Sea Lion Press Goodreads list

Everyone, Jared's got screwed by some twat on Goodreads giving Walking Through Dreams a one-star rating with no review. I've asked some mates to remedy that to pull the average back up, but please do your part by reviewing and rating as well and don't let his brilliant work get dragged down early: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/49014082-walking-through-dreams

Thanks @Thande for drawing this to people's attention.

I would echo @David Flin's observation that any reviews should be honest reviews. Readers will like or dislike my work, as it suits their preferences; I hold no illusions that anything I write will be universally loved. I'd just ask that if you have read the book and liked it, that you say so. (In my experience, people who dislike a book say so without needing to be asked for comment.)

One thing that everybody should know is that there are large number of spam profiles on Goodreads.
They are usually newly created but, like the one that gave Walking the one star review, can be accounts that have been created a long time ago, have gone inactive and been hacked. They typically have a link in their profile that leads to a Russian porn site or dating site.
Whenever I come across one of these profiles I report it to Goodreads and they investigate. 90% of the time they agree that it's a spam account and close it, however, they don't usually take down the ratings that have been given through the account for some reason - I'm stuck with half a dozen of these ratings (never reviews, just ratings) but I've been fairly lucky and not got anything less than 2*.

It's unfortunate that it's the only review the book has in this case, but it is not a real review and any author that gets anything similar should not take it to heart; it's come from a spam bot.

I have updated the list up to "Cometh the Hour..." (LTTW #4) and I have hit the 100-book limit that I can vote for in a Goodreads list. Unless I create another list, I am reasonably sure that only other people can add entries to it. If anyone else would like to continue adding the new books that have been and will be released, I (and probably many others) would be very thankful. :)

That is the sort of problem we want to have! Thanks.

@RoAwesomeFace First of all thank you for your work on this again. I don't know if you are adding my books on Goodreads or someone else is, but please be advised that I've been told by them that it needs to be attributed to "Tom Anderson" with 7 spaces in between the first and last names, or else it goes to a random windsurfer as author rather than me. Thanks.

Makes me wish I'd gone for a nom de plume!

Glad I could help!
I am not the one who has added your books to the site. I must say that the seven spaces solution is a strange one, though I can't think of a better one for situations like this.

Probably what we should do is set someone up to officially put all our books on as soon as they're published and make sure it's the right authors so we don't run into these problems.
As soon as my books become available I go and add them myself - it's in our own best interests to have a GR account and set up pages for the books, with covers, as soon as they are online

Thanks - sorry if I sounded accusing, I was just trying to figure out who was doing it before me!

Oh I agree, it's just that I tried to do this this time and someone genuinely beat me to it both times. Which I suppose is technically a good thing for what it possibly says about number of readers, just inconvenient in this instance ;)
