German Soldiers, Jamaican Rebels, Eggnog Cocktails, and the Bible: The Origins of “Tom and Jerry”

It was interesting to find out that the use of Tommy Atkins as the go to moniker for the British soldier pre-dates his appearance in the forms as an example. Interestingly enough, I'm led to believe that Atkins, T., was always recorded as coming from the parish of Odiham, in Hampshire. Which is where I live. I hadn't ever considered that the name would be older than said entries.
