"sparking panic in the nearby Saxon regiments" is a phrase that can be copy-pasted way too often.

The low morale is probably excusable once you're trying to prevent the electorate from being occupied for a 5th or 6th time in living memory.
 
Really, far more than World War One, this is a saga of state after state being delivered knock-out blows that should smash them out of the war, and then everyone realising in horror that they're going to be doing it all again next campaigning season.
 
Have they ever had a good performance in any war in the last thousand years?

They were terrific in 1813 in Leipzig.

That came with a bit of bonus for the people they were shooting at really not expecting them to do that.

But seriously, yes, otherwise Saxony would not have remained independent and grown, it's just that when they were reluctant allies, their morale tended not to be great. They did not want to be at either Breitenfeld, so they broke at both.

France and Sweden tended to try and outsource the fighting to others of course. Even if it was a case of their generals and an army of Germans.
