Lists of Heads of Government and Heads of State

In my research while doing the Trump TL, I just discovered an interesting factoid about 4Chan being ... leftist? Once upon a time?

Sometime in the mid-to-late 2000s, 4chan was predominantly comprised of Socdems, Hacktivists, and Libertarians (even if these loose groups harbored self-declared "ironic racists" in them) IIRC 4chan went originally primarily to Obama OTL (in 2008), with some members (mainly hacktivists/script kiddies whatever), actually helping Obama via semi-legal means - hell even the US Pirate Party got in on it - It was just after people who said they were part of Anonymous - A group that still remains pretty left-wing, and one of the main reasons Scientology is sorta-kinda dead OTL - the Lulzsec group, Wikileaks people, Assange, etc. and other's began to be arrested that 4chan began taking a more explicitly racist turn, with people attempting to find a reason for Obama's supposed "backstabbing" that being the moment when the "ironic bigotry" abruptly stopped being ironic.

No 4chan was always racist - they used to make George Zimmermann memes in 2012 and used to make Swastika groupings with their characters on Habbo back in the mid 2000s. I don't know why this "4chan was proto Chapo Trap House" thing exists when the evidence points to the contrary. There were more Libertarians back in the day but they too weren't pro-multicultural bleeding hearts.

I was on 4Chan at the time, being a weird teenager, and there was no particularly "socdem" or "pro-Obama" attitude - it was just angry techno-libertarianism, which happened to have common ground with the left over stuff like Scientology or OWS or Wikileaks or the Arab Spring.

The main difference from today's imageboards is that the racism was casual, rather than programmatic and linked to actual offline political movements. Gamergate was probably the moment the bigotry became central rather than in addition to a topic for memes and jokes.

I feel old explaining this!

I’m too young to have been a part of 4chan during the Bush years, but in the early 2010s the politics of 4chan was just being contrarian for the sake of it, and sticking to the opposite of whatever the dominant thought on a subject may be, as well as stanning some random people.

Mate the whole reason the /pol/ board was made was because people kept posting Stormfront stuff in the /new/ (news) board. Do you think that "Politically Incorrect" meant supporting Occupy Wall Street or do you think it meant supporting Ron Paul because he was supposedly going after ZOG?

Presidents of Ukraine
smh making a list playing off the Davyd Arakhamiya quote and not including Davyd Arakhamiya

Still, it's very rare to see Ukraine lists and I adore it a lot

The color scheme is nice

Oh my god Oleksandr Dubinsky, he's a riot

Mykhailo Fedorov's initiatives are... interesting, to say the least

CPA/CPUSA endorsements for President of the United States of America
_____________________________________

1944: President Franklin D. Roosevelt / Vice President Henry A. Wallace (Democrat) (334 EV/50,2% PV)

“Comrades! The Communist Political Association must not be considered as a step back for the American worker’s movement, but rather the formation of a new vanguard for the protection of the New Deal and the defeat of fascism across the globe. We stand before a new era of peace, and the CPA shall help forge it!”

1948: President Henry A. Wallace / Sec. of Defense Claude Pepper (Democrat) (215 EV/47,3% PV)

“The forces of reaction have grown bolder over the past four years. It is thus all the more important that we stand with President Wallace in his fight against the man who drafted the Taft-Hartley bill, and the Dixiecrats. If a Taft re-enters the White House, all the progress we have made on the domestic front, and on the international front with comrade Zhdanov, will go to waste”.

1952: Vice President Claude Pepper / Governor G. Mennen Williams (Democrat) (343 EV/51,5% PV)

“The corrupt-bargain of 48 has left us with more poverty, more division, and more grieving mothers around the world. The only member of the disastrous Taft administration who has continued his commitment to worker’s rights and internationalism is Vice President Claude Pepper. It is only right for us as communists to pay him back for his attempts to stop Taft’s union busting”.

1956: President Claude Pepper / Vice President G. Mennen Williams (Democrat) (299 EV/49,8% PV)

“Solidarity with France! Re-elect the President”.

1960: Vice President G. Mennen Williams / Senator Wayne Morse (Democrat) (224 EV/45,6% PV)

“It is indicative of the Grand Old Party that they try to style the fattest of fat cats as a friend of the labor movement. Comrades, do not be fooled. New England ”moderatism” is no different from other Republican plans to secure the boot of capitalism on the workingman’s throat. Furthermore, Senator Lodge comes from a long line of rich politicians who have not just opposed labor legislation, but also internationalism. This November VP Williams is our only true choice”.

1964: Fmr. Governor George Wallace / Senator Joe P. Kennedy (Democrat) (189 EV/46,8% PV)

“We realize that many of our members have precautions about Governor Wallace’s commitment to our ideals. His record on civil rights may not be what we have hoped for, but he still made serious progress in breaking the National Party’s racist monopoly. Furthermore, Governor Wallace has always been a friend of labor, and it is important for us to remember that the CPA is a movement of all 51 states, not just the Northern ones”.

1968: Fmr. Ambassador to the UN John Kenneth Galbraith / Senator Hale Boggs (Democrat) (73 EV/39,6% PV)

“Across the country, working families are asking themselves when the radicalization of the Democratic Party will stop. Rather than accept the CPA’s ambitious proposal of a UN-led joint USA-USSR peacekeeping mission in the Congo, Democrats have instead endorsed the call for unilateral withdrawal from the heart of Africa. Furthermore, the DNC has been terrorized by radical queer organizations, and the party’s willingness to associate with such organizations has only caused more question marks. Nevertheless, the CPA is a friend in both good times and bad times, though we must warn Ambassador Galbraith that radicalism in the pursuit of worker’s rights is a vice”.

1972: Governor Walter Reuther / Senator Marvin Mandel (Democrat) (332 EV/52,1% PV)

“America for Reuther! And Reuther for Labor!”

1976: President Walter Reuther / Vice President Marvin Mandel (Democrat) (298 EV/50,6% PV)

“Even though we wished President Reuther would put a greater focus on the grievances of the working class American, rather than various stripes of radical movements, we shall continue to insist that after 12 years of ‘Me First’ policies under the Republicans, it is good to have a people’s President again”.

1980: no official endorsement (Chairman Gil Green made a late public call to vote against Republican-Conservative candidate G. Gordon Liddy)

“For too long the Democratic Party has taken the Communist vote for granted! We stood by quietly as the Democratic Party embraced both left-wing and right-wing groups opposed to the goals of organized labor. President Reuther has gone another step further, and ended our decades long friendship with the USSR. For the 1980 Presidential Election the CPA has found no candidate in line with our core beliefs, and is calling for committed communists to vote to their conscious, though we must warn them to not be deceived by right-wing charlatans claiming to defend your rights”.

1984: Senator John Y. Brown Jr. / Fmr. Secretary of Defense Ed Muskie (Democrat) (40 EV/44.9% PV)

“We cannot repeat the mistake of four years ago. Senator Brown may not be what we wanted, but it is better to attempt to reform from within, than sit quietly on the outside. Never before had our movement been threatened to such an extent, now is the time for pragmatism”.

1988: Shadow Senator Jesse Jackson / Party Leader Michael Harrington (United Left) (23 EV/10,1% PV) [only endorsed by CPA, CPUSA did not endorse United Left ticket]

“Comrades, we realize that the past decade has been though for our movement, and we are not proud at what happened at the National Convention, but it was vital for not just our party, but also the American socialist movement that we changed our relationship with the wider American leftist movement. Endorsing Jesse Jackson is of course controversial, especially considering how often we have fought with him in the past, but it is vital for us to show the changing American proletariat that the CPA stands with the wider Popular Front, even if it comes at the expense of our relationship with our comrades in the USSR. To our comrades opposed to the ‘New Salerno Turn’ we’d like to reach out our hand of friendship. There shall be no purges or removals. Those who are not in line with the party line shall get their chance to argue for a new direction after November”.

1992: Businessman Ross Perot / Governor Cecil Heftel (various) (7 EV/20,1% PV)

“The traditional two parties preach freedom, while at the same time selling American jobs overseas. The American worker is bleeding, yet the ‘solution’ of both Democrats and Republicans is more free-trade, more war, more monopolies, more political corectness, more, more, more. Our alliance with Jesse Jackson has proven to be a mistake. He and his Democratic friends care more about radical fringe groups than the average American. Our former comrades in the labor movement are no different. The CPA/CPUSA must forge new alliances, and this all starts with the election of Ross Perot to the White House”.

1996: Fmr. Governor Pat Buchanan / Labor Leader James P. Hoffa (Communist) (64 EV/25,2% PV)

“The working Scottish-American is suffering because we keep giving money to big companies. The working Irish-American is suffering because we keep wasting millions by fighting in South Africa. The working Nowergian-American is suffering because we keep wasting money on fighting AIDS while millions of American workers don’t have healthcare. The working Italian-American is suffering because Attorney General Eric Holder is persecuting his civil right’s league. The working German-American is suffering because Congressman Ron Paul is being persecuted for standing against the woke capitalist hegemony”.

A silly little UK-as-Spain thing I had floating around in my brain. Astute (or just awake) observers might note that a bunch of Plaid and SNP parliamentary leaders had nothing to do with nationalism otl, but 1) right-leaning nats had to be found somewhere and 2) this is a world where british liberalism largely died a violent death in the trenches of shropshire and the labor camps of Gerald Templer.

1980 - : Jean Chrétien (Liberal)
1980 (Majority) def. Jack Horner (Progressive Conservative), Dave Barrett (New Democratic), Camil Samson (Social Credit)

Dave Barrett was the right man at the wrong time.

Indeed his combination of Firebrand Populism and Fabian Socialist influences were something that would have been more at ease during the days of the Cooperative Commonwealth or the New Deal Populism of the Kingfish, not in the tense and complicated environment of the New Democratic Party in the aftermath of the Waffle.

But despite it all, Barrett succeeded, he succeeded to become the Premier of British Columbia by a surprise majority as the Social Credit dominance shattered and he would a few years later after David Lewis’s abrupt resignation after the New Democrats surprise election success in 1974 succeed to become leader. And in 1977, in an election dominated by wage and price controls, free trade agreements and law and order rhetoric against Unions and the Working Class, Barrett would to the surprise of many, gain the New Democrats a landslide victory and a majority New Democratic Government, a majority of three but a majority all the same.

Barrett would go down in history, it’s he’s not too when you’re Canada’s first Socialist and Jewish Prime Minister but he would certainly become known for more than just that.

Whilst certainly his environmental protection laws, the creation of a Canadian Insurance Corporation, the Federal Minimum Wage act and the Industrial Democracy and Relations Act would certainly be popular and long lasting legacies of Barrett’s time in office, the illusion of long lasting Canadian Social Democracy that Canadian’s on certain strands of the Left like to point to as fine examples of it.

But for others, Barrett was controversial, the Petro-Canada project, the attempted Nationalisations of the timber and mining industries, the unabashed protectionist attitude that soured relations with Washington, the government funded failed Media Cooperative, the Maple Leaf lead to cries of both Socialist overreach by the Conservatives and of Cronyism by Liberals as Barrett often filled these new crown corporations with like minded individuals or fellow travellers of the Barrett New Democratic thought.

Not helping matters was Barrett’s habit of being unable to fire or let go members of his cabinet and caucus who had been found guilty of corruption, or cronyism or general incompetence. As Canada’s first Socialist Prime Minister, there was a steep learning curve for Barrett and at times he seemed unable or unwilling to acknowledge his mistakes.

Meanwhile on the social front, many liberals and progressives frowned at Barrett’s clumsy approach towards civil rights, his half hearted efforts towards securing the rights of minority groups and his generally un-politically correct nature. Making sometimes lewd jokes to female reporters or the off the cuff disparage comments about minority groups whilst very much in line with some of Barrett’s base didn’t particularly enthuse the younger more liberal voters who had brought the man into office, indeed even Rosemary Brown, a British Columbia New Democratic MLA would make the news through her critique of Barrett’s policies towards minorities.

Meanwhile Democratic Socialists like Leo Paitch would disparage Barrett for his inability to truly change Canada in a Democratic Socialist direction, too couched in the Fabianism and Prairie Populism that had dominated the older quarters of the New Democratic Party.
The media chewed Barrett and his government apart, business despised him and would often make his life difficult, fighting his nationalisation projects every step of the way. This outsider who threatened the establishment with his Socialist ways.

And then there was Quebec.

Quebec had been the downfall of Trudeau and in 1980 it would be Barrett’s too.

Barrett had not gotten along with Quebec Premier René Lévesque, who despite seemingly agreeing with the Social Democratic ideals of Barrett, but whose belief in Quebec sovereignty annoyed the Western based Federalist that Barrett was. Additionally the lingering scars of the October Crisis threatened to open in 1980 when Lévesque called a referendum on Quebec Sovereignty and its constitutional position.

Barrett would involve the federal government in the referendum, and much decrying was made about Barrett breaking the Referendum Act as his Government helped Finance the No campaign. To make matters worse, due to the lacking New Democratic presence in Quebec, the many face of the No Campaign would be Liberal leader Jean Chrétien who would steal the show for many with his Populist rhetoric that rang of Barrett in his early days.

As the referendum would swing towards No, Barrett seeing a surge in the polls for his government would call a snap election in the October of that year. Expecting an easy ride, Barrett rapidly realised he was unprepared, Chrétien easily ran circles around Barrett as ‘Captain Canada’ and Progressive Conservative leader Jack Horner attacked government waste and inefficiency in the constituency’s that had ensued Barrett’s victory in 1977.

David Barrett would lose in a landslide to the Liberals and indeed fell just narrowly into third place. Indeed Barrett only just managed to hold onto his constituency after two recounts. It was a sad state of affairs for a man seen as the future in 1977.

Indeed, Barrett would watch as Chrétien oversaw the dismantling of Barrett’s attempted Social Democratic Canada, and watch with resignation as his once New Democratic dominated West would be steadily swept away over the course of the eighties.

Barrett whilst would merrily congratulate Alexa McDonough when the New Democrats came back into office in 1996, for many this would see the New Democrats conceding to the change in politics that had occurred in the intervening time.

Barrett’s dream had died, but its ideals would live on despite it all, even if his party was no longer the one to propel it forward.

Very wacky people. He can't even beat Mitch McConnell, who is a literal turtle, seriously, look at his face!"
- Donald Trump; January 12, 2008

We have the look. He talks about two Americas - he's right! There's us, the working-class, the common folk of America. And then there's bankers. Wall Street guys who work at places...like Bain Capital. Nasty dudes! And they wrecked the economy and now you're all paying for it. We're not going to have it. Not me, not John. Come here John!"

And then the Republicans toss away trillions bombing Iraqis, Afghan children, whoever. And then we're even more in debt, and they go 'wow, we're in debt. Looks like we need to cut Social Security and Medicare.' It's sick and wrong. Just the greatest scam on the American people in history ever. Now Mitt Romney's Wall Street are messing up the economy, and let me tell you, you meet so many, good normal homeowners sinking. And they're going to use the debt they created again to say we can't help these tremendous people. It's all a scheme, people. And we're not falling for it again."

September 2008:
Republican National Convention to convene in Minnesota.

"Trump and Obama won't keep America safe. They'll take our troops out from Iraq, out from Afghanistan, out from Saudi Arabia. And instead of fighting them in Fallujah, we'll be fighting hem in Philadelphia."
- An excerpt of Tom Ridge's speech at the 2008 Republican National Convention; September 2, 2008

"My friends, Donald Trump has never ever respected what makes America great. Capitalism, free enterprise, and our military strength. While he was avoiding military service by claiming bone spurs, I was flying aerial combat missions in Vietnam. So hear it directly from me America, that a Trump-Obama administration would be a green light to the dictators of terrorists of the world that it's open season on America."
- An excerpt of Senator John McCain's speech at the 2008 Republican National Convention; September 3, 2008

"Ultimately, this election is a struggle for America's soul. One on hand, we have free enterprise, our Judeo-Christian values, our military prowess, and the values that have made America strong from its founding. On the other side, we have demagogic left-wing rhetoric that leads directly to poverty and terror. If you like what you see in America, then a Trump-Obama ticket will essentially be a mulligan for our nation."

United States Treasury Department Requests $700 Billion Bailout from Congress.

"Donald, I don't want to be cruel, but your business acumen just isn't that good. You say you're going to balance the national budget, but you've gone bankrupt four times. How can you balance America's budget when you can't even balance the budget for a hotel?"
- Excerpt(s) from Mitt Romney during the first 2008 Presidential Debate; September 26, 2008

"Look, Mitt, we're both businessmen. But first, I am very bigly more successful. I made my billions creating thousands of jobs, great businesses, luxurious hotels, exciting casinos, beautiful golf clubs, fantastic resorts, great products. But Mitt - he made his millions, millions by the way, way less than my billions, and he made this pittance by buying up great, beautiful companies, and then firing people. Coming in all nasty and sick and getting his kicks from firing people, ending careers, wrecking beautiful families. If you're worried about paying rent, getting foreclosed on, losing your job, only one of us here made money by helping people like you, believe me, okay?"
- Excerpt(s) from Donald Trump during the first 2008 Presidential Debate; September 26, 2008

"Donald. You're not going to insult your way to the Presidency."
- Mitt Romney; September 26, 2008.

On October 6th, The Wall Street Journal publishes an article that includes audio of Donald Trump with Billy Bush of Access Hollywood. In the never-before-seen clips, Trump describes how he would attempt to seduce women, including kissing them and grabbing them by “the pussy.”

"Look, I don't recognize that voice. I don't remember saying any of these nasty, horrible things. I've always been a women's rights advocate. Always, believe. Look, I'm not saying anyone faked the tape. But there is an organization out there. And they faked Iraqi WMDs. They torture innocent people across the world in black-sites. Just saying again, it wouldn't be very hard for them to fake a video, if they wanted to. After all, read the history! The deep state, the CIA. Very nasty people, JFK tried to stand up to them and look what happened to our boy JFK. If you can peddle crack to the blacks, you can definitely fake a tape. Sick and wrong lies!"

I'm the candidate of the 99% - Romney doesn't even represent 4.7% of Americans. And give a hand to our boys from the hacker group 4chan. Maybe they had help from the Russians, maybe not. A Year in review
The Independent, 12th May 2022

One year into the “New politics” as defined under the constitutional convention and Britain is still getting used to multi party politics. Nick Clegg may have eked out a win under the new system and was able to form a broad coalition with the Greens and support on an issue by issue basis with other parties but it remains to been how stable it is. While the green credentials of the government have been praised, many on the left of the Greens have criticised the “centrist” economic policies lead by the Liberal Democrats. The stability of the government however is the fracturing of the right during the pandemic and the empowerment of Parties on the right such as UKIP, the “Culture Warrior” Liberty GB lead by Lawrence Fox and the Conspiratorial Freedom Alliance. Liz Truss frequently finds herself drowned out by voices on her own back benches. Meanwhile the Government’s “Arms reach” partners in the Labour Party continue to grow in popularity with Rayner striking a balance between cooperation with the government and distancing herself on unpopular issues.

On other issues the newly empowered Scottish Parliament delivered an inconclusive result with the SNP-Lib Dem government looking to continue. In Wales Labour have several options fo their junior coalition partner. The government looks to their next major test of popularity. The English Parliamentary elections in May 2023.

Nandy Forms Third Government in three years:
BBC News, 12th May 2022

The Queen invited National Government Prime Minister Lisa Nandy to form a government. This time her partners were the resurgent Liberal Democrats. The Prime Minister and Jo Swinson held a press conference at Ten Downing Street to announce the coalition agreement which is expected to be much closer to the centre than the short lived red-green-red government between Labour, the Greens and the Left Party. Labour have been praised for their handling of the COVID Pandemic and Nandy specifically for her leadership as head of the National Government in which Labour governed alongside all parties except UKIP and the Conservatives (although the latter were consulted). Labour have also benefited from the collapse of the Left Party who were rocked by several online disputes between party leader Aaron Bastani and various party members as well as the very public affairs of Left then Independent MP Russell Brand and his followers who have been described as “cult like” in following their increasingly conspiratorial leader.

Meanwhile the Liberal Democrats have returned from their seven year trip in the Wilderness to find electoral success. This is partly due to several high profile situations such as when the Prime Minister fell ill with COVID and the Deputy Prime Minister Sir Ed Davey took over the regular press conferences. However a lot of the Liberal Democrats success is due to the failings of other parties. The Conservatives were rocked in 2021 and 2022 by several scandals involving Leader of the Opposition Boris Johnson breaking lockdown rules at Conservative Party HQ and at his London residence. This combined with the hard right leadership of UKIP under Anne Marie Waters has led to some on the right actually voting for the Liberal Democrats as the best alternative.

It remains to be seen whether Nandy and Swinson’s government is steadier than the often rocky Clegg-Miliband Government of twelve years previously. Unlike the chaotic election of 2010. Labour are undeniably the senior party in both vote share and seats.
