Governor Harris

In May 1944 Sir Godfrey Huggins approached Arthur "Bomber" Harris to become governor of Southern Rhodesia, replacing Sur Evelyn Baring. Churchill didn't want Harris to leave the war at this key stage, and Harris agreed with that, so (after various temps), Salisbury got John Noble Kennedy.

What if Harris had gone back to Salisbury, what affect would a man of his character had?

Harris would have retired well before UDI, but it's quite likely he wouldn't have had the relatively easygoing reputation Kennedy had?

Would this beautiful waterhole at Hwange National Park have ended up named Bomber Harris Pan instead of Kennedy No 1 ?

I'm not sure how much difference it would make?

Harris got his arm twisted into providing support for D-Day and Normandy and effectively lost independence to operate until later in the campaign, Germany was already largely in ruins though his successor might be a bit more willing to go after vulnerable nodes so jam its industry just a bit quicker.

In Rhodesia well Harris loved the place, was a racist, liked bombing troublesome tribesmen rather than shooting them, so probably pushes for a Rhodesian RAF and otherwise probably just does whatever his OTL counterpart did. He'd probably be pushing their point of view quite heavily internationally but again I'm not sure if it makes a difference.

He might well have been more hands on than Kennedy, although with the very ambitious Higgins as PM that could have worked well together or not. But if he lasted long enough for the much more liberal Todd's election, there'd probably be fireworks
