Would it be cool setting building or a step too far for my Catholic England to keep 25 March as the start of the civil year?

Correct on both counts! I’m just worried people will get the wrong ideas, esp. re Occult.

The Department of Probation (informally the Royal Office) is the Kingdom of England's domestic security and law enforcement agency. A branch of the Home Ministry, the D.P. has responsibility for criminal investigations within a limited jurisdiction established by various Acts of Parliament (most...

    London without the Great Fire?

Thanks for all the replies - much appreciated! My current (constantly shifting based on whims and useful input) idea is that the City and Hackney (and possibly other areas) are the 'bad' parts of London. London in general is a little smaller (both in area and population) than OTL, with much of...

    London without the Great Fire?

Indeed! For my specific setting, I should probably put some thought into why the City of London is mostly a worn down, post industrial slum ITTL. You don't need a great fire or French bombing to explain that sort of thing, really, but it does make it easier.

The custom is observed in most English-speaking countries except West Anglia, although...

    London without the Great Fire?

TIL there was a London Stone… I’ll definitely find a way to use it somewhere. Maybe it’s the focal point of a city park ITTL?

    London without the Great Fire?

Hey all. I’m working on the background of my Habsburg England setting and one aspect is that the 1666 fire gets butterflied away. How would this likely impact the shape of the city? (the City and the city, that is) The medieval cathedral would still be around in my TL, as would Whitehall Palace...

Part of the world-building for an AH murder investigation tale I'm working on in a world where Mary I had kids and England is Catholic and ruled by the Habsburgs to this day. Soft AH? Yes, yes it is. The County of Newfoundland is the largest of England's Overseas Counties. It consists of the...
