Reyt, this will be my first thread on the forum, ever, so lets see how this goes. Seriously if anyone has any questions about the first map (its the state of the world in 1935 so there are changes from the end of the Great War to then) just throw them to me and I'll do a post answering for you!

Abfallkrieg - "The Waste War"

In 1917, the Zimmerman telegram isn't sent and consequently the USA doesn't join the war. The Germans, feeling less pressed for time and much more confident that they were IRL, choose to continue with a slow, defensive war, whittling the Allies down, hoping that food from Ukraine and new Eastern Conquests will mitigate the Allied blockade which is taking a major toll on the home front.

In 1918, the Allied blockade continues to take its toll, but Allied land-offensives feel like running headlong into a brick wall as casualties mount, though success is seen as the Germans are forced to withdraw to a shorter line with better defensive prospects, seeing Allied gains, the largest of the war so-far, but still far from a blow which would take the Germans out of the war. In the South, the Allies begin to push into Macedonia, fighting their way towards liberating the beleaguered Serbians as the first auxiliary troops from Germany's new Eastern gains begin arriving to shore up defences and enable the Germans to broadly withdraw their fighting troops to hold the West. In the Middle-East... look there's no saving the Ottomans, the front is bordering on collapse, and even with the exit of the Russians, Ottoman troops are far too little, far too late.

In 1919, the Bulgarians, depending on who you ask, either through seeing the writing on the wall for the Southern fronts, or being convinced by brilliant Entente diplomacy, are promised land in return for switching sides, specifically massive gains in the East from the Ottomans, as well as an indication of a return of Eastern Thrace from the Greeks. The Bulgarian's duly agree in May 1919, and take part in the liberation of Serbia as well as begin major military operations into Edirne and towards the Bosporus. In the West, the Allies continue a slow grind through layer on layer of German defences, casualties are mounting for both sides, and the French, beyond the point of breaking, are increasingly forced to take a backseat in offensive operations. By the end of 1919, around 30% of German-occupied Alsace is in Allied hands and the first offers of peace are being meaningfully bandayed around. In the German home front, the situation continues to remain precarious, and it isn't known how long the current situation can last, even with food shipping from Ukraine and Poland. In the UK, the Irish rise up, the Irish War of Independence begins.

In 1920, the Ottoman Empire finally capitulates, the weight of a two front war shattering their will to fight as an Armistice is signed on the 19th September, 1920. Germany finally brings to a halt the Allied offensives in the West as the Allies finally have taken the majority of Alsace but are beyond the point of broken. British forces are needed in Ireland, the French, are past the point of being able to sustain major offensive operations the British Commonwealth Soliders have given more than could ever be expected and from October 1920, the Entente digs in. In Germany the home situation reaches a crisis point and a famine sets in in Ukraine as a poor harvest sees more food taken to Germany from the Ukrainians, beginning one of the worst famines in human history.

In 1921, the last Allied Offensive is undertaken in May 1921, it is the last ditch effort to break the German war effort, and is a cumulative 3 front Offensive. In Italy, the most successful, the Austrians are broadly driven off of Italian soil, but at the cost of Italian will to fight. In the south, the Serbians, British, Greeks and Bulgarians have reached Southern Bosnia, and it is clear that everyone is beyond sapped of the strength to fight. In the west, the attack nearly, nearly, breaks the German's and sees Germany proper open for advance, but the end result? The Allies are spent. The German's hold, and even as the situation deteriorates at home, seeing the German Revolution in December 1921, the decision is made, peace must be signed.

In 1922, peace is signed. March 6th, 1922. The war is over, and a peace is built. German hegemony is recognised in Eastern Europe and Luxembourg annexed. France regains Alsace. Serbia is able to build the Greater Serbian nation she always dreamed off. Bulgaria gets her land and Romania sees a renegotiation of Bucharest. In Asia colonies are taken, but if Africa the status quo reigns again. In the west, the borders of Europe change a scant few miles, and every father, son, mother and daughter is left to wonder...

What was it all for?
