Lord Mountbatten wouldn’t have died.“WI: Tricia Nixon had superpowers”?
Not much of a superhero.Lord Mountbatten wouldn’t have died.
Sorry, you’ll have to wait for the extreme grim ‘n’ gritty 90s major event of Terrific Tricia: Emerald Twilight. When Lord Mountbatten dies on the cricket field due to Terrific Tricia’s newest and deadliest foe, Incandescent Rage Amphibian, our heroine will find out what it truly means to get Justice in a suddenly colder, crueler world. Not much of a superhero.
Too yong he only started stunts in 1966Silly WI: Instead of test pilots, NASA chooses motorcycle stunt performers as astronauts. Evel Knievel thus becomes the first man on the moon.
More than enough time to prove to NASA he has the right stuff! All Lyndon Johnson has to do is watch one of his stunts!Too yong he only started stunts in 1966
Lyndon Johnson: “Evel, you are the damndest engineer I’ve ever met. I’ll let the eggheads at NASA know they’ve got a new mission: Phobos Ramp 1969. By the way, want to see Jumbo? Or a really cool puppy trick? I’m proud of both of them.”"We don't need a Saturn V, just a good motorcycle and a big enough ramp."
AH where Churchill becomes a pilot, anyone?

Are there any stories or settings which depict the collapse of a civilization from its periphery or even from outside of it? I think I've read something about a Hearts of Iron mod in which the end scene is from the perspective of a nomad or hermit in Siberia noticing bright lights on the horizon that are actually from atomic firestorms in Soviet cities hundreds of miles away.

IIRC one of the vignette challenge entries on this very site is about a Middle Eastern nuclear war from the viewpoint of the unlucky nomadic herdsman who happened to provide an Evangelical with a pure red heifer.
One of the best stories ever written on this forum, in my opinion.
Well thank you.
I just read it and it is remarkable.
