Also, have you given thought to a review of L. Neil Smith's Lando trilogy? That's some bonkers stuff from the crazy days of the proto-EU.

I hope you do. They're an exceptionally odd corner of Star Wars fiction. (I suspect they might have been written as original stories and then Smith just renamed the protagonist Lando.)

Haunting history in a good way
I've always avoided the Han Solo trilogy for a similar reason to the one you noted: a dislike of 'just for the sake of it' back-stories. Maybe I'll have to read it after all... whilst I continue to avoid watching Solo.
