From Wikipedia:

In 1978, Cleveland police warned then-mayor Dennis Kucinich that local Mafia members had put out a hit on him because of some of his mayoral initiatives were hindering money-making opportunities. Police told Kucinich that a hitman was planning on shooting the mayor while he marched in The Columbus Day Parade in October 1978. Kucinich missed the parade as he was hospitalized with a ruptured ulcer.

Further details available here.

While I have serious doubts about the veracity of this story, let's assume for a moment there genuinely was a successful plot by the Scalish family to assassinate Dennis Kucinich, capping off a violent gang war against the Irish Mob. This naturally leads to two questions:

1. The differences caused by the inevitable public outcry against the Mafia- killing the mayor of a major American city is pretty far beyond the pale and there's assuredly going to be a major national crackdown.

2. What becomes of the political landscape on the federal level down the line without a major Democratic figure such as Kucinich?

Willie Nelson does not endorse the guy. Fox News will have to rely more on Bob Beckel, or find another liberal/progressive malleable enough to appear on the network. I doubt Ralph Nader would ever appear on Fox News, so try looking at failed third party candidates from 2000, 2004, & 2008. Maybe someone affiliated with the Reform Party.
