full disclaimer I am not satisfied with the plot I wrote up, will probably circle back around and polish it a bit.
Shadow of the Blair Witch (2000), directed and produced by Joe Berlinger and written by Daniel Myrick. starring Jeffrey Donovan, Erica Geerson, Stephen Barker Turner and Kim Director.
In November 1999, tourists and fans of The Blair Witch Project descend on the small town of Burkittsville, Maryland, where the film was set, angering local law enforcement enough to close Black Hills Forest to the public. A group of graduate students (Jeffrey, Stephen, Erica and Kim, a goth who claims she can communicate with spirits, evade patrolling police cars and enter the woods after hearing internet chatter about a secret third camera that was either missed by investigators or deliberately hidden.
While hiking with the aid of a highly-circulated map, they encounter another group at the location of Coffin Rock, entering into a brief standoff after both groups threaten to report the other. A short time later they come across ruins of Rustin Parr's house, despite the map showing it in a different location. After searching the basement and finding nothing, the group make camp, with Jeffery setting up security cameras hoping to at least capture paranormal activity. While investigating a corner the basement alone, however, Jeffery's hears something, but isn't sure what. The group then goads Kim into performing a seance. During the seance, Erica is startled by a pale woman standing just beyond the tree line. The others investigate and what they believe to be the rumoured secret camera, but find it damaged and unable to replay it's footage, putting it down to other amateur filmmakers being busted by the cops.
Later that night, the group is awakened by lights and shouting in the distance. Believing it's a police patrol and not wanting to get caught, the group flee deeper into the woods with limited supplies. Stephen grows angry with Jeffery, who he accuses of drawing him into a scheme for internet fame. As dawn breaks, they attempt to return to their tents, but become lost. Kim becomes increasingly aggravated, claiming to see the woman from yesterday from the corner of her vision. Later that night, briefly thinking they are being chased by something, the group once again come across the second group from Coffin Rock, claiming they have been wandering for five days without a sunrise. Before they move off, one of them warns the group about "the woman in the woods."
The next morning, they awake to find it is still dark outside at 10am and discover large stick figures hanging in nearby trees. Erica sees clumps of her hair tied to one of the figures. Stephen accuses Jeffery of crafting them for more faux paranormal content, and Jeffery snaps the figure with Erica's hair in frustration. Erica suddenly vanishes without a trace. While searching for her, the remaining group think they see the Coffin Rock group and flash their lights to get their attention, but find it's their own tents from the night before. Frightened, they collect their tent and move away, not before somehow coming across the corpses of the Coffin Rock group, tied together in the same macabre pattern claimed in the historical record of the first film.
A rainstorm hits the next day and they begin hearing Erica shouting from somewhere in the woods. Kim, in an increasing state of delirium, suddenly bludgeons Stephen with a large rock, believing they never should have come to the woods and if she kills them now, whatever killed the others will let her go free. Jeffery flees into the woods as Kim chases him, eventually arriving at the Parr house yet again. Fleeing to the basement, Jeffery sees what appears to be himself from days earlier, before he is attacked and stabbed by Kim, who's scream is revealed to be the one that his own camera recorded days earlier in a sort of time paradox. Other disembodied voices are heard as Kim stands over the camera, which she reaches for. An unspecified amount of time later, a seemingly possessed Kim wanders the woods before seeing what appears to be herself and the rest of the group from days earlier in the distance. As the past version of Erica notices her, Kim drops the camera and moves further into the brush as the footage becomes increasingly corrupted until cutting out.

I don't know why, but I simply find the aesthetic of a statist drunkard conservative fat guy with Maori gang ties who also appears in the weirdest places possible just funny.
