Catholic Emancipation was a factor motivating the unification of Ireland and Great Britain into a single Kingdom. PM Pitt the Younger pushed for it, as did Castlereagh. But King George III vetoed it; believing that Catholic emancipation would be a violation of his royal oath to protect the Anglican Church. What if George III were persuaded enfranchisement would not violate his oath, or he were declared mad sooner and the Prince Regent makes the decision. Catholic emancipation is passed as part of the Acts of Union.
