    Civil War, the movie

Really surprised there's no mockbuster. You could've called it Civil Conflict, The Second Civil War, British Civil War, Uncivil Warfare, Civil War: Battle of New York (not filmed on New York or a place that resembles it)....

AH Run-downs, summaries and general gubbins

The Volkmacht ("People's Force") is the term for German military since the Sparticist Revolution. The name was specifically chosen to project strength, which the new Germany initially  lacked and needed to portray internally (so people felt the new government was strong and stable) and...

    Judge Dread Rides Out

A Dredd would likely exist but strip names are important (Mills talks this a lot in Be Pure and Pageturners), would he be as long running and iconic if he was called Dave Knuckle?

    Civil War, the movie

There's a briefly seen map implying clean lines but multiple scenes show a messier thing - one scene has guys in uniform fighting an organised group in ragtag outfits, there's places with their own guards, never clear who the "what kind of Anericans" guy from the trailer is serving with.

    Civil War, the movie

Yeah, you'd have to do a lot of work to get California and Texas allied  and a separate Florida-ruled group, I don't see it as impossible but it would take a lot. Us AH wonks can do that, the film sticks to using that to show an unsettling world of collapsed order and random violence without...

Book Nook: For Want of a Nail

Two chapters of real history told with AH bias? A critique at the end saying "man AH-Sobel's so biased"? That is grand commitment to the bit! It's really, really weird that this is a book everyone in AH knows about but is out of print (see also Back In The USSA). With indie publishing having a...

    Alternate History General Discussion

Matt Mitrovich doing AH on the Cathars: (which also covers the revisionist historical view that the Cathar church may not have actually existed and the crusade against that part of France was a contemporary 'Satanic panic')

Fiction Friction: Pragmatic Adaptations, Part 1

That's a weird missed step for Orient Express there. I've seen the 70s adaptation and the Suchet one, both included that - the Suchet one also adding an adaptation wrinkle, that this Poirot has been around so long, with so many specific moments of moral rage and refusal to bend, that
