the blazers had the best player in the nba, an nba title, and the #3 and #6 picks in the nba draft going into the 1978 season what happened

american left-liberals are multitudes more successful than any other western nations and to pretend otherwise is american exceptionalism.

European and Latin American Social Democrats often lap us on welfare issues but on essentially everything else American progressives and left-liberals have led the way in global policy

was talking to someone about this but it really is insane and frankly incredibly stupid how much americans care about ireland. people still act like a unified ireland (whatever that means) would be a real divergence from policy and that it wouldn’t just be another part of a neoliberal tax haven (albeit with a crushed protestant minority).

the fact that there isn’t a Settlers type book written about the modern-day “oppressed” irish and sKKKottish is incredible.

i would also like to say that the peter king/mario biaggi types who were archconservative irish nationalists are probably more correct than any liberal advocating for irish unification because of the reddit star trek meme.

that being said i do hate the english

part of me agrees with u, but i would also say that Sinn Fein has proven themselves to be competent operators in the last decade or so and that a unification of Ireland under a Sinn Fein led Government would likely lead to them doing something about the whole "neoliberal tax haven" issue.

y'all ain't got any idea how long my dumbass has spent searching thru the like, Oklahoma Department of Parks and Recreation website to find potential future candidates. every time i get ideas for future history timelines i spend like six hours scrolling thru the pages of obscure law firms, activist groups, local governments and labor organizations to find candidates that are interesting enough to fit into the TL.
I typically use current College Democrats/Republicans, state legislators, city councilors, and myself

u should be more mad at the capitalist hellhole that is clear about it because, as far as i understand, u are an American and therefore are represented by the United States politically and economically. there is literally no point in "being mad" about the PRC as an American because the only solution that u have demonstrated is allowing the country that u are a citizen of, a core imperial country and the global hegemon of capitalism, to engage in imperial military ventures to contain them.

Aikman, Goldwater Part of Big New Recruiting Class for AZGOP

March 11, 2010 (AP): It’s normal for Arizonans to remember Troy Aikman fondly. The transfer from Oklahoma to Arizona State helped bring about the miracle 1987 season, where the Sun Devils upset #2 Nebraska in the third game of the season and were voted national champions after defeating Aikman’s old team; Oklahoma. Although Aikman would leave to the NFL after that year (drafted #3 overall by the Detroit Lions), he remains beloved by those in Arizona, especially as his once relatively unsuccessful NFL career would see a resurgence in the Copper State when he helped lead the Arizona Cardinals to the NFC championship in 1994.

Aikman today resides in Tempe, where he once played college football, and where he currently is a part stake owner in the Arizona Rattlers, the MLB team which he played a minor role in bringing to Arizona. However, in recent years he’s begun to take an interest in Republican politics, a dying breed in the state. Although Arizona would see its very own favorite son John McCain elected president in 1992 (defeating embattled incumbent Michael Dukakis), the state has swung to the left since McCain left office. Larry Echo Hawk would win Arizona twice in 2000 and 2004, and his chosen successor, another former athlete Dave Bing, would win it as well.

However, as a competitive senate race takes hold in the state, Aikman eyes opportunity. Incumbent senator Nan Walden is aging, and the Democratic party is unpopular due to economic downturn and the effects of the Great Lakes War. Although Republicans have searched for a variety of candidates, as strange as former Indiana senator Dan Quayle, former Democratic governor Richard Mahoney, or controversial sheriff Joe Arpaio, Aikman represents a chance for Republicans to unite around a wealthy and popular candidate.

Meanwhile, the Arizona gubernatorial election looks to be competitive as well. Arizona’s Democrats have won every election for the governor’s mansion since the controversial Evan Mecham governorship, but Richard Mahoney, elected as a Democrat in 1998, would serve as a Republican for two years from 2001-2003. However, he would be defeated by incumbent governor David Lujan. Lujan has grown unpopular in office, evidenced by his controversial education reform policies and a growing recession in the state.

Although Lujan is term-limited, whoever his successor is is facing an uphill battle and is doing so against a familiar name. Barry Goldwater Sr. was a man synonymous with Arizona politics, revolutionizing the state Republican party, and serving as a senator for thirty years from the state. When he left the senate he was replaced with future president John McCain, and although in his eighties, would serve as an unofficial advisor for the president until his death in 1998. Goldwater’s son, Barry Goldwater Jr. would follow in his father’s footsteps, albeit in California, serving as a long term congressman and himself running for senate in 1982. After his defeat he would largely be in retirement until he was tapped by McCain to be ambassador to France. Goldwater Jr. is still a major figure to this day, and is known now as an advocate for solar in Arizona.

However, it’s Barry Goldwater III, a former rap promoter, now car salesman from Phoenix who has been recruited by the party to run for governor. Despite Goldwater’s ties to rap music - often a target of the Grand Old Party’s ire - he represents a path towards staunch conservatism, with his libertarian-conservative politics being very similar in style to both his grandfather and father.

Both Aikman and Goldwater represent a new path forward for the once-hurting AZGOP - although both are flashy names, they could be the recruiting class to revive the state Republican party.

To be honest, I like those timelines.
They are good for me, a guy who loves depressing stuff with nothong happening.
(This is perhaps why I adore those glorious Soviet-Era apartment buildings, those great, beautiful, perfect... grey blocks!)
