What if Spanish Prime Minister José Canalejas had not been assassinated in 1912? Historian Salvador de Madariaga argued that his death led to Spain's problems in the following decades as he was one of Alfonso XIII's few statesmen. Could have have reformed Spain into a true democracy, ending the peaceful turn system?
