During the 2020 primaries, there were rumors that Sanders wanted Elizabeth Warren to be both Vice President and Secretary of the Treasury. Back in 1996, Senator Warren Rudman encouraged Bob Dole to offer Colin Powell a joint position of VP and Secretary of State. Of course, neither of those possibilities came to fruition. Can we think of any other examples of this being proposed?
 
John Kerry offered McCain VP, Secretary of Defense and IIRC some vaguely defined VP competence over the whole of foreign policy to try to lure him onto the ticket.

McCain said in response to this that Kerry was out of his mind and that he was doubtful it was constitutional, which is a decent commentary on all of these proposals really.
