Shades of Newfoundland...they just viewed being a British Overseas Territory as a more independent state than being part of St. Kitts and Nevis.
@Gary Oswald
I knew a bit about this, due to my curiosity on looking up Nottinghamshire MPs, but I now know the fully what happened which is nice.
William Whitlock’s career getting destroyed because he made a faux pas and then followed it up by claiming that ‘Violent Black Nationalists’ had taken the island seems very in tune with the clumsy nature of the Wilson Government and it’s dealings with former colonies.
As for the remaining question, why do I get the sense that an independent Anguilla would become the setting of a Death in Paradise type show.
I can see it, mostly because I can very easily see an independent Anguilla offering very generous perks to people wanting to film there as long as they provided some local employment.
It reminds me of a point I made about if Malta had stayed a British Overseas Territory Ala Gibraltar it would likely become the location for cheap British Detective Shows and Films, probably have the Sweeney 2 type energy.I can see it, mostly because I can very easily see an independent Anguilla offering very generous perks to people wanting to film there as long as they provided some local employment.
Not to mention create their own parties just in case and run the country themselves.You know, reading that the possibilities for independent Anguilla were assumed to be either Castro or Lansky I don't think I've ever seen ti done where the latter and the rest of the Mob simply set up shop in another Caribbean island. And to do it in one that's a micronation and where they can have a far greater influence over government is an intriguing story setting.
This sounds like something from a setting @Coiler would write in.You know, reading that the possibilities for independent Anguilla were assumed to be either Castro or Lansky I don't think I've ever seen ti done where the latter and the rest of the Mob simply set up shop in another Caribbean island. And to do it in one that's a micronation and where they can have a far greater influence over government is an intriguing story setting.
