Alternate GOP Presidential nominees for 1928?

Dawes is definitely the biggest option

Though, I do think that Andrew Mellon as the candidate is underrated
He was not going to be President. By then he was violating Federal Law in the name of expanding his art collection left and right, never mind his duty as Treasury Secretary or however much light treason it took.

Charles E Hughes?

Could he go for that over his ambition of the high court? How would his administration go?

Perhaps more significantly, what does it mean for Herbert Hoover's medium and long term future if he is not left personally holding the bag for the Great Depression?
