AHC: President John Glenn

Doesn’t hit his head on a bathtub in ‘64, Humphrey picks young first-term Senator Glenn for VP in ‘68 for much the same reason that Fred Harris was one of the two finalists, Glenn brings (marginally) more to the ticket than Muskie and is sworn in as President sometime in the mid ‘70s when HHH passes away.

tbh President Glenn is so straightforward an AHC that you can practically just speed-run it

Yeah it'd be more interesting to make a "WI President John Glenn" than an AHC.

Seems easy enough to make Famous National Hero John Glenn a president

John Glenn Astronaut actually was a liability for him in '84, because it kind of dwarfed every other aspect about him and made him this one-dimensional celebrity candidate.

It was so strong that Mondale could kind of get away with calling him a 'celluloid candidate' and Fritz Hollings could make jibes about being 'confused in your cap-sool', and fuck, I mean look at Glenn's military record and vote-getting in Ohio.
