Certainly sounds very up my street.

Though Nu descendant un escalier is definitely Cubist rather than Surrealist. Admittedly I can see how that could still provide strange dreamlike imagery, but still.

Can totally recommend the book, and I agree heartily with Spanish's review.

What's really great is that Mieville, unlike some writers I could mention (cough cough League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), leaves an index in the back of all the art he referenced so you can get a deeper understanding of what he's talking about.
