On Trial. Day 2

America becomes the undisputed military hegemon after the invention of rap music, replacing bards and other text-based duellists with the rapid-fire audio bombardment of battle rap. Unfortunately for Washington's designs, other nations soon pick up the process and a vicious arms race spreads across the world, leading to the apocalyptic Word War Three.

Eh, if it's rapid fire audio-bombardment that's the key then Britain's artillery duo of W.S.Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan would have been duelling with M. Offenbach decades before then.

And of course they'd all have been catching up with the Italians after their period of dominance under Rossini.

(Seriously just look up A un dottor della mia sorte and try and tell me that this isn't as fast as anything in the modern rap context).

Oh and obviously the current fashion is the use of AI to create quantity over quality in the hopes of overwhelming the opponent.

In fiction, trilogies are quickly overtaken by multi-book series, with John Schettler's Kirov series (currently at 68 books o_O ) leading the charge.

In classical music, governments sponsor choral works involving hundreds of singers. Italy becomes the first country to mandate that every school must have a choir, quickly followed by other nations; China's decision to have all children join a choir from the age of three is criticised by other countries, whilst they secretly admire the move.

In poetry, Greece takes an early lead with Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Italy puts up a strong challenge with Dante's Divine Comedy, before India trumps all-comers with the Mahābhārata. In a cross-over with music, a online choral version of this and the Ramayana, involving 153 choirs and over 41,000 singers, sees India become the new superpower.

After the recent ban on people carrying limericks in public, there are an increasing number of reports of street gangs equipping themselves with haiku. Police warn that there is verse to come.

Police have seized four smuggled stanzas, an enjambment, and a converted blank-verse firing pistol. They have asked people on social media to refrain from commenting while they continue their inquiries.

In truth I know what you are thinking punk
Did I quote twelve or fourteen lines of prose
In all thats true and fair, my rhyming stunk
And in this noise and chaos, no-one knows

Myself, confused by chase, cannot recall
How far into my verse I had declaimed
But words are weapons and so I must call
My polite challenge to you thusly framed

I use the style of Shakespears great writing
And ape a magnum force of words just so
Though fewer lines are quite inviting
This is the most powerful that I know

So finally, I make enquiry true
Do you feel fortunate young punk? Do you?

George RR Martin is entering the fourth year of his sentence in an Alaskan gulag for failing to follow up on what looked - at the turn of the century - to be the dawn of a new American hegemony.
Congress is debating whether his continued refusal to furnish more in his series is actually due to writer's block or whether hostile actors have convinced him to drag his feet.

The sentence is indefinite, under the Writers Block Act of 1948. Critics of the legislation point to JRR Tolkien, who would have been locked up under it if it had been applicable to the UK, and prevented the completion of his epic trilogy that provided the UK's deterrent throughout the Cold War.

Europe's Northwestern power is the United Republic of Ireland and Great Britain. The Nazi turn against modernist literature meant that in the 1940s they were helpless to face an Entente that was able to deploy not just Finnegan's Wake but In Search of Lost Time.

Francoist Spain lasted approximately two weeks before the fascists were driven into the sea by General Lorca.

Firstly, sad I missed this in real time because of hectic work schedule, and literally the most important elections since 1994TM which they all got called after 1994 but this time it actually is (also said 5, 10, 15, and 20 years ago).

Secondly, this premise I laughed out loud, real hard chuckle.

Thirdly, Henry, the pen!
Wha?
The pen is mightier than the sword

[Connery grunts]

Fourthly, ok in Africa
Sembené's God's Bits of Word shatter both Soyinka's Lion and his Jewel, and Senegalese hegemony in West Africa is certain, and while Ngugi's subversive I will hit you when I want utterly confuses everyone about Kenya's intentions (as does Malan's My traitor's heart) until southern Africa hits back hard: the undiluted power of Mandoza's Indoda and Clegg's Impi, with the logistics of Masekela's Stimela* and Mapfumo's Chitima* cheRusununguko were unstoppable. Senegal surrendered.
