Effects of a Successful 1796 French Invasion of Ireland?

This has been discussed before and I’m interested in getting a feel of what people here thinks will happen if Hoche manages to land his more than 10K men in Ireland. Do they think he’ll succeed? Create a Hibernian Republic? Just cause general mayhem for the British?

What about the British involvement in the wars south of them? Will they pull out as to handle what would probably be an extended rebellion? Would they sign an armistice or a peace with the French?

It most likely goes like the Irish Rebellion in 1798, but earlier and with more dead people. If the French do actually knock Britain out of Ireland, independence won't last long because Britain invades during the Napoleonic Wars.

After that, Ireland's going to still want independence, more so after briefly having it and pits full of martyrs. The Presbytarians were allied with Catholics during that time so you've just butterflied "republicanism is CATHOLIC, unionism is PROTESTANT" away (to "THOSE protestants" at least) Eventually you get independence but now it's a different type of it.

I imagine that British views on Irish secession are gonna be even less favourable compared to OTL if THE FRENCH made a serious go of backing it. Could be a rather nastier 1800s for the Emerald Isle - but of course that's ignoring the ramifications of a successful significant French landing anywhere in the British Isles on British politics, even if it is in Ireland.

If you do get a successful French takeover, that does suggest to me that British seapower has been broken. France would have won the Revolutionary Wars.
