Year three of them "not being the Party of Rin Tin Tin anymore," let's look at the two biggest accomplishments of President Johnson

transbinary development

This is a fun alternative terminology for the Internet, even if I did have to read that entry twice before I realised that it wasn't about gender issues.

Vaguely worried by the implication that British Israelism is a relevant force.

Frere Godfrei de Santclair’s Writings
on the Deuelopmentes of the Realmes of
His Majestie the Roi of Anglond and of France
In the yeer of the Lord One Thousend and Six Hundred

Wae, wae be on those realmes dual. Let me recount the injuries dealt to the misfortunate people of the realmes… First we have had a sanguinolent 'flowre-war' as the lineages of the rois Plantagenet turn on each other in a wish to wear the coroune, even if they be kinslayers.

Then as many bodies lie mouldering, the roi declares the Pope has no autorite in his realmes, citing many alleged ‘transgressions’ of the Pope. This has outraged many subgets of good thought and the realmes dual have plonged into a second war of brothers, this time one of the spirite, not one of ambitions temporel.

Let vs couer the Court Royal

His Majestie the Roi: If I was a man less inclined to God’s forgiueness, I would call for the roi to be sent to the seven helles, for he has rejected the autorite of the Pope, the Pontifex Supreme of Rome, and has deemed his own views to be the guiding one of the realmes dual. He may be ruler by God’s grace, but it is only that, God’s grace!

Vpon his subgets turning on him the roi did not have the boon grace to realise his grieuous sin, and has instede declared that since he rules by God’s fauour, any who dispute his declaration goes against God. An euen more grieuous sin! This roi is a heretique vnrepentant and the sooner he is gon, the bettre for all of vs!

The ‘Communion Angeuine’: The roi’s heresie. It distresses me to see many priestes shed their loyaltie to the Pope and to the true Godlie Church in fauor of temporel gains with a roi heretique. The true church vniuersel is increasingly shunned by men who should haue been of more secure minds. But the madness of the flowre war has destroied all traces of sanite or loyaltie in the realmes dual, it semes.

The rotte was alreadie there in France with their priestes alleging the Pope only has autorite spirituel, but the roi, the roi has taken it to a new leuel. The daughtres of the Church must be brought back into the fold, otherwise we are condemned.

The Prince of Wales: It is the gretest tragedie that such a respectabel yong man was turned astray by the one person he trusted the most, his own father. He now fights for the heresie and against the true Church. It is to be hoped that he sees the light and turn once more before he is cast out in righteous Papal fury against this wretched heresie, and take over the Plantagent trones from his euil father. As euerie daie passes, the hope growes fader and fader...

The Duc of Nauarre: What can I write about this terribel man? Only that he is of the most slimie and dishoneste sort to walk on this lond, the vilest of the vile, the ones who say one thing on the left of their mouthes and another on the right. He is a politique. Deuoid of any principel, any faith, any bearing but that of desire of power.

The Counte of Courtenay: He may be a Capet like his more estimed relatiues, but he has decided to aline with the accursed roi, who has pledged him the duche of Orleans in exchange. Ambitiones temporel ouershadow faith spirituel once again. May God curse him with barren seed!

Let vs couer the True Catholiques, of which I am proudly one...

The Duc of Burgundie: May God bless the Duc of Burgundie with many children and grandchildren! Out of the many nobles of the realme of France, he is by far the most loyal to the true Church in Rome and has declared that he will wear the ‘armoure of God’ and slay the roi heretique. Truly a man of God.

The Dauphin of Viennois: The heir to the Capet line, the former rois of France before the Angeuines took the coroune. His armies are not as numerous as his father’s was due to his father’s failed attempt at intervening in the Flowre-War for his claim to the trone. It is belieued that the current Dauphin still wishes for the trone French, and has reached out to the Pope for his backing in exchange for it. What a wretched man, one should join God's cause with all your core, and not seke benefit first!

His Holiness the Pope: Confronted with the absence of ordre in the realmes dual and the rise of the Angeuin heresie, the Pope semes to have taken an aggressiue stance. Excommunicating the roi was the correct act, for the roi is a heretique vnrepentant. However, he has not extended that excommunication to the famille royal, deming that there are still faithful Plantagents. It remains to be sene if there is any faithful Plantagenets left…

The Duc of Northumberlond: The latest scion of the venerable Percy lineage is a firm religious man and a firm belieuer in the supremacy of the pope ouer all materes temporel and spirituel. He has vocally condemned the roi’s turn to heresie and has pledged to turn the paisants’ rising in his lands into a true army, alining himself to the pilgrimage of grace. He is a man of the people and a man of faith. May this faithful man be abound with blessings!

The Pilgrimage of Grace: Many haue said that the paisants of the realmes just follow their masters, but the Pilgrimage of Grace is one suche to the contrarie, as the duc of Northumberlond was more cautious than his subgets which were outraged by the roi’s heresie and rose up in rebellioun for the true Church. The paisantry of Northumberlond and of elsewhere in Anglond are true seruants of God. Euen if they are slewed by the heretiques, they shall assuredlie go to Heauen.

And finallie, let vs couer the Protestants.

The Parliament of Anglond: Once this was a respectabel chambre aiding the roi in his duties before those times. But it has been overtaken by radical Protestants like the Puritens. The Puritens! How they deny clere facts and declare such thoughts heretique! They all shall burn in the seven helles!

Now, they are correct in the rejection of the roi’s heresie, but for the wrong resouns! They declare that his fusioun of church and state shows that he is a tyrant and hence with the centuries of dynastique warring they have declared a ‘republique’. How can one gouern without a roi? Madness! Euen more madde than the roi!

‘The Estates General of France’: The alleged estates-general is in fact composed only of the third estate and the Protestant rumpe of the second and they haue declared that the time of ‘Anglish rule of France’ shall end and the roi’s ‘communion angeuine’ is the final and most terribel blow to France which they cannot stand for.

They haue not been as touched by fits of madness as the Parliament, but they haue declared that they shall, in defiance of any legalite, act as ‘regent’ for the troune which they now say is vacant with the roi abdicating as a result of his heresie. There are murmurs that the Dauphin is in contact with them, but the Dauphin is still catholique and loyal to the Pope at the end of the daie, not entertaining the Huguenot idees of the Estates General. Surelie?

I really, really like this, but I am underinformed about medieval history and the history of the Angevins in particular 😓

The old "u and v" writing conventions being kept ITTL is very inspired, and frankly speaking I have high hopes for the Roi and the righteous Protestants 🤘

Institutions of the Atlantic Church

The Bosnydelphia Corridor was a religiously diverse region even before the Deluge, and this diversity was only exacerbated as groups became more insular as the world collapsed. The leaders of the Thalassocracies however sought to foster interfaith relations by forming a Council. As time went by, the Atlantic “Church” as the melting pot of faiths was called began to be referred to as a collective unit; this doesn’t mean they don’t disagree, mind.

Atlantic Catholic Church: The Catholics are the most significant prepartum religious denomination of the Corridor, and one with much political cachet owing to its historical influence on the region. This influence can be traced back to a Papal Bull just before the Deluge that relegated priestly selection to regional bishops. This led to the Archbishop of New York becoming de facto head of the “Atlantic Catholic Church”, much to Boston’s chagrin.
  • Knights of Columbus: The Republics and Counties of the Connecticut Valley are home to a militant branch of the Atlantic Church, that has a tenuous relationship with the mother church. This of course is mostly due to secular concerns, the people of the Valley do not wish to be under New York’s thumb, temporally or Spiritually.

Atlantic Protestants: It’s rather reductive to talk about the Protestants of the Corrior, but to do the various sects justice would be a much longer list than I wish to write. Needless to say there are many different Mainline, Presbyterian, and Methodist Denominations, with a fair amount of Ecumenism; there is however one uninvited denomination the…
  • Old North Church-based Church of America in Boston is a testament to the syncretic nature of the religious communities of the Corridor, practicing a theology more akin to the Patriotic Folklorists: Americans were Providence’s Chosen People, the Constitution was divinely inspired, and Washington ascended to Heaven instead of dying.

Folklorists:
Jersey Devil:
The Jersey Devil is a creature said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of New Jersey; he is said to be a thirteenth child, cursed by his own mother to be a devil. In postpartum New Jersey, he has become seen as a Protector Spirit, and many shrines to him dot the backwoods of the Garden State.
Lovecraftians: The Lovecraftians of Providence are an odd bunch, occultists who believe the Old World was destroyed by the Elder Gods their namesake told of. They thus have become users of Ancient Magicks to keep the Elder Gods at bay, and many people travel from far and wide to learn these secrets at the Providence Library
Lady Liberty: The Church of Columbia, Our Lady of Liberty is a Folklorist Group of the Patriotic School found primarily in the Republic of New York. They are a notably feminist creed, given their entire priesthood is female led. Pilgrims from all down the Eastern Seaboard come each year to kiss the feet of the Shrine the Church maintains in New York Harbor.
Liberty Bell: The Church of the Liberty Bell of Philadelphia is in many ways like the Columbians, but the other side of the coin. Their priests are entirely male, and generally lean more conservative than their cousins, but they are also more militant [as militant as an Atlantic Creed can be] Let Freedom Ring!
Cult of Colt: The Cult of Colt is a Tech Folklorist faith based in Connecticut that despite the name is dedicated to all firearms, which they believe were granted to man to make them equal. They believe that tinkering and other such mechanical arts are the way to the divine, and thus makes them invaluable in technological art.
Imperial Tower: The Empire State Building is not the tallest of the towers in New York, but its undamaged façade has impressed many since the Deluge. In the postpartum world, it has become home to a group of Tech Folklorists who revere the Sky-Scrapers of the Old World, who construct towers of their own to emulate them.

Jews:
Haredi:
While New York City was not the only place in America with a Haredi population, its cosmopolitan nature has meant the Jews of the City and Leykvaud have enjoyed a safety their fellows in Kiryas Joel or Kiryas Tosh have not. The yeshivas of New York have become centers for haredi thought and its Shomrim are often sent to defend the enclaves outside the Corridor.
Reform: This is not to say that Haredi thought dominates the Jewish Community of the Corridor, the Reform Jews are also a notable grouping, especially in Philadelphia; the most prominent being Congregation Mikveh Israel, a Sephardi Esnoga.

Liberal Theologies:
Unitarian Universalists:
The Liberal Theology of the Unitarian Universalists of Boston is considered by many in the Corridor to be the main reason for the tolerance of the Atlantic Church. As such, the UUs enjoy an outsized influence as the primary mediators of religious disputes in the Church.
Quakers: While some of the members of the Society of Friends based in Philadelphia fall into one of the religions listed above, they do not necessarily fit into any one box. The Quakers profess nonviolence and occupy a similar place as the Unitarian Universalists as mediators

Non-Religious Organizations:
Ivy League:
The Ivy League is a series of Universities that are run by a fraternal order of teachers. They are not something that would be considered a faith outside of the Corridor, except for a small minority that preach that the search for knowledge itself is sacred.
Coast Guard: During the Deluge, the Guardsmen of the Coast Guard were left to their own devices, and in the intervening generations, they have organized themselves into a hierarchy akin to their prepartum organization dedicating to keeping the trade routes safe. Led by an Admiral, the Ships of the Coast Guard are the largest nongovernmental fleet in the Corridor

Masons:
Masonic Lodge:
The Masons are one of the oldest fraternal organizations in America, dating [so they claim] to ancient times. They defy classification in any other system, the Masons are the Masons, many of its members were members of other churches, but their cosmic geometric beliefs remind of the folklorists. Nonetheless they are an institution in the Republic of Boston, and woe betide whosoever angers the Brahmins, lest you disappear…

Oh I know this one! 10A!

Rando list because I haven't done one for a while. Vaguely inspired by a scenario someone outlined on the other place once about the Granita blowing up during Brown and Blair's fateful meeting, though that needn't be the same POD here. Basically the point is some rather unlikely leadership election outcomes as judged based on the preconceptions of OTL, but caused by different trends (for example, a smaller pool of Labour leadership hopefuls and Scottish Labour being a larger portion of the whole).

Labour: Lorna Fitzsimons is the first person in 8 years to have a decisive majority of about 20 seats so that’s something. With a manifesto filled with Soft Left goodies (Rail Renationalisation, Greening the Economy, CoOp stuff, start a convention on adopting a Federal model for Britain etc). Though it’s been said that much of this may have to do with the slow motion rise of the Left and Nationalism in Britain as indicated by the surprising performance of Tess Kingham in 2017 and the creeping poll numbers of the Bennett-Pashby Greens amongst the Young has caused some concern in Labour.

Oh also some weirdos in the party keep on saying things about Jews and trans people. I’m sure it’ll be sorted and nothing bad will happen...

Conservative: Owen Paterson whilst soothing the Eurosceptics wasn’t the best Prime Minister who got in through atrophy. Wasting his wad and majority on a Brexit referendum whilst more or less causing UKIP to melt into slurry, didn’t do help the issues in his own party. Now Ellison is leader but Sandy’s keeps on mentioning how she’s going to continue Ainsworth’s legacy (and maybe the first Tory defection to the Greens at this rate) whilst the Eurosceptics are bidding there time and considering on ousting Ellison within in time.

So the Tory’s are back to there usual I guess.

Liberal Democrat: Daisy Cooper is kind of the plutonic ideal for a Lib Dem leader, Pro-Europe, Socially Liberal and enough of an Anti-Establishment figure to keep the base happy. Mainly is trying to get a convention of Marijuana Decriminalisation started with Fitzsimons and a possible Green-Lib Dem alliance for PR for the next election which is causing fireworks to happen again.

Oh also Jason Zadrozny is sitting as an independent, still in his strop over that whole deselection debacle and all that.

UKIP: The party has had a slight kick up the arse since the Brexit Referendum when squiffy for the Tories though there’s an argument over where next. The Bannerman followers want to draft Zadrozny as there MP and leadership candidate, whilst Knaperman followers want to try and get a Tory to defect and really it’s likely the party will have a split by the next election...

604th Gathering of the Kingdom of the Dwarves: The Year of Saban's Revolt

Government

King Arsen V
: Estranged from his only son, scorned by his wives, and reliant on various narcotics and depressants to function daily, over the past two years Arsen Blazingswordinafield has removed himself from political life to drown in a sea of aimless hedonism, much to the consternation of his partisans. Harsh lèse-majesté laws prevent widespread information about his condition, but the people hold him in contempt nevertheless. There have been brief musings from various corners about forcing his abdication, but the aristocracy fear his son far more than they could ever despise him.

Party of Friends: The latest incarnation of the old King's Party, these stalwarts of Dwarvish nobility are united by inertia and profess few ideals other than their opposition to all threats against the Crown, the ruling houses, and the myriad taboos on trade, intermarriage, and various other social interactions between classes that define Dwarvish society. Their slogan is: "One thousand years, one thousand more." For centuries they were the only political force in the Kingdom worth mentioning, but the hated reforms of Liudemul Fistclenchingabloodclot forced them to share nominal authority with the other estates, opening the gates to all manner of demagoguery, and now the social order they were charged to protect is under assault from all sides.

Just as the throne once did, party leadership rotates between the different houses, which can be a source of both friction and cooperation: the Chief Councilor may be your cousin-in-law, but he is also your business competitor, and his ancestors were responsible for the mass slaughter of your ancestors four hundred years ago in a valley whose name has been burned into your memory from youth. Such blood feuds have become officially taboo themselves in the modern era, of course, but family grievances are not an easy thing to let go of, and too often political backstabbing can transition to the real thing. The Friends are currently led by Borna Snakethatisalsothunder, a giant of a dwarf whose star has been rising ever since his sister married the king.

Soldiers of the Sacred Flame: Ever since certain segments of Dwarvish society banded together to deny the first estate their rightful majority in the Gathering, they've had to rely on this band of headcrushers to shore up their parliamentary position and maintain fear among the commoners. Half-mystery cult, half-militia with an obscure ideology attached, the Flameshanks (so called for their distinctively-painted greaves) claim a legacy of ancient Dwarvish warriorship and heroic self-sacrifice that in practice seems to mean brutalizing peasants and anyone they deem "degenerative towards the historical destiny of the Dwarvish people". The Flame's ranks are mostly filled with young minor nobles and ex-bandits and robber barons, supplemented by graduates of the Royal Army. Though they've lost some credibility in recent years for their fanatical veneration of the current king, their core of support remains unchanged. Their commander and high priest is Vas of Olodion, who claims descent from an ancient line of kings but is actually the son of a pepperer from aforementioned city.

Opposition

The Mountain and the Plain
: Here is the greatest fear of the first estate manifested — the peasants of the mountains and the peasants of the plains have formed an alliance, sealed in blood through marriages between the families of village headmen, to prosecute their campaign for an end to the debt bondage that has replaced traditional serfdom in most of the nation. While in any democratic system in a nation whose economy is 83% agricultural this coalition would win an overwhelming mandate, the Kingdom is very much not one. Arcane and obstructionist electoral laws, ruthless intimidation, and the scarcity of polling places conspired to keep the reactionaries in power, but for the first time in history there was a moment where it seemed like they could lose. Even with all the blood and gold spent to stop them, the alliance's parliamentary rump emerged as the largest opposition party, useless as that was. The peasants have been made aware to the power they hold. Their leaders have been disappeared, their families imprisoned and murdered, but the predations of the Flameshanks and the Army have only strengthened their resolve. All they need is a spark: a failed harvest, a harsh winter, a prince's quixotic attempt to seize the throne…

Reform Party: In truth, there is no concrete evidence that Prince Saban is a reformist, until recently he showed no interest in the state of Kingdom at all, but it's this lack of a definable political stance that makes him so attractive to dissenters. The king is a half-lucid imbecile, the houses squabble amongst themselves for increasingly thin slices of the pie, and the peasants sharpen knives. To defend against this chaos, a new party was formed, supported by liberal nobles and the Kingdom's tiny commoner industrialist class. Originally called the Prince's Party, the name was changed to ward off accusations of fomenting a palace coup. Old Domald ThetreethatMarzashangsfrom leads the party in the Gathering, and though the law prevents him for calling for the Prince's immediate coronation you can tell that he is thinking it very hard at all times.

Frontier Party: The three mountainous northeastern provinces of the Kingdom have long been the target of Elvish raids and historically have been both heavily militarized and isolated from central government control. As a result, they've developed a unique political culture based on closely-guarded autonomy and distrust and hatred of Elves. The Army has big pull here, and indeed, all four of the Frontier Party's deputies in the Gathering are veteran officers. Colonel Gencho of Kada leads the party, and is generally allied with the prince's faction.

Unaffiliated: Loyalist headmen, charismatic townsfolk, nobles who have attracted the ire of the houses but haven't been arrested yet — these people will never have any influence over anything but they still draw a salary.

Major Nation-states of Eurasia and their leaders, circa 2081

1. The All-Russian Union
Dominant ideologies: National Bolshevism, Gumilyovism, Contemporary Rodnovery
Leader: Dictator Chelpanov Turgenev

In the news last week because they've canonised the waxy corpse of Putin, instead of hunting the last Siberian Tiger to extinction so the Dear Leader can have its head mounted as a conversation starter. Not many people like the Union, and that's fair, since the Union despises anyone who isn't bloodletting to see whatever future is still in front of them. Plot twist; it's all dark.

2. Holy Chechnya
Dominant ideologies: Islamist-fascism, Basayevist Nationalism, Islamic Orthopraxy, Neo-Wahhabism
Leader: Caliph Sulimbek Avtorxanov (?)

Nobody's actually seen an actual Chechen in years. Border guards near Azerbaijan insist that they've seen a man in triangular black cloaks 'walking in the air' above the burial pits, whatever that's supposed to mean. For such an extremist boogyman, the Chechen's seem to like keeping to themselves. Maybe the rumours are right, that they're busy performing some sort of mega-ritual to bring forth the Second Fall. Bah. Pass the drink, my head is still ringing.

3. The Golden Horde Eternal
Dominant ideologies: "Buddhist" Theocracy, Pan-Mongolianism, Thuzanism
Leader: Lama Thubten

How could you not fall in love with the romanticisation of Genghis Khan, the barbarian who ruled singlehandedly from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Who cares if this new attempt has only just started to claw it's way out of Kalmykia, they're ambitious, you gotta admit!

4. Autonomous Administration of Tibet
Dominant ideologies: Tibetan Nationalism, Agrarian Militancy
Leader: State Administrator Woeten Drakpa

According to state propaganda, the AAT "won" its independence, which I guess is true, seeing as how they essentially fell into a localised government after the Fall. Neither of their larger neighbours had any particular use for it, since the Roof of the World was now pockmarked with eerily smooth semicircle craters. There is growing resentment within the communities as the refugee crisis worsens.

5. New Republic of Free China
Dominant ideologies: Democratic Confederalism, Pluralism
Leader: Chairwoman of the Revolutionary Command Council Lian Xieren

The economic stresses of the Philippine War and President Yimu's botched introduction of "Global Market NuEconomics with Militant Characteristics" finally proved too much for the 'definitely communist' PRC to handle, and the Gutter Revolution made sure it'd be a massacare for both sides. The resulting hole in the global economy wasn't necessarily a great boon for any nation, but their road to utopia has been paved in counterrevolutionary blood for a while now.

6. State of Free Bukhan
Dominant ideologies: Pan-nationalist Humanism, Neo-Ilminism
Leader: "Ku Hee-Ra" (Ki Chi'un, Ka Sun-Yung & Nu Ji-Tae)

Legends still mutter about a problematic family that used to be in charge of this place. Had a girls name. It took over the South too. Keep in mind this was all way before the Fall, so it must've been a lot easier. We don't bother them, they don't bother us, simple. Oh, uh, unless they want coal. It's recommended you don't put up a fight if they want the coal you have, seeing as how many of them are descendants of prisoners of war. No nerve endings to speak of.

7. Andhra Pradesh
Dominant ideologies: Naxalism, Ganapathism, Maoism
Leader: Chariman Mohun Talavalakar

Oh god oh fuck oh fu
