its own participants, and George III was little interested in governing; he left the government to his favorites from Parliament, now only rarely elected and, as had been since the fall of the First Commonwealth, as corrupt as one could imagine.

In 1789, just over a hundred years after the first Glorious Revolution, after a desperate, bitter dispute between the King’s ministry and Parliament over the country’s massive debt crisis left over from King Frederick’s rule, London burst out into revolt...

The revelations of an affair between President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky turned an easy re-election campaign into an era-defining political battle. Given that Democrats had adopted Republican policies on welfare reform and deficit reduction, Dole was left to condemn gangster rap and Tarantino movies while lauding the accomplishments of the Greatest Generation. While these strategies failed at first, the Lewinsky scandal allowed these issues to strike a chord. In addition, Dole promised to run for only one term, addressing the age issues associated with him. The biggest sign that Dole had a chance was Colin Powell's last-minute decision to accept the vice-presidential slot, with the private offer of the post of Secretary of State. In addition, Ross Perot's inclusion in the presidential debates gave Democrats a chance to voice their protest to Clinton without voting Republican.

While Dole enjoyed positive approval ratings, the Republicans were still dragged down by Speaker Gingrich's divisive rhetoric. In the 1998 midterms, the Democrats retook the House. Dick Gephardt was poised to take the position, but the outgoing Minority Leader chose instead to run for president. As a result, Minority Whip David Bonior (a member of DSA) took the speaker's gavel.

Despite his status as the frontrunner, Gephardt lost to the upstart campaign of Warren Beatty. Running off of the success of his hip-hop musical political satire Bulworth, Beatty's willingness to campaign on "Canadian Way" health insurance and other left-wing issues propelled him to victory. On the Republican side, Vice President Powell prevailed in a divisive primary against Texas Governor George W. Bush. Powell's hero status gave him a huge initial lead, but Beatty's strong debate showing and Buchanan's exploitation of the abortion issue brought the election down to the wire. With New Hampshire up for a recount, Beatty walked into the crowd while rapping to supporters, only to be assassinated by disgruntled insurance worker Graham Crockett.

Powell's presidency did not go well, with the economy entering a recession due to the Enron scandal and the Dot-com bubble bursting. However, Powell's long-term legacy was secured through a bargain with Speaker Bonior to pass Canadian Way health insurance. The backlash from Republicans was strong, drawing many to Gov. Foster's Reform Party candidacy. In the end, Minnesota's populist Paul Wellstone was propelled to victory by pledging to continue Warren Beatty's legacy.

With strong majorities, Wellstone established a strong social democratic consensus that brought the country out of the recession. This agenda triggered a right-wing backlash, with a united right under Ralph Reed winning the 2012 presidential election.

Reed's presidency was marred by corruption, necessitating the need for an outsider candidate. After Death Row Records had been targeted by Dole's attorney general Bill Weld, Tupac was forced to start his own label. Quickly the rapper abandoned the violent messaging of his Death Row discography in favor of a politically radical message. At the same time, Shakur became a family entertainment icon with his role as Jedi Master Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequels.

While the backlash to his presidency was enormous, Shakur finally brought together the country to implement his 21st century socialism.

Some fresh shit here Oppo. Powell not just paving the way for socialism, but in many ways playing an integral role in the start of it is great, Ralph Reed is just you showing your fresh 2000s names off, and an evil Bill Weld is also a cool idea. Just wondering how Tupac managed to implement a Soviet democracy in four years.

Just wondering how Tupac managed to implement a Soviet democracy in four years.

he likely didn't. i think Oppo meant to imply that Pac simply oversaw the stewardship of the Social Democratic consensus before Scalise attempted a coup, giving the American socialist movement it's moment to actually revolt and destroy the capitalist mode of production

This is objectively insane, but also something I can absolutely see Lucas galaxy-braining himself into doing. You're so good at plausible madness.
I believe Lucas actually invited Tupac to audition for a role or something before his death, it wasn't confirmed to be Mace Windu but people assume it would have been him or a similar character.

*also served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ulster from 1924 to 1925

The Weltkrieg was a mixed bag for the British Empire. On the one hand, the eventual defeat in Europe was unequivocal and was further reinforced after the Red Summer of 1924. The French Revolution was snuffed out by the Reichsheer like the Bolsheviks before them, but the British on their island were able to repulse the Kriegsmarine just as they had in the last days of 1919. You might have assumed the wider empire would have suffered like their metropole, winnowed away by Berlin and then lost to Wobblies. But you'd be wrong. For the Colonial Office, the war could almost have been considered a victory. Berlin had won it's place in the sun with mastery over Europe, but the Peace With Honour of 1920 had conceded the reality on the ground. The German colonial empire was lost.

It was only for a few short years that Britain and France enjoyed their pyrrhic expansion in Africa. And while the Red Summer saw much of the French empire placed into German 'trust', the British remained a little steadier. While the Royal Navy organised a hurried flight of 'Blues' to Canada, another major institution of the Pre-Revolutionary United Kingdom organised it's own exile. The City and Corporation of London was too important, had it's fingers in too many pies, to simple disappear - even as the Reds stormed the walls. The inhabitants of the Square Mile, and the financial establishment that had put Britain at the centre of the world, quietly packed their bags and looked for a new home. The obvious answer was to follow the rest of the Blues into Canadian hostelry. But the Americans and more importantly, Wall Street, were wary of the City establishing itself on the ground of their northern neighbour. Instead, they found a new host in the home of the suddenly anointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom - South Africa.

The wealth of diamonds and gold in the country put the re-established City And Corporation on a steady footing and helped keep South Africa within the empire, even as India tore itself bloodily away and Japan negotiated control of much of the Pacific. A bloody strike in 1924 was put down and South Africa was governed by martial law for many years. But in the long-run, many of the British exiles who had initially clamoured to Canada began to be drawn to the new centre of power in Africa. Smuts' long, once-interrupted, tenure as Prime Minister saw the sectionalist opposition either driven into extra-legality or split against themselves - and as the exile government took shape, the largest remaining parts of the Empire were increasingly governed from Pretoria.

The new Prime Minister is a British exile, and on the surface things couldn't be better for South Africa and the Empire. The other Dominions maintain good relations, and the King made his move to Cape Town permanent some years ago. The political system appears stable, with the Afrikaaners either isolating themselves on their homesteads or integrating into the system. The Socialists are legal now, with a black leader, but their prospects are limited with the trade union movement firmly under the government's boot, and black electoral opportunities strictly limited. There is talk of accession of former German Tangayika, now known as Smutsland, as a province - joining Southwest Africa and the Rhodesias. Macmillan is also a beneficiary of the 'Second Peace with Honour', which has seen the Empire align with Germany. And all along the way, the presence of the City and Corporation of London has helped pave the way.

A wind of change is blowing however. The young niece of the King is becoming a thorn in the side of the Empire, having moved from Canadian exile to American celebrity. She moves in the circles of black civil rights activists and diplomatic attaches originating from Red Britain. She talks about the wealth which has flowed into the coffers of Cape Town, of the alliances forged with Japan and Germany - the so-called Weltsystem - and of the injustices upon which it has all been built. All of that, is very embarrassing.

You bastard, you made a peak Oppo list again.
Please make it a full TL to add some random Italy stuff into the mix ;)

National-Labour sounds feckin' horrifying, I love it

How large is the Dominion of South Africa by 1952, precisely speaking – and how does global power shifting to Berlin, and British power shifting to Pretoria, affect Egypt and Sudan?

Okay you can hate on Bulworth but its soundtrack gave us that song “Zoom” with Dr. Dre and LL Cool J and this single cover

Pras_-_Ghetto_Superstar_single.jpg

I know, I was more just talking about him rapping on the campaign trail, like a good Kanye (politically not musically of course)
Beatty is like Zelensky where he bases his campaign off of his movie/TV show

Yeah, National-Labour is basically a formalisation of the OTL alliance between Nationals and Labour after the Rand Rebellion. The 1924 elections don't occur in TTL due to the British Revolution and an extended period of military government shores up Smuts' position enough for the two opposition parties to formalise their relationship whilst simultaneously leading to a radicalisation of the Madeley types who actually want to build a relationship with black people.

The Union consists of OTL South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. However, they have responsibility for governing the remaining 'British' colonies in Africa, with a small handful of exceptions (I imagine the Canadians are more involved in stuff associated with the Atlantic). A couple of those colonies are eyed for eventual accession to the Union.

Britain stayed on top in Egypt initially but it fell into the German sphere after the Red Summer. Sudan remains an 'Anglo-Egyptian Condominium' but its de facto a German satellite with some South African involvement.
