Since he announced his retirement, this seemed like a good time for this particular what if. What if Romney had won in 2012 and had some coattails? If 3% of voters voted Republican down the line instead of Democratic, that's a 53-47 Senate.
I'm guessing the Republicans sort of end up with the same problems as when Trump was elected though. No repeal and replace of Obamacare if Collins, Murkowski, McCain, and maybe one other don't like what they see. He would face Freedom Caucus revolts, and unlike Trump Romney wouldn't have a kind of hypnotic control over the party base to beat those guys into line over time.
