Let's say that Silas Wright is somehow convinced to allow himself to be put forward as a compromise candidate during the 1844 DNC and as a result he becomes the Democratic nominee rather than James K. Polk. Would Polk be chosen for the VP nomination or someone else? Would a Wright/Polk ticket still defeat Clay/Frelinghuysen, and if so would the anti-annexationist Wright be able to prevent the annexation of Texas and war with Mexico? How would he approach the Oregon Question? And if Wright still dies in 1847 as per OTL, how much could Polk achieve before the 1848 Election, which in OTL were won by the Whigs?
