I've a friend who doesn't get it.
So the actual context, is that in the 1985 the fans of the Hanshin tigers baseball team threw that statue of Colonel Sanders into the main canal of Osaka as part of celebrating them winning the national finals. This caused a 40 year run of generally poor results which ended last year with the team winning last year.
The statue had been fished out a few years back and has been kept an KFC japan hq (i think) since but the condition of it is now so poor that they are going to ceremony burn it.
As seen in my 2023 Canada travelogue, there's a sport stuff shop on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls that sells baseball caps of every nation...including South Vietnam.
