John Tyler type situation with Congressional election of the President

Obviously the more straightforward "first effect"would be in 1824 and the effects on discussion of any "Corrupt Bargain" and in any case, you know, butterflies but this entered my head after Zoom chats on Friday and wouldn't leave - in this kind of situation, given Congress expects to just elect the President anyway, is it more likely that they just pass a law saying the VP is only Acting President until a new election is organised?
