Kindle rankings

As at 1pm, 17th June;
Nothing in the top 100 bestsellers.
In the "new releases";
Drake's Drum " #16
FTOTB #17
Bring Me My Bow #22
Chamberlain Resigns #24
Boy in the Storm #27
Caesars of the Bosphorus #28
Surly Bonds of Earth #36
When the Hurly-Burly's Done #42
Tales from Section D #45

Huge rise for Tales from Section D suggests that we're talking a low volume, here. Nonetheless, it's encouraging to see things holding relatively steady.

Kindle Rankings as of 2019 EST JUN 16, American Servers
Term: Top 100 New Alternate History
Chamberlein Resigns: 55
Drake's Drum: 21
Fight Them on the Beaches: 57
When the Hurly-Burly's Done: Not listed
Tales from Section D: Not listed
Bring Me My Bow: 30
Boy in the Storm: 64
Surly Bonds of Earth: Not listed
Ceasers on the Bosporus: 50
Beyond the Sunset: Not listed

After a few minutes accidentally perusing the [Technothrillers] tag, which is an amazingly undersaturated market we should bill anything vaugely space-related to, I now present the American side of the pond.

AH new releases list:

Drake's Drum: 8
Bring Me My Bow: 18
Chamberlain Resigns: 19
Tales from Section D: 24
FTOTB: 29
Caesars of the Bosphorus: 42
Boy in the Storm: 43
The Surly Bonds of Earth: 55
When the Hurly-Burly's Done: 63

One clear take away is that the figures are consistently and massively better on the UK servers than on the American, which suggests that our profile is (unsurprisingly) higher in the UK than in USA.

Wonder if size of market place makes much of a difference?

Our percentage of market is larger, but the core market is smaller since the USA servers also in large part double as the MEX and CAN severs. I'll run a check when I get done with work today and see how the math pans out, though.

I'll be fascinated to see how these rankings translate into the most important figure of all, actual sales.

The issue is, they're sales relative to the total pool of sales, so for that I'm going to probably need two more tranches to get data or get in talks with the Amazon themselves.

math is cooking slowly; it's really annoying to build a matrix out of our sales. I've got average and sum sales done, but that's not going to help with the "how many sales to charts jump" though.

Whatever the sales figures turn out like, having 9 in the top 50 is something of an achievement.

I also think that this tranche is staying in the top 100 for longer than the last tranche did......and I don't think the usual "mailchimp" circulation has gone out yet?

In general, an uptick, with some rising over 20 places from the same time yesterday. Hurly-Burly slipped, but had a big upward movement against the trend yesterday, which suggests a sale(s) occurring just before the cut-off time, with all others getting same after the cut-off.

Or something.
Puzzled by reference to "cut-off time" - according to Amazon the lists are updated on an hourly basis.

Looking just now in the UK:

Drake's Drum: 5
Bring Me My Bow: 8
Boy in the Storm: 13
FTOTB: 15
Chamberlain Resigns: 20
Tales from Section D: 21

A few big jumps there, esp. by Boy!

When I check Amazon US:

Drake's Drum: 17
Fight Them on the Beaches: 26
Ceasers on the Bosporus: 32

Surly Bonds of Earth: 65
Boy in the Storm: 80
Tales from Section D: Not listed
Beyond the Sunset: Not listed

but while I was double-checking, Amazon US for FTOTB jumped from 45 to 26

I wasn't aware of that. It's still a cut off if one makes it into one group, and the others into another because one gets in ahead of the deadline.

And also, of course, there are "newer" new releases being added each day and coming into the rankings....

Good news is, with the much more ironclad reporting now, the next time I do new release math it'll be much easier.
