60 Years of Doctor Who. Part 6: The Sixth Doctor

Nicely pointed out that the butterfly of this serial not being made is the UNIT dating controversy. Between Mawdryn Undead being a replacement for Song of the Space Whale and them not being able to secure William Russel to reprise Ian Chesterton it's amazing how much had to go wrong to create that one annoying continuity error.

Interviewed in 2009 for the eventual audio adaptation, Mills would put Saward’s objections down to a reaction to the over-the-top humour of the late Tom Baker era and Saward wishing to put more of a serious tone back into Doctor Who.

That's interesting, in other interviews and articles Mills had said Saward didn't like the working-class parts and allegedly thinking there wouldn't be class issues in the future (though that doesn't quite fit some of the eps Saward did oversee and write).

Eric Saward is a land of contrasts.
