A rundown of [half] of the weird stuff you'll find in A Toasted World
Mermaids, ice people, elves, Muslim Latin Welsh led by a fae changeling,
Steampunk Cumbria, Danelaw, leprechauns in Irish Senate, orcs in Orkney,
Sentient ponies in Shetland, living trains on Sodor,
Pokemon everywhere in Britain but especially Rutland,
A Doggerland Kingdom peopled by Frisians, Esperanto-speaking Moresnet,
Teutonic Order fighting Nazis in Prussia, Muslims in Kingdom of Two Sicilies,
Independent Vorumaa, a drug-dealing avian eldritch abomination in Omsk,
Flying carpets in Agrabah, all hail King Julien of Lemuria!,
Catching Pokemon in four Japans - socialist Empire, post-commie Republic,
Militaristic State and teaboo Dominion, the byzantine governments of the Bartanvi Raj,
Sentient snake people in Nagaland that love afternoon tea,
Catching Pokemon in the British puppet Kingdom of Hawai'i,
Sentient polar bears attacking Alaskan Soviets, Cascadia being this world's Balkans,
Islamic Republic of Shasta, Chinese San Francisco, Lake Cahuilla,
Sasquatches roaming in Saskatchewan, communist Manitoba, surviving Vinland,
Jewish Upstate New York, Portuguese Maine,
Catching Pokemon once more so in New Amsterdam, communist Maryland,
A French-speaking black state in South Mississippi, talkin' chicken in Kentucky,
Lizard people catching flies in Florida,
A Penguin Empire in Antarctica looking worried at shivering Nazis looking for Tsalal ruins,

The Sun being surrounded by a mysterious Dyson Sphere,
Counter-Earth is our perpetual rival!,
Space Nazis on Earth's second Moon, an empty Death Star orbits Saturn,
The air in Neptune's moons gives you cool hallucinations, man!,
Three alien species - one good academic people, one neutral traders,
One evil conquerors that like us somehow,
Lots of magic schools around the world to teach the magically gifted,
While angels and daemons remind us that we know the afterlife [at least vaguely],
The Earth is hollow and full of strange species,
Catgirls and catboys are completely normal sights in busy cities nya!,
The Holy Principality of Equestria sigh at busy Concord of Nations squabbles,
And the Atlanteans mumble about how they should sink back underwater,
Zombis mumble "braaains" in contained spaces,
The Internet is digital and as cool as cyberpunk novels make it out to be,
And ecoterrorists decide that this is all too much for Mother Earth and so blow it all up.

I thought Ruthenia was German?
No. Ruthenia in OTL history was a vague exonym for a certain kind of region in between Poland and Ukraine, but Slavic identity was pretty fluid up until the 20th century for that particular area. In A Toasted World, that area and the people [some of which identify as Rusyn, the Slavic version of Ruthenian, in OTL] develop a distinct identity as Ruthenians thanks to various events. I'm curious, why did you think it was German?

Basically ATL Ruthenia is a country of people who call themselves Rusyn, and they call their home Rus'. Ruthenia is the exonym.

A random comment about ARANYCHA, Lemur Kingdom of, as you can see on the list.

It's a sort of island-y thing off Madagascar, as you can see from this Worlda map I cribbed off someone else and am using as a base for my QBam version. I do plan to credit them when I'm done, don't worry. It's populated by sentient Tamil-speaking lemurs. Yes. Blame the Tamil nationalists for really getting into the idea of Lemuria. Not sure if all Tamils there are sentient lemurs or not. Probably not.

1576576259239.png

And just because I'm stark raving mad, I've decided that "sentient lemurs near Madagascar" obviously means I have to use the actual lemur monarchy in the Madagascar franchise, just relocate them from Madagascar to Aranycha [which I've named after an Anglification of the Tamil word for orange for some reason]. So yes, that means King Julien and his whole party-going crowd is a thing. Stark, stark raving mad...

Anyway, this comment is just because I figured out a possible 'explanation' for why King "Julien" is a thing in A Toasted World when all lemurs speak Tamil, not French, and so do not have the native name "Julien". Thankfully I figured out a solution, it's a Frenchification of the royal name Jwalia and the Lemur Kings of Aranycha have been referred to as "King Julien" so much it's even the traditional way by the world to refer to them.

Some of the kings have seen it as a mark of respect from the world for them by conferring on them a honourable name descended from the great Julius Caesar, others just see it as an embarrassing relic. King Julien XII (ruled from 2003 to 2016 and 2017 to 2027) saw it as a fun nickname for parties.

Aranycha technically has absolute primogeniture because every king until Julien XII had sons as the oldest offspring or in the case of Julien XI, no children. Julien XII inherited because he was chosen by his predecessor and uncle as his heir, which is also valid under Aranychian law. Anyway, Julien XII, the party-loving King, managed to break this with his first child, a girl. She was named Ilai, after Julien's former bodyguard, but was crowned as Queen Jwala, the feminine form of Jwalia. And of course, the rest of the world refers to her as Queen Julie, not breaking tradition at all.

God, I'm really getting into the idea of Tamil-speaking Madagascar characters. It's just so mad, and yet it just works.

Clockwise from Madagascar...
Madagascar: A native kingdom, it more or less relied on the British and French imperial structures glaring at each other in the region for centuries to avoid any actual annexationing. Those days, it has managed to be an observer in erm, both the Brithenidad and the Francophonie.
Comoros: A part of the Francophonie, it is more or less just a quiet puppet those days, with the islands doing their own thing.
Roarack: Also known as "Ecaille-Verte", it is the last place you can find dinosaurs outside the popular "Jurassic Parks". And they're sentient.
Seychelles: A wealthy island that's also a popular holiday place for the wealthy, with all that implies.
Vellai Islands: Very quiet, British-speaking place. Hardly remarkable.
Aranycha: I've already said a lot about this place.
Mauritius: Known worldwide as "the Home of the Dodo", the world's third-most popular pet, it hopes nobody looks into its racist history towards lemurs.
Reunion: A French-speaking city-state, rather densely-populated.

"The American Century"
[Basically GOP goes a weird fusion of hyper-civil rights for blacks with nativism against everyone else, and absorbs moralism and agrarianism, eventually turning socially conservative, while Dems end up basically the coalition of all the migrants, as well as anti-black racists and vague liberals of both social and classical variants. Also, a shitton of immigrants come over to America. Not really supposed to make sense, but enjoy!]
