Louis II of Hungary survives

This two year old thread, http://forum.sealionpress.co.uk/ind...e-destiny-of-hungary-and-central-europe.1132/, has an interesting discussion. I don't think the Hungarians could have won at Mohács. The Ottoman army was simply far better than the Hungarian one. However, the partition of Hungary could easily have been avoided. The Ottomans didn't intend to annex Hungary, they wanted to make it a Christian vassal, like Wallachia and Moldavia. However, with Louis II's death, Hungary was thrown into chaos and the Ottomans were eventually forced to annex part of it in order to prevent the Habsburgs from annexing all of it. If Louis II had survived, Hungary would have become an Ottoman vassal state, paying an annual tribute. This would have been better for everyone. The Ottomans and the Habsburgs wouldn't have fought countless wars and could have focused elsewhere. The Hungarians would have remained independent. BTW, Calvinism would thrive in an independent Hungary.

I imagine the fortunes of Ferdinand and his descendants would be effected by them only having their Austrian territories and not the Kingdoms of Bohemia and Hungary?

Even if you take warring over Hungary to have been more trouble than it was worth historically, doesn't not having Bohemia leave them without an electorate of their own?
