That response is a little disingenuous. One of them said something along the lines off ‘I don’t know when the fourth book is coming out, but I wouldn’t buy it.’ But I didn’t listen to all of it, so perhaps something balancing was also said.
That said, overall, you guys are probably right. Thanks for talking me down off the ledge. I appreciate the support.
I’m still miffed at the general tone of it and would love to answer their criticisms, but I wouldn’t go on their broadcast for love or money. From that showing, most of them are not serious people, and most of the written comments by listeners that showed up in the margin were ignorant in every sense of that term.
There are two general points that I still think are worth making because they support the credibility of the research that went into DD. Firstly, that about 95% of the designs they criticized me for were real world designs made by real world ship designers and if they’d read a bit more of my website, they’d have known that. The second is the related one about world building in alternate history and how perfect designs, penned with hindsight, AutoCAD and computers, work against plausibility.
If the opportunity arises, I will make those points, but I won’t be snarky and I won’t post it in the comments on YouTube.
So, I’m going to let it go like that cartoon chick in Frozen.
Well, perhaps with less dancing.
Never mind, at least I’m not the head designer at Jaguar Cars.
