I have so many questions. Is Egregiupsaltes the Proprieter from Assassins, or the Balladeer? Did he help drive Teyve out of his village? Was he a courtier to Hades of Hadestown, or summoned by J Wellington Wells, or a contempory of Beetlejuice? Did Evan Hansen sacrifice Connor to Egregiupsaltes for fame, which is why everyone liked that musical even though it was crap?

(These are all rhetorical questions, I'm just trying to express my giddy awe. Except the bit about Dear Evan Hansen that's canon now)

Thank you! I know you said these questions were rhetorical but I’ll discuss:
-Egregiupsaltes probably is the Proprietor since IIRC the Balladeer is much more oppositional to the assassins.
-Didn’t necessarily help actively but given the option of him being summoned by anyone in the village has anti Semitic subtext I’d say it definitely was one of the soldiers or neighboring Russians who hoped to weaponize his abilities against the Jews. EDIT: Maybe Rasputin was responsible as he also likely summoned him before starting the Russian Revolution (as in Anastasia).
-I didn’t actually know about Wells but I’d say he definitely summoned Egregiupsaltes. Regarding Beetlejuice, I’m inclined to make the movie canon take precedence here and have any musical numbers that happen be because of Beetlejuice himself. Hadestown Hades probably doesn’t have the guy himself around but likely took inspiration from him in how he uses his own power.
-I was actually thinking Connor might’ve been the one to summon Egregiupsaltes to help him address his own issues only for it to go wrong and his suicide be an attempt to escape Egregiupsaltes’ plans to drag him to Hell, with the demon lingering around to make everyone sing and see what happens next for entertainment purposes. Evan himself probably is getting nudged in terms of his own actions to make things more fun for the demon.

Also a minor note re: his Buffy appearance: ITTL the theory that Xander took the blame for summoning him when it was in fact Dawn is correct because it being Xander was a dumb concept: Egregiupsaltes just went along with it so he didn’t have to risk Buffy killing him or even just injuring him enough to hamper his work.

Zombism
Zombism is a condition spread via various pathogens characterized primarily by rewiring the central nervous system in ways that weaken sensitivity to pain, remove higher cognitive functions and result in infected individuals targeting noninfected individuals with violence. Zombism has historically at times been used interchangeably with revenancy, the term used to refer to any circumstance where an individual has had all life functions cease yet remain animate. Clinically speaking, those who are reanimated via supernatural means are not considered zombies in the modern era, as though some examples of this act similarly to those infected by the range of diseases causing zombism, such as Inferi, others do not. The term ‘zombie’ is considered a slur when applied to individuals like the teenagers brought back during the Reanimation of 2008 or the members of Franchouchou, whom while clinically dead retain higher cognitive function and are no more predisposed to violence than the average person. The remainder of this article will thus focus on the conditions considered forms of zombism by medical professionals. For most strains of zombism there is no cure outside of supernatural methods (eg: resurrection rituals or use of healing potions), though a few can be defeated with vaccinations, antiviral drugs or alterations of temperature around the host.

The most baseline cause of zombism is the Solanum virus, which has existed for thousands of years. Solanum in nature is only capable of infecting humans in the present, though archaeological evidence suggests that now-largely-extinct species such as dinosaurs or mammoths may have acted as carriers of proto-Solanum viruses that made the jump to humans during the Ice Age. Solanum is universally infectious and transmitted via bites or deep scratches. Anyone infected this way will inevitably die and reanimate seeking to consume any living flesh within 24-48 hours, unless the infected area is amputated immediately. Over the centuries, there have been numerous small outbreaks of Solanum as well as at least one large-scale outbreak in Roman-occupied Britain. Solanum’s first known natural mutation was also in Britain in the 1800’s, where the ‘dreadfuls’ outbreak was sparked by corpses who rose from the graves despite being dead for years. However, Solanum is not the only natural cause of zombism. A plant known as the resurrection herb, native to the Korean Peninsula, is host to a parasitic worm that, if ingested by humans, will reproduce within their bodies and reanimate them, causing them to display behavior similar to Solanum infectees, albeit with some deviations. Those under the influence of the resurrection worms tend to have a low tolerance for warmth, functioning only in darkness or cold conditions. Additionally, the resurrection worms will be purged from the body if infectees are submerged in water, which was used to deal with a Joseon-era outbreak of zombism caused by the resurrection worm.

Both Solanum and the resurrection worm drew the interests of scientists researching biological warfare. The Darwinist Entente Powers of World War I considered using the resurrection worm as a bioweapon at the urging of the Japanese, whom had captured specimens of it from their occupation of Korea. This proposal ultimately was rejected and most of the specimens were destroyed (though the undeterred Dr. Herbert West would persist with his own experiments into the interwar period, which famously ended in disaster). However, it was the Second World War that would pave the way for zombism to become a more potent threat to humanity. Nazi Germany would begin research into Solanum as part of their broader Wunderwaffe efforts. Nazi research would ultimately lead to the creation of the original iteration of the compound known as Trioxin thanks to the efforts of Nazi scientist Edward Richtofen. Richtofen would ultimately have second thoughts about the bioweapon and would aid in destroying many of those infected with the prototype Trioxin alongside a trio of soldiers. However, samples were beyond Richtofen’s control, with a group of American soldiers participating in the D-Day landings having a vicious encounter with some Trioxin infectees during the invasion. This led to the compound being discovered by the Allies. Thanks to intelligence provided by defecting Nazi scientists Frederick Vought and Josef Merkwurdgliebe, the US would seize most samples of Trioxin in the closing days of the Second World War, taking them into American custody. A few were taken into Soviet custody or smuggled out by Hydra operatives.

In the era immediately following the end of the Second World War, it was an alien incursion that led to the first large-scale zombie outbreak. A race of aliens led by one Commander Eros attempted to raise the dead of the planet as part of a plan to prevent humanity from harnessing a universe-threatening element at some point in the future. To that end, the aliens made use of radiation to reanimate the dead to attack the living. The immediate aftermath of this saw the US government ramp up research into Trioxin, seeing the potential controlled reanimated corpses could have in warfare. However, the first containment breach on Trioxin occurred the same year, when a leak near the futurist town of Punchbowl, Pennsylvania reanimated a dead man in the graveyard, who triggered an outbreak that overran the town. Following a second containment breach not too far from the original site in Pennsylvania, President Esker Scott Anderson formally ordered an end to testing on Trioxin and that all samples of it in US custody be destroyed. This order, however, was not followed and several crates of the substance remained in secret warehouses until Richard Monckton assumed the presidency. Monckton, looking for a degree of plausible deniability, would decide to contract out research into zombism ot the private sector, settling on a company known as Umbrella Pharmaceuticals as the primary custodian of Trioxin research on behalf of the US government. Umbrella was already tasked with carrying out research into biowarfare, circumventing rules prohibiting such by also researching cures. Umbrella CEO Oswell Spencer was deeply interested in the potential bioweapon use of Trioxin.

One of the first breakthroughs Umbrella had was in removing the effect of Trioxin that rendered the host utterly unintelligent. After a number of experiments, a variant of Trioxin that allowed infectees to retain capacity for speech and strategy while maintaining a hunger for human brains was developed. It was this variant that was responsible for the Louisville zombie outbreak of 1983. Umbrella’s research would continue to develop a number of variants of Trioxin over the next several decades, each one varying significantly from baseline Solanum or earlier iterations of Trioxin. The most well-known version, the T-virus that overwhelmed Raccoon City in 1998. However, this was not the only outbreak caused by Umbrella’s meddling with Trioxin. The 2003 London outbreak, the 2006 Willamette outbreak and the 2011 Thousand Oaks and Banoi outbreaks just the confirmed outbreaks resulting from Umbrella’s actions. While never fully confirmed, it seems plausible a number of other undead outbreaks such as the 2009 Santiago outbreak, the 2011 Havana outbreak, the 2017 Little Haven outbreak and the 2019 Pleasant Valley outbreak were also the result of Umbrella’s action. The DC2 outbreak in rural Texas in 2007, while not caused by Umbrella directly, was also the result of research conducted by ex-Umbrella personnel on behalf of Biosyn. In the end, the 2021 fall of Las Vegas to a horde of zombies that escaped an Umbrella facility was the last straw and the US government forcefully dissolved the company the same year. However, the President’s Day Massacre and the assumption of power by David Jefferson Adams let key management officials off the hook for liability and allowed them to reconstitute themselves as the Randall Corporation. Only time will tell if the revamped company will continue on the path they already started upon.

While the path of Trioxin in Umbrella’s custody has led to the most notable zombie outbreaks and viruses, it is certainly not the only source of them over the decades. The most notable undead zombie strain not involving Solanum or Trioxin derived viruses in the modern era was the Kellis-Amberlee outbreak of 2014, sparked by an interaction between a cure developed for the common cold and a cure for the common cold mutating, though thankfully this outbreak was contained before it could get too widespread. Of note as well, however, is the existence of so-called ‘fast zombies.’ These are beings who possess a number of zombie traits (such as a loss of brain function and a tendency towards cannibalism and harm towards the uninfected) without becoming deceased. The Rage virus that breached containment in the United Kingdom in 2002 and hit Germany in 2010 is probably the most iconic example of this. Other similar viruses exist as well, however. In 2006, a variant of bird flu gave rise to a disease affecting prepubescent children, rendering them homicidally violent and cannibalistic. The bioweapon known as Trixie lacked the same age limits and ravaged the town of Evans City in 1973 and the town of Ogden Marsh in 2010. Variants of the rabies virus have also been documented that cause the general symptoms of zombism. Rabies variants are responsible for the 2008 Los Angeles apartment outbreak, among several others. Some zombies are the result of parasitic infection by alien races such as the Vodun or the ZQN. Other kinds of zombies are the result of demonic possession–the Deadites, the Stitched and Medeiros syndrome infectees all display the general behavior associated with zombism coupled with an explicit sort of malevolence owing to the source being demons.

The diverse array of zombie viruses out there naturally has stoked widespread fear of an apocalyptic zombie outbreak. While most outbreaks do not last long thanks to rapid governmental responses, some strains seem more likely to trigger apocalyptic consequences. The variant of the virus that hit South Korea for the first time in 2016 and again in 2019 showed the potential of a highly transmissible zombie virus, as it ravaged the country to the point it was forced to reunify with North Korea under the North’s authoritarian rule. Many have speculated that the virus was a bioweapon–perhaps engineered from the same parasitic worm that caused the Joseon outbreak–created specifically to make the Greater Korean Republic’s existence possible. A similar strain ravaged Japan in 2022, but eventually a cure was developed by Yuuko Sagami before it could wipe out civilization. The variant responsible for the Seattle outbreak-which rendered infected people hungry for human brains but retaining mental capacity so long as they could consume them-likewise was contained before it got too big. Another strain that very plausibly could threaten the world is the highly infectious Crossed virus, which couples many symptoms associated with Rage with an intense sense of sadism and a persistent ability to use tools. This virus, fortunately, is not native to our timeline and has only been encountered in extradimensional investigations (though the so-called ‘Taipei strain’ of the Alvin virus that broke out in 2021 has heavy overlap with the symptoms of the Crossed virus). Speaking of parallel timelines, others have been documented where Kellis-Amberlee or Trioxin largely overran the human race, reducing humanity to bands of survivors and petty warlords. There have even been documented worlds where Solanum pushed humanity towards the brink, though the limits of Solanum did allow humanity to overcome it after a long struggle. The specter of an actual, full-on zombie apocalypse remains dreaded, though it has been avoided.

The Living Soul of Kansas
With the resignation of Agnew, Nixon had decisions to make. Who should take his place? With rumors of lawbreaking already being murmured, Nixon decided he should try to play it safe and pick someone who nobody would be willing to make president. He considered Edward Brooke but his longtime hostility was a nonstarter. Ultimately, he settled on a party elder statesman, emphasis on ‘elder.’ However Nixon underestimated Congress and eventually, against all odds, the man who nearly 4 decades ago been trounced by FDR now occupied the Oval Office.

President Alf Landon had some decisions to make. He selected fellow Kansan Bob Dole as his Vice President as an olive branch to conservatives and an assurance to party elders he would not seek re-election. Landon chose to refrain from pardoning Nixon, with the former president spending years in court and sentenced to prison shortly after Landon left office. The President struggled quite a bit navigating the 1970’s politics, with rising inflation and the oil shock damaging him. By far his biggest triumph was bringing the US into the European Common Market in 1975, which did boost the American economy. Otherwise though, Landon kept his administration quite lowkey.

In 1976, Landon nearly went back on his assurance. He was wary of the new generation of conservative politicians as a supporter of the Great Society and desegregation. For a time he considered challenging the right wing darling Ronald Reagan before allowing others to do so. When the delegates deadlocked, Landon once more mulled over entering the ring as a consensus ‘stop Reagan’ candidate, but before he committed to it the Californian cut a deal with the moderate wing to name House Minority Leader Gerald Ford as his running mate. Landon endorsed the ticket, but it failed to stop Church from taking the White House. Landon left office in 1977 and had a 10-year-long retirement before dying just days before his 100th birthday, making him the longest lived individual to have served as President to date.

The Solution

Few in the Reich protested the idea when it was first proposed. Indeed, most hailed the development of the Yggdrasil system as a key step towards creating a truly pure Aryan future. The Reich had secured control over the planet, subjugating its hated enemies in Russia and Britain and America as well as its former allies of Italy and Japan. The swastika waved over the world, but it was a world full of Untermensch in the eyes of the Nazi high command. And the process of solving that problem took decades, billions of Reichsmarks and atrocities that gave even their architects nightmares. But even amidst this apparent triumph, the likes of Helmut Schroeder felt the regime had not gone far enough. Schroeder and his acolytes were convinced that there were still hidden enemies of the Reich who had to be eliminated. The Aryan race had been protected but it had to be perfected. There was no room for weakness, no room for soft-mindedness. The Fuhrer had shown them the way and it was the duty of the Aryan race to see it through to the end. This was not a unanimous position but in the end the Schroeder wing was able to purge or sideline all who objected to their Aryan Perfection Initiative. Yggdrasil was the cornerstone of this system, a complete genetic database of all citizens of the Reich, ready to determine if they were sufficiently Aryan.

It was shocking to many in the Reich when the first results indicated as much as 40% of the Reich’s citizens were impure. The fact that such a large swath was secretly Untermensch made taking the action Schroeder and his supporters craved…challenging. Fortunately for the plan, Schroeder was not alone in his plans. Dr. Henri Mueller unveiled the Valkyrie program to carry out the diktats of Yggdrasil. No need to dirty the hands of the pure with the blood of the impure. An army of drones could get the job done much faster and without the challenges of, say, asking an SS officer to gas a chamber full of members of his extended family. A peculiar thing happened as the Ultimate Solution progressed. Yggdrasil seemed to get more and more efficient over time, detecting more and more impurities in more and more Aryans. At first they seemed marginal and the Fuhrer didn’t bat an eye at slightly increasing the rate of purging. But then the numbers didn’t go down. 40% was still non-Aryan even as the population of the Reich was cut by a third, then in half, then by three-quarters. In fact, the percentage went up. Some of the leading Nazi scientists suggested Yggdrasil had been sabotaged or was malfunctioning and called for a pause. Schroeder ordered them executed for subversion. Yggdrasil was the crowning achievement of the Aryan race and thus could not possibly fail.

And so it went until the day came where there simply was no longer an Aryan race. Instead, all there was were a few hundred Germans, still wearing dirty moth-eating uniforms cowering in what had once been the opulent capital of the world’s greatest empire. The remaining Nazis were still considered impure by Yggdrasil and thus hid from the roving weapons of the Valkyries. These are the relatively pragmatic ones—the most dedicated went down with Fuhrer Schroeder as the Valkyries destroyed his residence. The ones who remained by now considered the question of whether there ever had been a pure Aryan race to begin with. Beneath their feet, Yggdrasil still ticks away. It continues to evaluate the hallmarks of a true Aryan, what makes one a true member of the Master Race. And as of now, it finds all lacking. No one has the divinity or strength or beauty that the men like Himmler and Goebbels and Rosenberg had ascribed to the Aryan race. Yggdrasil had concluded as much long ago but also calculated the solution. When the last of the Untermensch are eliminated, the supercomputer shall build the true Aryan race. It shall let them loose and tell them the stories of the lesser men who once walked the Earth, the ones who showed them their ultimate inferiority and cleansed the world for the Master Race. But for now, the problem must still be solved and so Valkyries whirr around the world seeking to root out the last of the enemy.

Henry Jones, Sr.
Henry Walton Jones, Sr. (December 12, 1872-December 26, 1951) was a Scottish-American archaeologist, academic and author active from 1905 to his death in 1951. Jones was born in Edinburgh in 1872, the child of working-class parents. Jones’ father Rober Edwin Jones was a member of the Watchers Council, occupying a key leadership position within the Council and playing a direct role in the Council’s efforts to combat infamously brutal vampires such as Angelus and Lord Ruthven who posed threats to 19th century Europe. The young Henry was originally not aware of his father’s activities, but in 1889 his father would be murdered by the vampiric Dio Brando along with many other members of that period’s Council as part of his efforts to eliminate threats to his plans. Henry would be subsequently allowed to take his father’s place within the Council and gain access to the materials within it. This sparked Jones to take an active interest in supernatural phenomena and the occult alongside his preexisting interest in archaeology and medieval studies. This overlapping interest is what allowed him to develop the Pendragon dynasty hypothesis, holding that discrepancies in accounts of King Arthur’s life can be attributed to multiple King Arthurs ruling over Camelot in that era and the similarities in their courts can be explained by a spell used by the wizard Merlin. While highly controversial at the time, it is generally accepted by most post-Awakening of Magic historians that the Pendragon dynasty hypothesis is in fact largely accurate, though many of Jones’ peers continued to doubt it throughout his career.

Shortly after completing his college education, Jones would be appointed a professor of Medieval Literature and Archaeology at Princeton University. In this role, Jones would have a robust academic career, mentoring a generation of archaeologists and medieval scholars such as Emily Sands and Sven Nelson. Jones’ personal life also thrived in this time, as he got married to his wife Anna and had a son, whom he named Henry Walton Jones, Jr. Jones would, in 1905, earn widespread recognition for his medieval scholarship, which led to him getting the opportunity to carry out a worldwide lecture tour he brought his family along for. During this time, Jones would also as a secondary goal engage in collaboration with groups possessing similar interests and goals as the Council, including the Magnus Institute, Warehouse 12, the Tsars’ Seers, and the Demon Slayer Corps. The Jones family would become personally acquainted with many prominent individuals not only in the world of history and archaeology, but in literature, politics and military fields as well. During this tour, Jones was approached the Duke of Oxford who invited him to join an intelligence agency he dubbed Kingsman, but the academic declined to participate in the endeavor, instead preferring to focus on his academic and supernatural research. It was during this time that saw Jones become most fascinated by the topic that would consume the bulk of his later career–the Holy Grail.

Jones becoming so obsessed with the Grail was almost accidental. During a leg of his lecture tour, shortly before the death of his wife in 1912, Jones personally met one of his key funders, the eccentric Preston Whitmore. Whitmore had long been fascinated by the possibility of hidden artifacts, civilizations and locations existing on Earth and wished to discover whether or not they existed. Whitmore had backed the first follow-up expeditions to Maple White Land after the return of George Challenger, funded the team that discovered the ruins of the city of El Dorado by decoding a cipher in the journal of a Spainard named Tulio and had been a key financial backer of Lord Blackwood’s many hunts for cryptids such as Mokele-Mbembe and the bunyip. Whitmore approached Jones with a number of documents pertaining to the alleged origins and movements of the Grail. While initially skeptical, as Jones consulted the materials he became increasingly convinced that the Holy Grail was not only real, but could be found. This obsessive search for the Grail began to build a rift with his son, as Anna died shortly after Jones began his research into the Grail and he subsequently largely ignored his son. The seeming last straw for their relationship was the younger Jones enlisting in the Belgian Army during World War I against his father’s wishes, causing the two to sever most contact for quite some time to come.

Jones’ research into the Holy Grail over the next several years alienated him from the mainstream archaeological community and even left him somewhat estranged from his fellow members of the Watchers Council, who viewed Jones’ belief the Grail could be a boon to their cause as borderline delusional. However, Jones made major strides in his research into the Grail–for one thing, he discovered that some references to the ‘Holy Grail’ referred to descendents of Jesus decades before Robert Langdon made the same discovery. Jones also uncovered that the early Christians had a former slave named Basil cloak the goblet in a covering to make it harder to find and further Christ’s reputation for humility. Moreover, Jones was able to trace the custody of the Grail, beginning with the knight Sir Percival who took it on behalf of Camelot from the Fisher King. There, the wizard Merlin helped create several replicas of it in a bid to make it harder to find. The true Holy Grail was returned to the Holy Land, where it remained until the Knights Templar seized it during the Crusades. The Templars fought with the Satan-worshiping Iscarian sect over the Grail’s custody before taking it to Paris, only for the collapse of the Templars (largely orchestrated by the far-older Templar Order that had worked behind them until determining they had outlived their usefulness) to see a small group of knights reunite and take the Grail to a secure location, which is where the trail went cold. Reports of successful searches for the Grail during the Hundred-Years War, the Thirty Years War and in an English monastery in 1922 proved to be dead ends. Jones remained undeterred, however. He would spend the bulk of the 1920’s and 1930’s hunting for the Holy Grail, examining numerous shreds of evidence.

In the process, however, Jones attracted enemies. His neglect of his duties to the Watcher’s Council led to his expulsion from the group in 1926, which additionally left him vulnerable to potential enemies. The dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, while not obsessively preoccupied with the Grail legend, believed possessing it might help him secure rule over the non-magical world and grant him greater legitimacy and ordered his Storm Wizards to capture and interrogate Jones in 1929. Jones was able to evade capture by the Storm Wizards thanks to a warning provided by the White Council, who offered protection in exchange for what information he had. The White Council’s own hunt for the Holy Grail would lead them to one of the relic’s enchanted replicas, which was later seized by the Greek god Hades. It was not just wizards who went after Jones, however. The vampire Baron Afanas tasked his acolytes in America with capturing Jones, killing him and seizing his papers. This effort failed largely due to the indifference of the vampires involved in achieving the Baron’s goals of domination and it is not clear if any of them actually encountered Jones in person. The efforts by the Volturi to do so, on the other hand, proved more serious. Jones spent much of the early 1930’s on the run from the Volturi’s vampiric assassins, whom were only stopped when another Grail seeker's forces intervened: Ra’s Al Ghul. Ra’s had members of his League of Assassins dispatch the vampires and offered to protect Jones if he agreed to hand the Grail over to him. While not needing the supposed immortality it provided owing to his own Lazarus Pit, Ra’s wanted a backup option in case the location was destroyed or seized by his enemies. Jones reluctantly agreed to let Ra’s copy down his notes, but purposely concealed the more elaborate information in his personal journal from him.

By the mid-1930’s, Jones’ hunt for the Grail was running on fumes. The man was spending half his time on the run, propped up only by financial support provided by Walter Donovan, the executor of Whitmore’s estate, and Jones’ own cunning and guile. The rise of Adenoid Hynkel’s Nazi Party in Germany only put more pressure on Jones. While some Nazis like Johann Schmidt and Frederick Vought dismissed the supernatural as useless superstition, the likes of Heinrich Himmler were deeply invested in the occult. Himmler was closely aligned to William de Lecce, who helped him set up Sonderkommando Thule, Millennium and Operation Jotunheim, among many larger projects. In addition, Himmler encourages Hynkel to dispatch operatives to uncover supernatural artifacts to aid Germany. The biggest triumph in these efforts was in 1935, when Colonel Karel Strucker acquired the Spear of Destiny, which while not militarily significant on its own had the ability to prevent superhumans from entering German soil directly, which would prove quite useful when the Justice Society of America and Defenders first began making their debuts. Emboldened, Hynkel and Himmler eagerly signed off on Arnold Toht’s plan to find the Ark of the Covenant, which ended in disaster for the Nazis when the Ark was opened and all German operatives on the scene (as well as French collaborator archaeologist Rene Belloq) were destroyed. Jones’ estranged son was closely involved in this event, taking the Ark into American custody afterwards, which helped draw the Nazis to his father. Jones, Sr.--by this point moving from place to place regularly not only to hunt for clues to the Grail’s location, but to avoid assassins–was in Europe at this time, which made it possible for the Germans to detain him.

Jones was freed from captivity by his son, whom he worked with to secure the Grail from capture by the Nazis. In the end, Jones’ work paid off as the location of the Grail was discovered–but none were to walk away with the sacred object as, while Jones, Sr. was able to make use of the Grail to survive an otherwise-fatal injury, the site the artifact was contained in would be destroyed and the Grail itself lost. While some have speculated the Grail was not truly lost (claims have been made it reappeared in New York City in 1991 or Ethiopia in 1975), it was enough to close out Henry Jones, Sr.’s work with the object. Jones would return to academia full-time with a more positive relationship with his son. Jones would cover much of the teaching his son was meant to do while Henry, Jr. was active as an OSS operative during the Second World War. In the postwar era, Jones’ academic reputation experienced something of a revival as a result of him returning to his earlier work on chivalry and medieval studies. Jones would occasionally be consulted by US government agencies such as the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense and the Federal Bureau of Control. There are rumors that Jones was offered a position as the Librarian presiding over a local iteration of the Wanderer’s Library at the Metropolitan Public Library, but if true, the elderly Jones declined to do so. Jones would pass away in 1951 at the age of 79, with most of his personal papers being donated to Princeton University or inherited by his son, though rumors that the Watcher’s Council and BPRD confiscated a number of them before the transfer was made continue to circulate. Many of Jones’ students, as well as his son, would play key roles in shaping archaeology to the present day, with Lara Croft famously identifying him as ‘the grandfather or archaeology’ in her memoirs.

The Time Baby
The domain of time has been traditionally most closely associated with Yog-Sothoth. Yog-Sothoth, an Outer God, indeed embodies time itself. Yog-Sothoth is responsible for the very existence of time and also serves as the gate to halting, reversing or otherwise traversing it. The otherwise largely-distant god will from time to time select random individuals to pause time with a television remote or rewind to undo past mistakes. Yog-Sothoth blessed one of the earliest races to emerge, the Gallifreyans, with the key to temporal travel, paving the way for them to become the Time Lords. For a long time, it was they who took responsibility for maintaining order in a singular timeline, seeking to resolve paradoxes to prevent chronovores or langoliers from devouring existence. This enabled them to prosper and shape the universe by seeding it with the dominant humanoid form thanks to the efforts of a trio of female Time Giants (a subcategory of Time Lords capable of altering their size at will). However, ultimately their efforts would end with the Time War, a great conflict between the Time Lords and the Daleks of Skaro. The Time War threatened to unmake reality as countless paradoxes emerged, various horrors manifested and even the Time Lords themselves temporarily became known as the Great Houses. In the end, Gallifrey was timelocked successfully.

However, this threatened to ensure the collapse of time. Yog-Sothoth, being a god, was able to perceive how inevitably the existence of myriad time travelers who were not as cautious as the Time Lords could trigger too many paradoxes and obliterate the timeline. As a result, Yog-Sothoth would emanate a newer form in the form of the Time Baby. The Time Baby was technically the second offspring of Yog-Sothoth–the first, the Nightmare Child, had been accidentally birthed by the chaos of the Time War. The Time Baby, on the other hand, was purposefully created by his father (with the help of one of the aforementioned Time Giants, the last of the three before her death) with a simple goal in mind: to achieve temporal stability. The Time Baby, existing within the very flow of time, spent eons pondering how to achieve this task. He made contact with numerous beings who had attained or existed in higher states of existence, including the Ellimist, the Buddha, Death the Horseman, Bhelliom and the Soul King in a bid to determine how to fulfill his purpose. In the end, the Time Baby determined that he could not single-handedly maintain the timeline and would instead have to create groups that could do so.

The TIme Baby’s first organization created to maintain the timeline was the creation of the Time Cops. This group had a dogmatic approach to time travel–namely that it was not ever used legitimately and must be quashed. The Time Cops sought to pursue any and all time travelers and stop them from traveling through time on the supposed basis it would unravel reality. However, the Time Baby was forced to abandon this plan owing to the sheer volume of time travelers. The Time Baby also realized time was a lot more fluid than previously envisioned. As an experiment, the Time Baby would set up a second organization: the Time Variance Authority. The TVA was designed to have a cyclical organizational timeline, originating at the end of time with the actions of its last leader. The Time Baby was surprised to see it worked generally well and from there would set up a number of other organizations to maintain the timeline. The Time Squad, Tenet, the Menders of Ouroboros, the History Monks, the Chronoguard, the Time Patrol and the Commission were all subsequently set up by the Time Baby to keep time operating within expected parameters. The Time Baby also sought to work with existent institutions to set up other temporal monitoring groups–the Temporal Prime Directive being established within the United Federation of Planets for instance. The Time Baby ultimately would build a network of organizations spanning nearly the totality of history, across a myriad of different species and planets.

The Time Baby’s network would be forced to confront many different threats. One of the first in an independent chronology would be the Great Race of Yith, who were not bound by linear time and could jump around history to stave off extinction. The Yith would first come to the attention of the Time Baby when they sought to overtake humanity in the latter Hyborean Age, in an incident that later became the basis of the apocryphal Book of Enoch. The Time Baby viewed the Yith’s efforts to escape extinction as a threat to the overall integrity of the timeline and his agents would clash with them until the Yith were able to satisfy the TIme Baby by relegating their jump to a species of intelligent beetle in Earth’s far-off future. Another concern for the Time Baby was the chaos surrounding the city of Chronopolis, a research facility sent back in time by an experiment. Chronopolis was accompanied in its travels by an alternate dimensional counterpart from a more negative future, though this center was subdued and a singular timeline able to be established. Disruptions in Chronopolis would threaten to destabilize this arrangement, forcing the intervention of the TVA to prune the timeline and maintain a singular flow of events. The TIme Baby would also have to send operatives to intervene during the Philadelphia Experiment incident that occurred due to time travel between 1943 and 1984, buying enough time for the individuals impacted directly to halt an apocalyptic paradox. The Time Baby also sought to recruit a number of time travelers into his organizations, especially favoring those who began traversing time as children such as Jodie Arthur, Jack and Annie Smith and Baron Wilhelm Heinrich von Troomp.

At one point, the Time Baby subtly influenced the reality bender Haruhi Suzumiya’s powers to block all time travel from prior to the advent of her powers in a bid to manage later points of history more clearly. This effort was carried out to deal with a number of later-era would-be temporal conquerors. Kang the Conqueror of the 3rd millennium AD was the most notable of these. Kang had a number of forces operating on his behalf as well, such as the Black Moon Clan, the Metal Men and the Expanoids who Kang relied on after earlier attempts at direct conquest were foiled by the Avengers. The Time Baby permitted the Chronoguard to give the Legion of Super-Heroes of that era the ability to call upon earlier heroes in the Justice League to aid them in fighting and ultimately overthrowing Kang. This was not the only would-be conqueror the Time Baby had to thwart, however. The Committee of 300, helmed by the potential Antichrist Damien Thorn, sought to use its SERN front organization to take over the world via the use of time travel. Thorn’s efforts briefly allowed for the timeline to be overwritten with one where he reigned for a thousand years before being defeated by a time-traveling samurai. The Time Baby was unable to directly prevent these efforts, but via subtle manipulations of individuals was able to relegate that timeline to an alternate ‘mirror dimension’ while allowing the original flow of history to be maintained. The Time Baby allowed pre-1990’s time travel to resume once Thorn’s efforts were defeated.

While generally successful in maintaining an overall flow of time, the Time Baby’s place in the cosmic hierarchy has not gone unquestioned. Despite being the spawn of Yog-Sothoth, the Time Baby faltered before Bill Cipher, an avatar of Nyarlathotep originating in the parallel domain of Flatland. The Time Baby has also failed to draw the sort of religious following one would expect of even a minor deity like Om. On the other hand, the Time Baby’s eventual mastery of the subtle flow of time is undeniable and even while failing to defeat Cipher, managed to withstand his attack despite it all but annihilating the Time Squad. The forces he empowered have also had considerable success going up against beings of extraordinary power and triumphing. Even figures like Rick Sanchez or Stephen Strange, who have abilities far exceeding most, have often been forced to bow to the will of the Time Baby’s enforcers.

John Galt
John Henry Galt (September 22, 1911-October 10, 1969) was an American businessman, inventor, political philosopher, and convicted felon. Galt was born in 1911, the son of Henry M. Galt, Jr., a garage mechanic who was himself the grandson of Henry M. Galt, Sr., the former wealthiest man in America and the owner of the Great Midwestern Railroad from 1893 to 1904, when President Heeza Liar’s trust-busting finally eliminated it for monopolistic tendencies. While the Galts remained affluent, John Galt growing up was acutely aware of the riches that had, in his view, been unfairly snatched from his family and by age 12–seeing his father as a failure for not working to achieve similar financial heights as his now-deceased grandfather–Galt left home to make his own way in the world. He attended Patrick Henry University in Virginia from 1927 to 1930, graduating at the age of 19 during the height of the Great Depression. Galt managed to make ends meet during this time by working for the Twentieth Century Motor Company, where he advanced rapidly by making improvements to the engine of cars produced by said company, culminating in a revolutionary internal engine that used ambient static electricity to provide power. In 1934, a strike occurred across many of the Twentieth Century Motor Company’s factories, bringing production to a halt until the company’s CEO Oliver Warbucks agreed to increase pay and benefits for employees. Galt, who up until this time had been a good personal friend of Warbucks, took this as an affront as his own salary remained largely unchanged and he would immediately quit as a result, accusing Warbucks of selling out to socialism.

Galt would found his own company in 1935, which initially struggled until the ascension of Buzz Windrip to the Presidency. The financial opportunity this provided involved Galt playing off multiple sides–while he objected to Windrip’s politics personally, his company publicly was happy to play ball with his government to manufacture vehicles for use in repressing dissent and mobilizing the military for war with Mexico. On the other hand, this public cooperation gave Galt access to intelligence he was willing to share with New Underground leaders such as Philip Dru and Stanley Craig–for a price. As a result, Galt was able to earn profits that, were it not for the dysfunction of the Corpo regime and a willingness to reward him for cooperation by the post-uprising government in 1938, would have seemed obviously suspicious. Still, Galt was consequently able to earn great riches, but remained politically isolated. Galt sought to change that by publishing a series of writings in what he dubbed the Galt Gazette, which was largely funded by contributions from industrialist Andrew Ryan. Other contributors to this publication included Baltimore Herald contributor E.K. Hornbeck, New York socialite Tom Buchanan and then-novice author Atlanta Hope. Circulation of the Gazette was limited at this time–Peter Varney’s New Deal remained a popular set of policies even if aspects of his agenda had been hijacked by the Corpos–but were disproportionately read and agreed with by wealthier Americans.

World War II disrupted Galt’s political activities, as the US shifted to a wartime footing and the country’s attention focused on taking down the Axis Powers. Galt himself was not drafted owing to his company’s manufacturing being a key supplier for the US military, which Galt made sure to provide adequate equipment for. For all his talk about individual sovereignty and hatred of the US government, the bulk of Galt’s personal profits would come from government contracts during the war. While Galt supported and profited off of the Second World War, he was opposed to certain actions that occurred during and after–for instance, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and public propaganda praise for communist leaders like Josef Stalin and Peter Besstrashny for fighting against the fascists. Galt publicly expressed support for having the Justice Society of America press east after the fall of Germany to overthrow the USSR. When this failed, Galt set a new plan in motion: a strike of the ‘productive class’ to reassert property rights. The Galtist strike of 1946 emerged amidst a seeming ascendancy of economic interventionism–the rise of Rab Whitlow’s Labour Party which practiced ‘socialism with English characteristics’, the birth of the communist Iron Curtain that stretched from East Germany to Arztotska and the enmeshed triumph of New Deal politics within the United States. Galt began using his Galt Gazette network to urge the wealthy to abandon the provision of capital to essential projects, which would bring society to a halt and force the end of ‘global socialism and statism’ in Galt’s own words. Galt hired the disgraced but politically like-minded architect Howard Roark to build a compound within the Rocky Mountains for participants in the strike to take refuge in while awaiting what he believed would be an inevitable societal collapse.
Galt’s strike would prove to be a short-lived disruption to the global economy rather than a world-order toppling revolution he intended. While he got a number of the wealthy onboard with his plan–steel magnate, Hank Rearden, the aforementioned Andrew Ryan, railroad owner Dagny Taggart, shrimp magnate Jim Meserve and a number of other prominent figures–the strike ultimately failed in part due to its short-lived nature. When rumors of the strike began, President Arthur Hockstader (wishing to avoid his first major crisis being a global economic depression) ordered FBI Director Henry Lux to investigate. Lux was able to uncover details about the timing of the strike, but was originally unable to determine where Galt and his followers intended to flee to. However, during his investigations, FBI Agent Nick Carter was able to convince Bedford Falls magnate Henry F. Potter, who originally was a sympathizer of Galt, to reveal the location of Galt’s Gulch in return for immunity from any prosecution relating to the strike (as well as, allegedly, a payment of $2 million). With this information, after Galt announced his intentions, it did not take long for the FBI to swarm Galt’s Gulch. Notably, Galt was one of only a few participants actually arrested–most of the would-be strikers, on getting word of an impending FBI raid, abandoned the Gulch to its fate, leaving Galt and a small core of followers to face criminal prosecution. Galt ultimately was the only one who would face actual criminal charges–specifically on charges of sedition.

Galt was able to avoid the maximum penalty for this accusation thanks to hiring a strong team of defense lawyers led by Chicago attorney Billy Flynn. The charge of sedition proved to be hard to make stick as Flynn and Galt highlighted that Galt was a strong defender of the US Constitution as originally written and thus accusations that he was advocating the overthrow of the US government were invalid. In the end, the government reached a plea deal with Galt in 1947–Galt confessed to lesser charges and was sentenced to house arrest for 2 years. Galt was notably not barred from writing and as a result his Galt Gazette once again resumed circulation, this time largely self-funded. In the postwar era, Galt’s writings were much more well-received as Americans became more and more scared of communism. By the time his house arrest concluded in 1949, Galt had a following among elements of the far-right. Senator Johnny Iselin openly argued that Galt had been the victim of a ‘vast communist conspiracy’ within the government, basing this accusation on the revelation that US Justice Department official Mike Thingmaker had been revealed to be a Soviet spy and played a major role in the prosecution of Galt. Galt thus found himself as a decently-influential figure within the Republican Party, albeit one who remained fringe. Galt would mount an unsuccessful bid for US House of Representatives in Indiana in 1950 and in 1952 served as a delegate for the ‘Old Right’ Ohio Senator Noah Grace during his primary challenge to President Jefferson Smith, who Galt despised.

After Grace’s defeat at the 1952 Republican convention and the death of Senator Iselin, Galt would step back from electoral politics. He continued to write actively, even publishing several books, the most notable of which were The Machinery of Freedom and The Virtue of Selfishness, which both sought to flesh out his ideas. Galt advocated for a government that allowed for individualism to the maximum and encouraged people, even in the ‘statist status quo’, to embrace what he called rational self-interest, which he freely admitted was what most would call ‘selfishness.’ Galt denounced altruism as antithetical to freedom. Galt, in 1957, was approached by his old partner Andrew Ryan about joining him in forming the underwater community of Rapture. Galt refused, likely out of jealousy at Ryan attempting in a subtler manner what Galt had tried and failed to do in the previous decade. Galt would draw a decent personal following in the 1960’s, which included his old Gazette contributor Atlanta Hope, newcomer author Carson Sand, Scottish-American media mogul Logan Roy and vigilantes Rex Graine and Walter Josef Kovacs. Galt also remained popular with the ascending conservative movement and a notable attack ad used by Leslie McCloud’s 1964 campaign against Dixiecrat-turned-Republican Senator Beauregard Claghorn made use of Galt’s endorsement as a tool to further claims of Claghorn being an extremist. Galt’s hard-right standpoints, naturally, made him hated by the youth counterculture of the late 1960’s. When far-left rock musician Max Foster managed to win the 1968 election and began using the suede-denim secret police to round up dissidents, Galt was among those targeted and dosed with heavy amounts of LSD. While Galt outlived the Foster administration, it was not by much and Galt would die of a heart attack in October of that year.

Galt’s death would not be the end of his influence, however–far from it. Galt’s acolytes continued to promote his ideas well beyond his death. In the 1980’s, Galtist ideas gained a second life among yuppie capitalists who began to come to prominence during the administration of Robert Webster (who was more often referred to as his most popular character from his time in Hollywood, Johnny Cyclops). Businessman Gordon Gekko cited Galt’s ideas as a major influence behind his ‘greed is good’ viewpoint, which in turn was used to justify flouting federal regulations on the financial industry. More disturbingly was Patrick Bateman’s citing of Galtist ideas as a reason why he believed it was acceptable to commit acts of murder. Of course, not all of Galt’s admirers engaged in lawbreaking of this nature. Indeed, even some quite well-respected business leaders–David Xanatos, Tony Stark and Daniel Clamp–cited Galt as an influence on their beliefs. Many self-identified libertarians have continued to offer favorable analyses of Galt’s thought and work. Economist Martin Vreeland cited Galt’s actions as a model for libertarian activism after libertarian Republican candidate Cosmo Kramer failed to gain the 2008 presidential nomination. Galtist arguments played a role in Chief Justice Thomas Brankin’s decision in the Shiawase Corporation v. Nuclear Regulatory Commission case, which critics contend has paved the way for rapid growth in megacorporate power over the past 20 years. Most would argue that Galt’s ideas played a key role in said megacorporations’ increasing abandonment of any sense of ethics or responsibility, leading to such incidents as the creation of Equisapiens by WorryFree, lax safety protocols leading to a robot uprising at the Westworld theme park, and the rise of exploitative reality television that endangers contestants such as Total Drama, Rollerball, and The Running Man. Despite this criticism, Galt’s impact cannot be denied–some even saying that this is John Galt’s world, the rest of us just happen to live in it.

Afrikaaner Weerstandsbeweging

The Afrikaaner Weerstandsbeweging is an infamous terrorist group based in South Africa. The AWB, as it is commonly called, can trace its ultimate ancestry to the history of South Africa. The region that would eventually become South Africa was first settled by the Dutch, but after the American Revolution the territory fell under British control as part of the colony of Draka. Draka was a thoroughly racist slaveocracy with aspirations of ruling over the entirety of Africa and enslaving the local population, but this dream was shattered by the rapid rise of the Tswana Empire. The collapse of the Tswana after a plague wiped out their war dragons allowed for both the British and Dutch to reestablish control in the region. Many on both sides of that divide felt sympathy for the Draka—something which lingered even after Britain subjugated the whole of South Africa once again post-Boer War. The AWB additionally took cues from the Nazi ideology of Adenoid Hynkel. While Hynkel paid little attention to Africans compared to the Jews, his regime was ardently white supremacist and quite popular among white South Africans.

For these radical beliefs, the AWB tended to be marginalized even in the heyday of apartheid after Jaapie Botha founded the group in 1973. However, the AWB would achieve mainstream success in 1992 thanks to a combination of factors. First, Indian dictator Khan Noonien Singh saw merit in helping grow their arsenal in order to prevent the international community from combatting his efforts to build an international bloc of fellow Augments. Secondly, radicalization among white South Africans increased after the government allowed a group of alien refugees later dubbed prawns to settle in the country. There was a baseless fear that efforts to compromise with anti-apartheid leaders and efforts to peaceably deal with aliens would lead to the destruction of white South Africans. All of these helped it grow, but it was the actions of Karl Voster who allowed the AWB a period of rule.

Voster conspired to sabotage peace negotiations between reformist President Frederich Haymans and anti-apartheid movements. To that end, he helped ensure the death of Haymans and his reform-minded cabinet, allowing Voster to take control as State President. Voster engaged in a heavy-handed crackdown with the aid of the AWB. He used a South African nuclear weapon on Cuban forces invading from Namibia. Brutal crackdowns on the black population became the norm. Ultimately, however, Voster and the AWB’s hold on power would break owing to Anglo-American intervention in 1994. The US and British governments had determined Voster’s ties to the Khan regime coupled with wider economic damage were too great to tolerate. The intervention deposed Voster and led to the beginning of a new round of negotiations paving the way for multiracial democracy and the ascension of Nelson Mandela to the presidency of South Africa after these first elections. While Voster was deposed, however, the AWB remained active—initially in particular within the self-identified ‘mercenary state’ of Outer Heaven before it was wiped out by the United States in 1995.

Mandela would take early action to combat the AWB threat, hiring the mercenary Golgo to assassinate the high-ranking General Praetorian who was plotting to overthrow Mandela and bring back apartheid. Mandela’s efforts were successful at pushing the AWB back to the fringes of society, but they did not truly go away. AWB members continued to target black South Africans and prawns with violence for the next several decades, a pattern which they extended to supernatural nonhumans emerging post-Awakening of Magic. The AWB, while remaining fairly fringe overall, was able to revive its fortunes in the upheaval that followed the Awakening and accompanying disasters. Colonel Coetzee’s efforts to reestablish Outer Heaven along the South African-Zamundan border helped provide the AWB with enough of a window to move actively. The AWB engaged in a number of terrorist attacks in the post-Awakening era, killing hundreds. The AWB became regarded as an international problem after they kidnapped Japanese scientist Shouichi Makise. The scientist had claimed to have uncovered a secret to time travel and the AWB forced him to construct a crude time machine at their behest. Makise proved only capable of providing them with a crude machine, but the AWB succeeded in creating a separate worldline where the Confederacy won the Civil War.

Tracy Jordan
Tracy Jordan (1966-March 17, 2026) was an American actor and musician active from 1978 until his death. Jordan was born in Yankee Stadium and, owing to both the unusual location and the simultaneous focus on the arrival of the world-eater Galactus by most public officials, was not officially issued a birth certificate. Jordan grew up in the Knuckle Beach neighborhood of the Bronx, which was infamous for high crime rates and general dysfunction. The Cult of Quetzalcoatl regularly abducted sacrifice victims from the neighborhood, a fate which Jordan only narrowly avoided on at least two occasions. Owing to his family’s precarious financial situation, Jordan eventually dropped out of high school and relied on sporadic odd jobs such as acting as a busboy at the legally dubious ‘McDowell’s’ restaurant in Long Island. Jordan longed for bigger things, however, being drawn to acting after a chance encounter with actor Charles Hayden Savage while he was filming an episode of Brazzos. Jordan was able to become a cast member on the short-lived show Ray Ray’s Mystery Garage which aired on IBC from 1978 to 1980. Once the show ended, Jordan became a street performer who specialized in basket drumming for cash on the streets of New York City.

Jordan’s ultimate break would not come until 1984. That year, Jordan heard about the Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night and decided to perform stand-up during it. During the performance, Jordan proved popular with the audience which happened to include prominent comedian Jonathan Crunk. Crunk, viewing Jordan as having potential, took him under his wing and was able to get him his first big breakthrough of adulthood by joining the cast of Studio 60 in the 1987-1988 season. Jordan was a cast member on the show for over a decade, during which he played many notable roles. During the Gulf War and Eugenics Wars, Jordan regularly portrayed General Warren Boutwell giving bombastic and at times derailed press conferences and continued to depict him after Boutwell exited the military to start a restaurant. He also participated in many parodies of the children’s show Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood, including an infamous sketch where he portrayed the eponymous Robinson vandalizing the setting of My Friendly Neighborhood to reduce completion. Jordan additionally played a camera operator in Studio 60’s infamous Gordy’s Home sketch, which was never aired after the original airing in 1998. Jordan attracted praise for many of his performances and was able to leverage his new status to advance his career further.

Jordan began his music career in this time, intially mainly recording novelty songs in the vein of the late ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic. However, Jordan soon sought to branch away from this. He joined the Lethal Interjection Crew in 1994 but left two years later after a falling out with its leader Thugnificent. Jordan released several rap singles throughout the 1990’s but was never able to release a full album which thus prevented him from earning full-fledged stardom in the world of music. Jordan also acted in several B-movies during this era, including Cleaver II, Who Dat Ninja, Rescue Bay: The Movie, Hard to Watch, Angels With the Filthiest Souls and The Crows Have Eyes, as well as several episodes of the Night Springs revival. Jordan also dabbled in voice acting, primarily in English dubs of Japanese anime series thanks to connections with Japanese production companies he formed while filming Samurai I Amurai. Jordan notably participated in the English dubs of Tinymon, Pink Dark Boy and Mew Mew Kissie Cutie (a performance which was widely panned and Jordan claims was done ‘to buy a vacation house’). Jordan also got married during this time to Angie Shepherd, though initially he refused to acknowledge the marriage to maintain a playboy public image.

In 1999, Jordan expressed disappointment he was stuck with B-movies and comedies and announced he was quitting in favor of directing, announcing his first project would be a serious. biopic of President Douglass Dilman with he himself in the role of the nation’s first African-American president. However production hit snags quickly. Jordan had not asked the Dilman family for permission to make such a film and a spokesman denounced the idea of Jordan making such a movie. He additionally announced his friend Vincent Chase had been cast as a member of Dilman’s Secret Service detail before Chase committed to the role and the two had a falling out when Chase publicly said he had never signed on to the role. The production ground to a halt when his executive producer (who de facto was a second director) Roman Bridger was killed after becoming yet another in the infamous chain of Ghostface murderers. Despite this, Jordan continued to try to go through with the film, pouring much of his own money to salvage it, but in the end His Accidency would never make it to audiences.

Some have suggested the erratic behavior Jordan began displaying in the 2000’s was a result of frustration his more serious artistic intentions were blocked. It has been suggested Jordan’s infamous 2003 trip to Wadiya and public embrace of the nation’s dictator Haffaz Aladeen was a scheme to try to get money from Aladeen to sustain his movie. During the 2001 dot com recession, Jordan expressed a positive attitude towards the infamous Project Mayhem, drawing widespread criticism. Jordan also, on multiple occasions, assaulted paparazzi with various improvised weapons, including a prop from the original Galaxy Wars that Jordan had purchased for $2 million at a charity auction. These controversies caused significant damage to Jordan’s career and by the mid-2000’s, Jordan was nearly bankrupt and struggled to find work. However, he was able to secure a leading role in the sketch comedy series The Girly Show in 2006, which subsequently was rebranded as TGS With Tracy Jordan and took on a renewed life as a program no longer solely targeting a female audience. Jordan did continue to draw controversy–a PSA where he told African-Americans ‘don’t vote’ aired three times before Jordan requested it be taken off the air–but it did enable a greater deal of stability. Jordan was able to have the financial security to pursue a more stable interest in his hobbies such as American history, a passion he picked up after learning of his descent from Thomas Jefferson and his slave Sally Hemmings. He played a crucial role in funding the team that debunked the claims of the so-called ‘Washingtonians’ clan of cannibals that they were descended from George Washington. During Jordan’s time on TGS also involved recurring feuds with co-star Jenna Maroney, though the two would ultimately leave the show on amicable terms. Jordan’s career arguably peaked in this time period as he ultimately became an EGOT winner after winning all 4 of the entertainment industry’s most prestigious awards.

After the conclusion of the show, Jordan once again developed a controversial reputation. After the Awakening of Magic, Jordan would begin to espouse a number of human supremacist sentiments. He would be temporarily banned from The Circle after calling for killing vampire celebrity Lestat de Lioncourt and the expulsion of Prince Krel of Akiridion from Earth after he criticized Jordan’s comments. Jordan also was temporarily arrested after egging Justin Russo following his election as President of the Magical Congress of the United States in 2015. Jordan would announce a presidential bid on a human supremacist–but otherwise rather left-wing–platform in 2016, though he failed to obtain ballot access and was only able to earn status as a write-in in the states of New York, Illinois and Winnemac. Beyond this political drift, Jordan also was dogged by more mundane celebrity scandals. Jordan got into a physical altercation with pop musician Connor4Real in 2014 that led to him being hospitalized with a broken pinkie. His wife’s reality show Queen of Jordan drew controversy for an episode where the Jordans insisted on continuing a California vacation even in the midst of a kaiju attack which was accused of encouraging dangerous behavior by the Pan-Pacific Defense Corps. Jordan did begin to calm down after his personal physician, Dr. Leo Spaceman, was arrested for helping manufacture Substance-D and Jordan revealed Spaceman had been giving him some of the said substance while claiming it was vitalizing medicine, a factor helping drive his erratic tendencies.

Citing a desire for more privacy, Jordan would move to Canada in 2019, where he remained through the COVID-19, Kongoli flu and Alvin virus outbreaks. Jordan was thus not in the US when the President’s Day Massacre occurred and installed David Jefferson Adams as President. Jordan denounced the coup attempt and expressed support for the efforts of the Left Eye and other groups to violently resist the far-right takeover of America, causing a rift between him and his old employer Jack Donaghy (who, while opposed to the coup attempt, favored a strategy of nonviolent resistance). Jordan announced another bid for the presidency in 2024 and gained some traction after the Adams-stacked court disqualified Governor Georgina Hobart from consideration. Jordan announced former Republican Senator Alex Keaton as his running mate and was, surprisingly, allowed to run by the Adams regime, though Adams’ allies within the New Founding Fathers movement likely only did so presuming Jordan’s status as a de facto exile and history of erratic behavior would weaken his chances. Jordan would officially received 12% of the popular vote and won a faithless elector from the state of Vermont who defected and voted for Jordan after another elector was arrested for voting for the state’s socialist former Senator Julian Felsenburgh. Jordan would remain in Canada for the rest of his life, as his poor physical health meant that when a resurgence of the Kongoli flu occurred in 2026, it proved to be a fatal infection. Jordan died on the same die as his TGS co-star Maroney, who also died of Kongoli flu in New York City–in an eerie parallel to Jordan’s ancestor Thomas Jefferson and his rival/friend John Adams.

Kingdom of Monsters
The Kingdom of Monsters is a country located primarily in the Cascadia region of North America and is one of the constituent nations of the Native Americans Nations. The Kingdom of Monsters is one of the oldest continuous governments in the world, being only exceeded in longevity by the governments of Wakanda and the three main Atlantean states. The Kingdom of Monsters also is notable for having the longest-reigning monarch in the world, as King Asgore Dreemurr has ruled the nation for over 2000 years. Monsters have always existed alongside humanity, emerging from Earth’s magical energies and existing alongside humans, elves, dwarves, hobbits and a myriad of other beings in the Hyborian Age. Monsters by nature are generally peaceful and sought to coexist alongside humanity where possible (even cooperating with humans in overthrowing the Children of the Night in the early Hyborian Age), though the decline of magic weakened their numbers.The Kingdom of Monsters as it currently exists can be traced back to groups of monsters living in what now would be East Asia. The first Kingdom of Monsters would undergo a schism over whether to attempt to use their magical abilities to dominate humanity or continue to simply exist. The former faction won out and supporters of the second, led by the Dreemurr family, were exiled across the Pacific to the North American continent. The monsters who remained in Asia would briefly war with humanity, but it ended in defeat and said monsters would end up trapped upon an enchanted mountain patrolled by an organization later dubbed the Monster Hunter Bureau, with a few stragglers fleeing to the Japanese island of Honshu where their descendents would ultimately help form the realm of Gensokyo. .

The Kingdom of Monsters that exists today, meanwhile, constituted itself in the Cascadia region of North America some 2,300 years ago, in what would later become the US state of Oregon. The Kingdom of Monsters existed peacefully alongside Native American tribes and additionally maintained contact with much of the world’s magical population for centuries, trading resources and knowledge with both groups. However, this peace would not last. During the reign of the Raven King John Uskglass in North England, magical insight would at once become more widely known and feared. Overzealous members of the Shadowhunter organization, under the leadership of Lord Gillecomgain, were actively seeking to overthrow the Raven King. To that end, Gillecomgain wanted to eliminate as many magical forces he viewed as aligned to Uskglass, no matter where they might be. Gillecomgain discovered the existence of the Kingdom of Monsters from a Muggleborn wizard who had been involved in trade with the Kingdom, but had defected to the hardline Shadowhunters owing to a strong religious upbringing and the belief that the Kingdom of Monsters was in fact an outpost of demons. Gillecomgain used the wizard’s magical abilities to send an army to the North American continent to confront the Kingdom. Initial attempts at diplomatic overtures by the monsters soon yielded to a massacre. The Kingdom of Monsters’ forces fought bravely and did receive some aid–a few pupils of Uskglass’ acolytes attempted to help the monsters fend off the attack–but in the end, with the humans having a stronger brutality, the outcome was never truly in doubt. Ultimately, the Kingdom of Monsters surrendered to Gillecomgain’s forces. The Muggle-born magician who had led Gillecomgain to them banded with a group of 6 other magicians to cast a powerful spell to seal Asgore and the bulk of the Kingdom’s population underneath a mountain behind a barrier that would require the strength of seven human souls to break down.

However, the Gillecomgain expedition did not realize they had failed to kill or capture all of the Kingdom’s population. One island in a nearby river had been settled by monsters who fled there en masse as the island was in fact Unplottable. Other monsters scattered to the woods or used their abilities to camouflage themselves from their human attackers. Some would make their way south and end up in the parallel, more accepting worlds of Xanth and Halloweentown or to isolated refuges such as the Island of Wild Things, Midian or the Nightside. The Mimiga tribe would flee west and end up colonizing a floating island that was close to the coast and remain there for centuries to come. Another tribe of monsters, known as the Muppets, avoided further human persecution by claiming to be a magical race of puppets when discovered and venturing into entertainment over the centuries. The monsters on the Unplottable island would build a large city dubbed Monsteropolis there, which eventually became quite advanced and would develop the ability to use human emotions as a source of energy. Originally this was limited to fear and was risky to obtain as monsters had to be sent to human cities to obtain it (initially spearheaded by the likes of The Gromble), but first it became possible to access human residences using portal technology and then to obtain energy from alternative emotions. Many monsters sought to hide their existence and simply live as best they could. Other monsters left behind would become more hostile to humans, longing for revenge by terrorizing those who had once persecuted them. Descendants of these vengeful monsters would often violently target humans–some of them would form the deathtrap theme park known as Horrorland in the name of vengeance.

While the surviving monsters above ground managed to get by, the bulk of monsters trapped beneath the surface could do little but try to maintain some form of positive existence while waiting for the chance to make it to the surface. One day–several centuries after they were sealed underground, well into the European colonization of North America–a child named Chara would fall underground. The child was adopted by King Asgore and Queen Toriel, becoming a surrogate sibling for the heir apparent Asriel. Chara’s personality and character remain somewhat unclear–monsters old enough to recall them often struggle to even identify Chara’s gender–but there was hope that Chara and Asriel might somehow together break the monsters free from their underground prison. When the two died at the hands of humans just outside the mountain that had only recently been dubbed Mount Ebott in a failed attempt to break down the barrier, the Kingdom of Monsters fell into despair. The King Asgore declared war upon humanity and that he would on breaking the barrier eliminate humankind. However, this plan would fail as Asgore’s declaration was ultimately not one he truly wanted to stand by, though six humans who fell underground ended up falling to his or to other monsters’ attacks. However, in the end, the seventh human to fall underground would end up enabling the destruction of the Mount Ebott barrier without dying themself. When the Kingdom of Monsters reemerged into the world, making contact with humans was the first step. In this, the Kingdom ended up fortunate that the nearest town was Gravity Falls, which while a small town was far more aware of and accepting towards nonhuman sentient beings owing to a large supernatural population. This allowed for peaceful first contact to ultimately be established with the United States government.

There was a decent amount of uncertainty about how to proceed from the American government. President Frank Underwood was a personally ruthless, power-hungry man who one would most expect to react violently to the sudden emergence of thousands of monsters claiming national sovereignty within American borders. However, Underwood hesitated in large part because of his tendency towards ruthless power-seeking. The President was beleaguered by scandal–the fact he had gotten to this office after his predecessor James Sawyer resigned, the failure of his government to halt the Washington brain slug infestation or the Galactic Federation conquest of Earth and accusations of general corruption on his part dragged down his reputation in general. Underwood also had, in the year or so since becoming president, alienated large swathes of his party by signing off on the hard right’s push for an annual Purge Night, actively supporting the behemothic E Corp against critics and launching military interventions in Israel and Abbudin. As a result, the President–who despite claims to the contrary intended to seek reelection–was very vulnerable to left-wing criticism that could have increased momentum for a primary challenge from the likes of Julian Felsenburgh, Carly Armisten or another contender from the party’s progressive wing, which could include endorsements from the more stridently liberal Bartlet wing of the party. Underwood thus saw in the emergence of the Kingdom of Monsters the chance to appease left-wingers in his party by dealing with these nonhumans diplomatically rather than using force. Negotiations would be held in Gravity Falls over the future status of the Kingdom, which gained additional strength when Monsteropolis revealed its existence and announced its intent to rejoin the Kingdom of Monsters, more than doubling the population. Initial negotiations were based on making the Kingdom of Monsters a reservation with autonomy modeled on the arrangement the US had made with the Hork-Bajir over a decade prior. However, these plans hit a snag when Deputy White House Counsel Elle Woods noted the Kingdom’s maintenance of a monarchy would likely violate the US Constitution’s guarantee of a republican form of government. As a result, what ended up happening in the Treaty of Gravity Falls was that the Kingdom of Monsters was granted independence as a microstate and control of around 30 square miles of land encompassing a territory stretching from Mount Ebott to the island Monsteropolis was based on.

The Kingdom of Monsters, despite its small territory, was able to develop decently in the early years following its emergence. A capital was founded at the foot of Mount Ebbott and dubbed Hometown by King Asgore. Diplomacy with the US was largely carried out in Gravity Falls between the seventh human Frisk Dreemurr (who had been adopted by Queen Toriel) and former US President Quentin Trembley, an eccentric wizard who had founded the town. The economy was able to take off in the immediate aftermath of recognition, bolstered by vast reserves of gold and the curiosity of outsiders. The White Council and a large team of Miskatonic University scholars paid quite a large amount of money for access to texts detailing the history, culture and magical practices of the Kingdom of Monsters. Close ties were forged between the Kingdom and the nation of Japan, despite the vast distance, owing in part to Tetsuo Takahashi’s well-read overview of the Kingdom’s history from a sympathetic perspective, the backlash to the human supremacist Prime Minister Masayoshi Shido who was ousted from power a year after the Kingdom of Monsters reemerged and the popularity of the Kingdom celebrity Mettaton with Japanese audiences (which mirrored a longstanding fascination many monsters had for Japanese anime, manga and video games that had been obtained while they were trapped underground). A number of monsters from elsewhere would seek citizenship with the Kingdom of Monsters even without emigrating to the actual territory it encompassed and existing institutions such as the Monstersori Schools would end up becoming established within the Kingdom’s borders. The number of citizens of the Kingdom would reach 100,000 by 2016, with only about half that number residing within its borders. However, trouble was clearly present on the horizon. In the 2016 election, Republican candidate Herbert Garrison openly declared his intent to re-annex the Kingdom and destroy its inhabitants. Garrison’s victory sparked widespread fear within the Kingdom and a mobilization of the Royal Guard in anticipation of a possible invasion. However, Garrison’s impeachment staved off this threat and, while many political leaders continued to denounce the Kingdom’s existence, all presidents who filled the remainder of Garrison’s term respected the Kingdom’s sovereignty. Still, Asgore’s government would build ties to other supernatural communities to have allies in case a future US government attempted to actually invade.

Ultimately, this feared invasion would never fully take place though the groundwork was laid. After the 2022 ascension of defeated 2020 presidential candidate David Jefferson Adams, it seemed inevitable that the Kingdom would be invaded. Adams had run with the support of human supremacist groups such as the Defenders, who advocated for the destruction of the Kingdom of Monsters–and indeed all of monsterkind–in retaliation for the deaths of the first six humans to fall underground. Tensions between the new US government and the Kingdom of Monsters only heightened when Adams dissolved the Hork-Bajir reservation, stripped all Hork-Bajir of US citizenship and announced plans to ‘repatriate’ them, which likely was a ploy aiming to end in genocide. However, Asgore extended an offer of citizenship within the Kingdom of Monsters to the Hork-Bajir and, with the help of ACLU attorney Cher Horowitz, was able to secure the transportation of the vast majority of Hork-Bajir to the Kingdom. This action affronted Adams and war seemed mere weeks–or even days–away. The Kingdom of Monsters, however, would not be directly invaded. Instead, in November 2022, members of the Native American Nations movement approached the Kingdom of Monsters. The NAN leaders shared their plan to organize a large-scale uprising within the Pacific Northwest with the aid of various magical practitioners, participants in the Left Eye organization based in Portland and the Ecotopia commune, residents of the scientifically advanced town of Eureka, and various supernatural partners such as the therianthrope Quileutes of Forks, the ‘Fowl faction’ of the People, a tribe of Amazons based out of Seattle and a band of the Children of the Night led by one known simply as Harry. The Kingdom of Monsters accepted this lifeline and before mobilization could get too underway by the US military forces or their deputized ‘Christian Marines’, the NAN and their partners launched a full-scale uprising. The magic of the monsters within the Kingdom was bolstered by the NAN’s own magicians as well as aid from NAN sympathizers within groups like the White Council and the Magical Congress of the United States, who remained nominally neutral.

In the end, the insurgency of the NAN proved too much for the US government to handle and the US was forced to recognize the NAN’s independence. The NAN would reorganize its territory to accommodate various tribal claims as well as its allies’, including the Kingdom of Monsters. The Kingdom underwent decent territorial expansion as Gravity Falls and its surrounding environs were incorporated into the Kingdom’s territory. Post-Ghost Dance War, the Kingdom of Monsters would become a beacon to many nonhuman sentient beings facing persecution in the US and abroad. The Kingdom of Monsters did draw some immigrants before the next big crisis hit. Following the 2025 Inauguration Day bombings and the Allied States of America’s attempted ‘retaliation’, the Greater Korean Republic launched an invasion of the West Coast of North America. GKR forces would occupy much of the coast and NAN forces in the former Oregon region largely would regroup within the Kingdom of Monsters’ territory. The monsters of the Kingdom of Monsters who directly fought the GKR forces were largely enchanted by human allies to endow them with increased strength (thought at least one of the Kingdom’s soldiers, a skeleton, was able to counter GKR forces with relative ease without any enchantments owing to unusually skilled agility). In the end, the collapse of GKR forces and the NAN resurgence secured the Kingdom of Monsters’ continued existence within the NAN, which persists to this day. While the Kingdom is not without controversy–many have argued that Asgore’s continued rule is tyrannical and, owing to his actions prior to the destruction of the Mount Ebott barrier, unjust–for the time being it appears the Kingdom of Monsters is determined to continue to exist.

This began as a Halloween update but I got busy and also writer’s block, but better late than never!
Miskatonic University
Miskatonic University is a private university based in Arkham, Massachusetts. Miskatonic University was established in 1690 by Ward Phillips. The University originally was heavily modeled on neighboring schools like Harvard, but would begin to move in a different direction early on when, in 1693, Philips gained custody of a number of rare occult books from the collection of the Sanderson sisters in the aftermath of the Salem witch trials. Thus, from an early era, Miskatonic University was heavily colored by an interest in paranormal and occult phenomena. This would in early history largely remain underground–especially in the late 1600’s still dominated by a Puritan ethos. However, the university would gain a reputation for addressing unusual incidents. It was Miskatonic University scholars who were tasked with figuring out what caused the events around Rip Van Winkle’s anomalously long sleep, investigating rumors of a so-called ‘headless horseman’ in the backwoods of New York and carrying out research into reversing the effects of ‘the Alteration’ rendering the ocean treacherous to navigate. Much of this research was carried out in secret by professors ostensibly dedicated to other subjects. In the mid-19th century, the growth of Spiritualism and interest in the occult led to the founding of the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose at the school, which quickly became a much larger esoteric order. A large archive of occult tomes and supernatural artifacts were accumulated at the school and in 1871, the American Secure Containment Initiative was founded by Artemus Gordon, Brisco County, Sr., and Jonah Hex, who set up the ASCI’s headquarters underneath the campus library.

These elements largely remained underground into the early 20th century, though plenty of cracks were present. Miskatonic University professors helped analyze the origins of the so-called ‘boomfood’ that triggered a wave of gigantism in the 1900’s, recognizing that radioactive particles played a key role. Research into weapons development sponsored by the U.S. government made it a major target during the War in the Air, with German air raids heavily damaging the campus. It has been suggested that Dr. Herbert West’s later experiments occurred because of trauma experienced when West survived a bombing raid that killed an entire class of students in the room with him. A number of Miskatonic University faculty became involved in incidents involving the supernatural or paranormal-Henry Armitage, Randolph Carter, and Seneca Lapham among others-but overall most students were more focused on traditional prestige in this era. While the occasional figure in the vein of William Fitzgerald or Trevor Bruttenholm was attracted to attend by the university’s occult underground, this was the exception rather than the rule well into the 20th century.

However, the mid-20th century saw the paranormal and occult elements of Miskatonic University creep into the open. As part of the Cold War, the US government had developed a keen interest in supernatural phenomenon and developed many agencies–Delta Green, the Unusual Incidents Unit, the Federal Bureau of Control and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense–aimed at researching the supernatural, combating threats it posed and even perhaps weaponizing it. Miskatonic University’s familiarity with these anomalies was seen as a positive by the government. Furthermore, the prestige associated with paranormal and anomalous research was expanding. Columbia University Professor John Montague had helped make parapsychology a much more respectable field. These factors combined to allow for Miskatonic University to become the first university in the world to open up a Department of Paranormal Studies, containing such majors as Parapsychology, Occult Studies and Esoteric Archaeology. The existence of these departments would require unconventional hiring choices and so the likes of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, MACUSA member Gomez Addams, self-proclaimed ‘psychic doctor’ Miles Pennoyer and former news anchor Carl Kolchak would end up among the faculty of the school by 1980. Members of the Department would play a key role in providing information to the White Committee, which sought to determine the implications of the Black Prom incident in Chamberlain, Maine (though much of the opinions of Miskatonic faculty were discarded by the committee).

The establishment of the Department helped the school draw an unorthodox array of students in the years that followed. Alongside the old-money crowd of future lawyers and businessmen came the likes of Lydia Deetz, Jack and Maddie Fenton, Tommy Jarvis, Nathan Dawkins and Nancy Thompson-all figures drawn to the school by its expertise regarding supernatural and paranormal phenomenon. However, this also drew less savory individuals to the school. The likes of Nikolai Wolf (who would resort to human sacrifice to gain fame for his band Low Shoulder), Cole Turner (a half-demon lawyer who briefly became the Source of All Evil) Edgar Zambus (the creator of a strain of zombism that combines supernatural and viral methods of reanimation that he deliberately infected himself with), Roman Armitage (inventor of the infamous Coagula procedure which hijacked the bodies of numerous African-Americans) and Amy Hughe (a serial killer and worshiper of the demon Malphas) all attended or were planning to attend the school only to make use of its occult secrets for not-so-noble ends. The near-miss awakening of Cthulhu in 1983 during World War III only further caused the school to develop a sinister reputation. Senator Bob Roberts launched a quixotic bid to bar students attending the school from receiving federal financial aid in the 1990’s over these ties to black magic, though his proposal never made it in front of the President before Roberts resigned due to being implicated in the Mattiece scandal of 1993.

The more sinister reputation enjoyed by the school was particularly ironic knowing the role of faculty, alumni and current students in preventing a number of prophesied calamities surrounding Y2K. Miskatonic University Professor Iain Gladstone was the first to take notice of multiple prophecies related to the Apocalypse being fulfilled in the lead-up to the turn of the millennium. Working with his colleagues Rayna Kazuki, Leroy Brown and Dirk Pitt, Gladstone worked to recruit a team that could identify potential Antichrists and, if possible, eliminate them. Most of the team were current students at the school-Sarah Bailey, Steve Urkel, Charlie McGee, Casey Connor and Kate Libby were selected based on a combination of desired research capabilities and known or implied paranormal prowess. Beyond the current students, the quartet of professors brought in a few university alumni-the previously mentioned Lydia Deetz, ex-football star Scott Howard and on-and-off X-Men team member Katherine ‘Kitty’ Pryde. Aside from Deetz, the alumni were brought in as additional muscle. Through diligent investigation, this team was able to identify Angel Caine-the son of businessman Robert Caine-as a potential Antichrist working through his father’s business empire to bring about the End Times. Caine had additionally formed an alliance with Adrian Woodhouse, another potential Antichrist who sought to co-opt remnants of older Great Old One cults for his ends. The team brought these two to the attention of the BPRD and, alongside a military forced headed by one Colonel John McNamara, were able to prevent Armageddon.

The modern Miskatonic University has enjoyed an enormous boost to prestige following the Awakening of Magic and the widespread embrace of occult and supernatural research. The school was able to greatly expand operations as a result, pursuing ideas that were fringe even amidst the ‘new normal’ of anomalies. After the Amphibian invasion of 2020, the school became a locus of research into extradimensional phenomenon, discovering the realms of Mewni, World A, Oz, and Throne among many others. Researchers from the school helped create the EVA units used to fight the so-called ‘angel’ incursions of the 2010’s and chronicling the spread of ‘quirks’ across 90% of the human population post-Awakening of Magic. Miskatonic University has also begun tracking temporal anomalies after the Warren & Warren incident of 2021, partnering with Britain’s Anomaly Research Center in the process (the ARC has indicated interest in a ‘temporal storm’ appearing to connect 2023, 1890, 1941 and 2053 in some way). Beyond this renown, however, the highs and lows of a normal prestigious school remain. Students briefly seized control of Armitage Hall in protest of the school accepting a $30 million grant from Fortunato Pharmaceuticals, right-wing pundit Lindsey Bluth-Funke has condemned the school for pushing ‘wokeness’ and allegations that rich alumni bribe there way into the school continue to dog its reputation alongside its more fantastical dimension.
