Interesting choice with Keesmaat, but also logical enough that she succeeds Topp since he was her campaign manager for her mayoral run. Interesting that outside Montreal the NDP under her seems to be better performing in rural areas than urban ones though, I take it a strongly urban-oriented platform doesn't go down well with suburbanites and NIMBYs.

A slightly different take on the Premiers of Ontario for my Demand Better scenario. The original draft is in my test thread at the other place.

I actually have Beauce going Liberal in 2006. Now whether that’s because Bernier loses or opts against running, I haven’t decided yet. But he does run for the ADQ in 2007, getting elected as the MNA for Beauce-Sud. Gets re-elected a couple times, narrowly loses to Deltell for the leadership of the party, and rather than go along with the merger he forms his own party.

So, shades of OTL, but provincial.

Great stuff, I always love timelines where the NDP takes off in Quebec and ends up morphing into the Bloc as a result

Not too familiar with the NDP's history--was this ever close to happening in real life?

Phil Edmunston could've taken them down that path, and so could John Paul Harney if I'm not mistaken. If you want alt-hist shenanigans, Robert Cliche and Charles Taylor would be good NDP candidates, and for the wilder stuff Duceppe considered himself a Maoist before joining the BQ!

It wasn't super close to happening, but it's easy to imagine a scenario where they elect a few Quebec MPs in the 80s and, rather than forming the Bloc, nationalists instead rally behind the non-PC/Liberal option - doesn't seem super unrealistic considering how many of the party's 1988 candidates were separatist-curious. Basically the same thing that ended up happening to Social Credit in the 1960s.
