Early polling in 1992 showed that Perot was taking votes overwhelmingly from Bill Clinton.

I think a cursory look at the polling suggests precisely the opposite. Clinton was firmly in the doldrums until Perot pulled out, and it was Bush who suffered as Perot went up.

A lot of - perhaps most - intended Perot voters in this period might, as change-minded voters, have had Clinton as second preference, but in terms of voter origin I think the rise of Perot's first candidacy was mainly about detaching disaffected Bush-intended voters, while building on a bedrock of independents, who we know were more likely than others to back Perot both in the spring and November. Very dubious about Perot 'overwhelmingly' taking votes from anyone in any period.

Don't think I've posted this here yet. I did a little tinkering in DRA a bit ago to map out an 8 district Colorado. (This was like a week before the primary which is why Tipton is still there; Boebert would be in the new 6th district though) The original goals were to 1) make a Hispanic majority district in Denver, and 2) make the 3rd district more Pueblo and southern-Colorado focused and also a tossup. The Hispanic majority district is the 8th and ended up being Hispanic majority by total population but not by voter population, and the 3rd district is a tossup but only by being gerrymandered to include all the D-leaning areas of Colorado Springs. The total partisan lean is 3 D, 3 tossup, 2 R, which seems about right.

The 1997 Bahia Grandean consular election was held on 4 September 1997 to elect the Consul of Bahia Grande for a term of four years. The election was the second held under the Bahian negative voting system, which allowed voters to cast votes both for and against candidates. It was contested between the three previous Consuls of Bahia Grande, incumbent Valentino Tanaka of the Democratic Reform Party, his predecessor Julio Cesar Batista Cruz of the Cuatro Juramentos Party, and their predecessor Anamaria Iskander Ruiz, formerly of the PRD but running with her new party SINERGIA.

The negative voting system was proposed in the 1970s and 80s after a series of elections where Consuls were elected with narrow pluralities of the popular vote. The PRD adopted the negative voting policy as part of its platform as a proposed means of rectifying this problem. The PCJ, which had benefited from these close elections, opposed the idea. However, President Batista was forced to enact the policy when the PRD won an outright majority in the 1990 Senate elections and passed the policy into law. Batista was defeated in the subsequent election by Valentino Tanaka, who won by his own plurality of the positive vote and an overwhelming negative vote for Batista.

However, Tanaka did not enjoy popularity for long. He inherited a labor crisis from Batista, who had delayed negotiations with the railroad workers unions. Tanaka's mismanagement of the negotiations led to a strike which crippled the nation. Additionally, trade disputes with neighboring countries led to tariffs being imposed by those countries on Bahian products, which hurt the farmers that typically made up the PRD's base. By 1997, former president Anamaria Iskander Ruiz was privately informing party members of her desire to replace Tanaka as the party's consular candidate. Tanaka blocked these efforts thanks to his allies in the leadership. In response, Iskander announced the formation of a new party consisting of PRD rebels.

Meanwhile, former President Batista had been reselected by the PCJ. He believed his loss in the previous election was primarily due to his opposition to the negative vote. Unlike other PCJ members who actively sought to repeal the reform, Batista accepted it and promised to protect it once in office. He further hoped to capitalize on Tanaka's unpopularity. The election campaign lasted through the month of August. Iskander and Batista were assumed to be in a dead heat, with Tanaka far behind. On election day, Iskander outpaced Batista in the positive vote due to a collapse in support from the PCJ's traditional base in the East Bay, while Batista also took large hits in the negative vote. The former was ascribed to a surprising split from the PCJ to SINERGIA because Iskander was no longer associated with the deeply hated PRD, while the latter was attributed to the scandal surrounding Batista's brother's dealings with the National Energy Commission. Just as in 1993, the negative vote exceeded the positive vote, this time by nearly 50%. As the only candidate who had a positive net vote, Iskander won the election immediately and became Consul for the second time on All Saints Day, 1 November.

Hold on. Plaid gets 13.6%? That should get them like, every Welsh seat and perhaps some of the seats on the border lmao.

My head canon is that the entirety of Hong Kong has moved to Anglesey and become fanatically loyal to the welsh nationalist government who made it possible. Which is also why they get no seats because there was some bizarre gerrymandering set up to avoid them outvoting the now outnumbered welsh people.

It explains why the total votes have dropped by 7 million over the 17 years indicating a falling population and lower political engagement even outside the loss of Scotland but the welsh nationalist vote has increased to more than double the entire welsh vote of otl 2019 and more than the entire current population in wales.
