America becomes the undisputed military hegemon after the invention of rap music, replacing bards and other text-based duellists with the rapid-fire audio bombardment of battle rap. Unfortunately for Washington's designs, other nations soon pick up the process and a vicious arms race spreads across the world, leading to the apocalyptic Word War Three.

Eh, if it's rapid fire audio-bombardment that's the key then Britain's artillery duo of W.S.Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan would have been duelling with M. Offenbach decades before then.

And of course they'd all have been catching up with the Italians after their period of dominance under Rossini.

(Seriously just look up A un dottor della mia sorte and try and tell me that this isn't as fast as anything in the modern rap context).

Oh and obviously the current fashion is the use of AI to create quantity over quality in the hopes of overwhelming the opponent.
 
In fiction, trilogies are quickly overtaken by multi-book series, with John Schettler's Kirov series (currently at 68 books o_O ) leading the charge.

In poetry, Greece takes an early lead with Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Italy puts up a strong challenge with Dante's Divine Comedy, before India trumps all-comers with the Mahābhārata. In a cross-over with music, a online choral version of this and the Ramayana, involving 153 choirs and over 41,000 singers, sees India become the new superpower.

Police have seized four smuggled stanzas, an enjambment, and a converted blank-verse firing pistol. They have asked people on social media to refrain from commenting while they continue their inquiries.

George RR Martin is entering the fourth year of his sentence in an Alaskan gulag for failing to follow up on what looked - at the turn of the century - to be the dawn of a new American hegemony.
Congress is debating whether his continued refusal to furnish more in his series is actually due to writer's block or whether hostile actors have convinced him to drag his feet.

Firstly, sad I missed this in real time because of hectic work schedule, and literally the most important elections since 1994TM which they all got called after 1994 but this time it actually is (also said 5, 10, 15, and 20 years ago).
