In the early 1600s, Russia underwent a crisis of succession - the end of the Rurikid dynasty, hastened by Ivan IV at least allegedly committing filicide, led to a period of instability known as the Time of Troubles. Part of this time saw the Polish-backed pretender known as the First False Dmitri take the throne, while a later period saw Polish King Władysław IV take the throne before the Poles were expelled from Russia.
What if the Poles remained in charge? Suppose that the efforts of Minin and Pozharsky to expel them from Moscow never took off, and they managed to entrench themselves. What would be the ramifications of Russia being incorporated into Poland, or perhaps merely a Polish puppet state? What would the effects on Polish domestic politics and foreign relations be?
