Since the collapse of the Social Democrats in the 2010s, Rhui Island has been a firmly two-party-dominant province with the centrist Liberals and centre-right Country often alternating in power. The mafia, once dormant, began to gain power again by taking advantage of the bitter feuds to side with one party or the other in different cities, increasing favouring the Liberals. The Witchfinder General (long, long story) began an investigation in RI's ties to organised crimes, before arresting a lot of politicians quite publicly in 2040.

The Country leader was arrested, necessiting the election of Salomè Baggio as the new leader, but the Liberals were far from unscathed, with more than half of their Senators arrested for conspiring against public order. The Premier, Livia Benedetti, was finally deemed 'wilfully ignorant' and let off with a fine. However, the Lord Lieutenant of Rhui Island, under pressure from the Canadian Parliament, called a snap election for the next year.

The Social Democrats' splinter branch (and the federal SDP's new branch) the *Independent* Social Democrats, under always popular leader Elen Hisakawa, and the Greens under Luc Alescio, sought to take advantage of this, along with the minor centrist parties the religious-democratic (and vaguely Muslim) New Direction and centrist liberal Moderate Moose Party, both not represented in the Senate.

But it is undeniable that the person who rode the anger against a corrupt and criminal political scene was Rhob Machado, television show host made instantly famous for his long rant against the "criminals" and "parasites" undermining RI. Upon being flooded with letters asking him to follow through, he did and set up the Anti-Mafia Party, a party solely dedicated to one thing. Purging the Mafia.

As the campaign went on, Baggio and Benedetti's fortunes waned and the anger intensified as the Witchfinder General made more arrests. Many mayors were caught, the mafia went into hiding, and Rhob Machado's star continued to rise. A dramatic scene happened in the campaign when Machado's husband was kidnapped by a local don who wished to intimidate him. He refused to budge, and in the end his husband was rescued by a police raid. Many people lauded him as the "Clean Champion".

But in the end, Machado was weakened at the last hurdle by his party being mostly just a personalist one hastily built around him and anger at the mafia. It did not have the organisation to succeed. Not truly.

That honour went to the former 'third' and 'fourth' parties, the ISDP and Greens, now surging to first and second place respectively. Hisakawa elected to form a government of 'change', bringing in Machado as well as Alescio, a coalition of the three biggest parties against the old, rotten ways.

Just out of curiosity, what's the difference between the English and British languages?
The English language is a West Germanic one spoken by the English people in the Commonwealth of England and its diaspora.

The British language is an Insular Romance one spoken by the British people in the Kingdom of Britain and its diaspora.

The Solar System (Sol)

The Sun
(Sol): The star humanity was first warmed by. There's some ancient structures still around it that we now know of as the remnants of a Dyson Sphere. Talk of fixing it up is rife in the space community to fix energy needs. The planets orbiting it are often divided in multiple 'systems'.

NEAR SOLAR SYSTEM
The areas close to Sol, it's dominated by small rocky planets.

Vulcan (Sol I). A small world that we know to be burning intensely with some of the hottest temperatures in the system. It has no night at all. People don't go there much, but the talk of precious minerals is a growing temptation...

Mercury (Sol II): Known quite derogatorily as "the planet with rocks", it was once associated with the sun before the later Greeks discovered Vulcan. Those days it's mostly a mediocre place, more or less. Just a lot of rocks. That and a fairly warm climate.

Venus (Sol III): A tropical world, the local bird-like Venutians are generally hospitable to visitors. The atmosphere is thicker than on Earth, so Earthlings may find themselves heady and dazed as they acclimate. The local human settlements seem matriarchal.

Earth (Sol IIT): Ah, home! Even as humanity terraforms other planets, there's nothing as good as home, for the time being.

Asteria (Sol IV): The home of the "counter-humans" (or the nahums, as they call themselves). They are as always, Earth's sworn rival.

Mars (Sol V): The "Red Planet", it was notably the first planet colonised by both humans and nahums. The two have reconciled recently under the principles of the Communist Manifesto. Just don't ask if the person who wrote it was Karl Marx or Rowen Obert, that'll get people shouting.

Theia (Sol VI): The "lost planet". Ancient astronomers discovered it and wrote extensively about it, but then it just... disappeared. Renaissance astronomers dismissed it as a myth, but then the broken planet parts were found in the 2020s. Project Theia, an ambitious project to rebuild Theia, is a-go!

Latona (Sol VII): Fairly recently classified as a planet by planetary standards, it's more than anything a hub for people to stop by before they go to the Middle Solar System from Earth or Asteria. Known for its gastropubs, oddly enough.

Vesta (Sol VIII): In the Asteroid Belt, Vesta stands out as the largest object, and undeniably a planet in its own right, although a 'veiled' one. It is the base of the Concord of Nations Mandate of the Asteroid Belt, established to ensure that mining in the Belt could be regulated.

MIDDLE SOLAR SYSTEM
From here to Nemesis, it's a domain of gas giants and small planetoids, with Neptune the freak exception.

Jupiter (Sol IX): The ninth planet, and the first of the Middle Solar System. It is a gas giant with many moons orbiting it. It is those such moons that are jealously seized by overzealous humans and nahums in a renewed zeal for imperialism. Have anyone asked the locals? Seems not.

Saturn (Sol X): The tenth planet, and the one with the ring everyone knows. In the ring are such moons that have increasingly become the newest clamour due to their exotic nature. I hear Britain is trying to organise a new Castreleon Conference to divide it all up. Will people listen? Especially the nahums...

Uranus (Sol XI): The eleventh planet, and I hear its moons are more sought after by companies than by governments. Something about some of their more relaxant or psychedelic atmospheres? I hear the Fair Folk are there too, though...

Neptune (Sol XII): A water planet that staggered people with its size. It holds the majority of water in the entire system. The Calamari are originally Neptunians, and we're trying to find their relatives there. But the British Further Stellar Company is pushing for the Company to own Neptune...

Orcus (Sol XIII): As the first gas giants pass us by, we approach the realm of the midgets. Orcus is by far the most fabled of the further planets, with many orcs going back into prehistory talking of a place among the stars just for them, and it was named by an orc astronomer. Orc settlement is growing.

Pluto (Sol XIIT): The theteenth planet, it is by far a British possession and home of the British Further Stellar Company. The local Plutoids, a bunch of cheerful bespectacled yellow-skinned... things, seem to be happy enough with it. In fact, they want to be, in their own word, 'minions' to the Empire.

Haumea (Sol XIV): Loosely claimed by Canada and Australia, the two often squabble over who has the rightful claim. Really, it's this far that control becomes theoretical. The British control of Pluto is because of the Plutoids' strange enthusiasm, and apart from that control breaks down after Neptune.

Quaoar (Sol XV): Loosely claimed by France and Germany. The place is known for being cold.

Makemake (Sol XVI): A bunch of competing claims here because it's known as an "oasis planet", with the geology regularly keeping it warm.

Gonggong (Sol XVII): The many competing claims here are all from the countries that claim to be China. And their Asteria equivalent Nachi. Yes.

Eris (Sol XVIII): Often debated on if it's a planet with many moons or a collection of asteroids, it's nevertheless claimed by Tawantinsuyu.

Sedna (Sol XIX): The furthest reliable planet in the Main Solar System, and claimed by Magnallem, aka Counter-Germany, since a couple of years ago.

Veritas (Sol XX): This planet has for time and time eluded humanity and nahumity, with countless discoveries made naught by disappearance. It has gone by many names, but the one that humanity and nahumity uses now is the name of the elusive Roman goddess of truth.

FURTHER SOLAR SYSTEM
At this point it's more accurately called the Nemesial System, but Nemesis revolves the Sun, so this is still part of the wider System

Nemesis (Sol XXI?): A sun? Seems like it, but the arguments between sun and planet is rife. The current consensus is sun, but there's plenty of historical textbooks that call it a planet or a sun-planet (such a category does not exist in science). It lacks any Dyson Sphere remnants like Sol.

Diana (Nemesis I (Sol XXI/XXII?)): The first planet orbiting Nemesis, it is a very hot planet, often labelled the second Vulcan.

Arrakis (Nemesis II (Sol XXII/XXIII?)): The second planet orbiting Nemesis, it is a quite dry planet, from what people can work out about it. Apparently peopled by a primitive insect civilisation (the Arrakes), from what we know from the GU.

Kamino (Nemesis III (Sol XXIII/XXIIT?)): The third planet orbiting Nemesis, it appears to be a water-dominated planet that the Galactic Union says has sapient life called the Kaminoans. This is the first planet that neither humanity nor nahumity discovered, but was informed by the galactic government.

Demeter (Nemesis IIT (Sol XXIIT/XXIV?)): The thetath planet orbiting Nemesis, it is noted as a very fertile planet with zero sapient life, and is by far the planet humans and nahums are eager to get to. There's currently a ship heading there now from Earth, and Asteria is prepping theirs too.

Calliope (Nemesis IV (Sol XXIV/XXV?)): The fourth planet orbiting Nemesis. A more temperate planet compared to the undying abundance of Demeter, it is nevertheless one that has become the most popular one in pop culture and the arts, mostly as a distant love. The Merfolk love this planet.

Ambrosia (Nemesis V (Sol XXV/XXVI?)): The strangest planet in the entire Solar System by far, this fifth planet of Nemesis has been described in many ways, "decored", "holed", even "an abomination to God and men". What we know is that it is a toroid planet, a 'donut' one if you will.

Asteroid Belt: Unlike the Main Solar System, this one has no planets known of.

Guanyin (Nemesis VI (Sol XXVI/XXVII?): The sixth planet is a gas giant, but one with plentiful moons, each known to be strangely habitable even this far from Nemesis. The Galactic Union often notes that the people of Kamino and Arrakis often consider Guanyin to be a 'calming presence'.

Tartarus (Nemesis VII (Sol XXVII/XXVIII?): The final planet in the solar system is a dark one, filled with storms and thick clouds preventing light from reaching the geologically-destructive surface. It is not a planet to visit, that's for sure.

The generally accepted number of planets with most people is 30. You exempt Nemesis for it is a sun, and you don't acknowledge the secret number of theta prime, for it is only known by GDI and various interlopers. Earth is known as the fourth planet by normal people.

Acadia is often thought of as "a poorer, shittier Quebec" by Canadians from other provinces. Especially those from Quebec. The local Acadiens have a strong local identity, and when Quebec turned to the Bloc Québécois in the 1990s, this triggered a local Acadien response. Unlike the more city-based Bloc, the Voix de l'Acadie was firmly rural and conservative in all but its strong regionalist and souverainist sentiment.

In the end after two terms of VdlA government was replaced by a long Liberal dominance, the Progressive Conservatives made what some decried as the "crossing of the Rubicon" in the 2020s and announced a merger with VdlA as the Alliance des Électeurs Acadiens, a conservative and firmly regionalist party, albeit quietly dropping the souverainism. Fusing the PCs' historical ability to break through Liberal city constituencies and VdlA's rural dominance led to AÉA easily winning the 2029 election with popular leader Jean-Marie Planque.

Unfortunately Planque died of a heart attack in 2032, necessitating a new Premier. The elder PC statesman chosen to be the interim Premier struck quickly and managed to use his office to persuade the AÉA deputies to vote for him as permanent leader. André Garçon was keenly aware of the shaky hold he had on his job, and leaned into Acadienist rhetoric to shore up the ex-VdlA support and implemented fiscal conservative policies to win over PC supporters.

2034 was an easy win against a disunited Liberal Party even as the Greens nabbed a seat in Miramichi due to local concerns over ocean levels. However, the Acadien economy went into a slump in 2037 much to the frustration of the Premier. Never mind, he would end the slump. The people trusted him. He was the white-haired captain at the helm, the one who knew the tides and turns of the sea. He would navigate Acadia's way out.

By the next election in 2039, it was quite clear that he delivered on that such promise. Acadia's economy was now back, surprising many who expected the province to languish longer. However, 2034 was still an easy win and it was always a high order to presume 2039 would be the same. The Premier knew his opposition licked their wounds and were bouncing back. Dismissing some in his cabinet who suggested he run a laidback campaign, he chose to fight the campaign as if he was twenty points behind and the ship was leaking holes everywhere.

Perhaps he shouldn't have bothered. The polls changed little over the campaign no matter what anyone did, AÉA was always leading comfortably (even if by a reduced margin), and the two seats the Liberals gained on election night were always the most marginal. The election night projection of a renewed majority for Alliance des Électeurs Acadiens was known months before, and many called it the most boring election night in Acadia's history.

The Premier just ignored all such nonsense and returned to work.

Portugal is the bastion of the Atlantoid race, the superior Luso-Atlantoid specimens, highest of the Atlantoids, which are in turn highest of the Europids, which are in turn the highest of all races of humanity. Portugal may be trodden on, she may be ignored, she may be exploited, but she has her racial superiority and national greatness to cling on to. Portugal is inherently great, and all we have to do is discover greatness within ourselves and reject foreign ideas cooked up by lesser races.

The Luso-Atlantoids are not of any class. They are workers. They are bosses. They are Portuguese above all (and Galician, we’ll get that back). Marx was a Teuton. His ideas are foreign to Luso-Atlantoid society. There must be a Portuguese Socialism, a Lusocialismo, one shaped by Portugese ideas and the peak of the intelligence of the superior Luso-Atlantoid specimens. And who better than… a mixed-race bastard from Lisbon?

Certainly, Joel Ambrósio Pinheiro is a strange beast indeed for such a task. A result of an indiscretion between a drunk noble and a mixed-race maid, he was thrown into a distant cousin’s residence since an early age as a result of his father disliking him. Since this age, Pinheiro has been engulfed with this quiet rage at his own creation, and a desire to deny, no, change reality. He is not a mulatto, he is a Luso-Atlantoid, of the very same race that created greats such as Sebastian and Henry the Navigator.

Climbing up from being the outcast, he immediately realised that the way to advancement was quite simple – knowledge. Consuming as much literature as possible like a hungry and thirsty man upon discovering a feast in an oasis, he was immediately enamoured by the idea of the Atlanteans, the people that once peopled a place in the Atlantic. Where did they go? Pinheiro concluded that they must have become the Portuguese, and other ‘Atlantic’ people like the English and Celts.

Going from the strange ‘swarthy’ child in a noble estate to a barely-respected lawyer took every effort, and that struggle shaped him and instilled in him a dislike for Portuguese society as it existed. It, he came to believe, was riddled with foreign ideas. The Luso-Atlantoid people were struggling under foreign ideas, foreign systems. It needed a renewal. The Socialist Party was a bunch of deeply strange individuals, and he naturally drifted to it as part of his labour as a lawyer for ‘the people’.

It is with the Socialist Party that he developed his more political ideas. Portugal needed Portuguese Socialism (Lusocialismo?), shaped by Luso-Atlantoids and for Luso-Atlantoids. A racial consciousness, a rejection of Teutonic ideas pushed by Marx and his lackeys, and one that promotes true equality between the sexes. All foreign ideas should be shed, and workers organise into a great national workers’ state.

It is quite peculiar that Pinheiro was publicly neutral on the monarchy question. As he put it – “Portugal could have been great with the King, and it could be great with the President. Nothing has changed. It is still the same Portugal, with the same racial potential.” Of course, there’s mutters that he was privately more sympathetic with Manuel as part of Manuel’s cooperation with the Socialists, but all that’s in the past.

As a middling-level Socialist politician and average lawyer, he is currently writing his first book – Conclusions on the Heritage of the Portuguese People, where he aims to elaborate on his idea of the racial classification of the Portuguese people, the Luso-Atlantoid race.
The Catholic Church: “The Catholic Church is at once at the heart and anathema to the Portuguese people. It has grown to be a great conduct and comfort to Portuguese society, but it is also controlled by a foreign head, an Italian to be exact. How can we expect Italians to understand Portuguese experiences and beliefs? Indeed, what I would do, is copy our Atlantoid brethren in the United Kingdom, and create a church based on Portuguese experiences, a Lusitanian Church, so to speak. It would preserve many of the Catholic beliefs we take comfort in, but reject control of Rome.”

Labour: “Labour makes this country strong. What is our culture ultimately but the working-class manifest? And how can we stand by and watch our fellow Portuguese suffer in indignity for the sake of what the Teutons call profit? No, I reject such filthy ideas likely coined by Germans. Let us care for our people and serve them as much as we can. Is this not the point of the Republic?”

Suffrage: “Of course I support women and the illiterate being able to vote! What sort of idiot would argue otherwise?”

Ultramar: “The Ultramar is an expression of Luso-Atlantoid racial supremacy over the indigenous people. We should seek to abolish the tribal authorities, for acknowledging they exist is inherently acknowledging the indigenous as equal to the Luso-Atlantoid, and this must not stand. Do not grant civil rights. Instead, we must seek to ‘water’ down their backwards descent with good settlers. A good Luso-Atlantoid’s descent outshines that of an indigenous, and their child will take after the Luso-Atlantoid. If that child has a child with a Luso-Atlantoid, that child will be perfectly Luso-Atlantoid! It is through this process that we will transform the Ultramar.”

The United Kingdom: “Anyone who argues that we should work with the Teuton should have their head examined. The Teuton yearns for our colonies, like a barbarian yearns to control cities or a dog yearns to have a bone. They are mindlessly martial and savage, like the backwards Slav, and we should have nothing to do with either of them! Britain on the other hand, shows that even lesser variants of the Atlantoid race can still shine its dominance over the world! It is with them that our blood is with. The memory of old Atlantis rests with them as it does with us, and it is on us to repair our relationship with them at once!”
