1. Maintain a civil environment.
Within reason, of course. If things are getting heated, try to cool down. Direct insults from one person to another would infringe this rule.

2. Don't break the law.
This includes everything from plagiarism to planning violent acts to sharing torrent links.

3. Aim to keep things Safe For Work.
Many regulars will be posting from work locations. Foul language is permitted, but repeated instances in very large writing could get someone into trouble. NSFW images are strictly banned.

4. No spamming.

5. Keep political discussion in The Pub forum.

ADMINISTRATION AND MODERATION

Administrator: Meadow
Moderators: Ciclavex, Dom, iainbhx, Tamar, OwenM

Sanctions will include Warnings, Kicks, and Bans.

All sanctions will be reviewed by at least two other moderators as soon as possible. Sanctions may be appealed by PM directly to the moderator who delivered the sanction, who will advise the reviewing moderators.

Moderators who engage in a given discussion should recuse themselves from moderating that particular discussion. Note that this may be a specific topic within a thread rather than the entire thread.

The final port of call will be to the Admin. Should the Admin judge himself to be unable to objectively moderate a given situation, or a unanimous decision of the other four moderators make that same call, non-SLP-specific moderation decisions may be overruled.

ADVOCACY OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE

Please be aware that this entire area can be a legal minefield. Accordingly, this is the stance this board adopts in this area:

This board and its staff do not encourage political violence (Defined as violence that is carried out in order to accomplish a political objective or deny others from doing so, and which is not specifically legal, such as in self-defence or the legal defence of others), and this board is not a place where extremism, illegality, and violence are ever to be encouraged. Any and all illegal activities are NOT acceptable.

With that said, when discussing current, past, and future politics and news, or discussing political ideologies, discussions over instances of political violence as defined above are inevitable, as these do exist and do affect states and politics. Further, debates over the acceptability (in each individual poster's personal opinion) of instances of political violence may take place as long as everyone is aware that:
- Personal opinions are solely personal and not an expression of board policy in any way, shape, or form even when members of the moderating team or the Administrator express their personal views;
- Any illegality (such as, but not limited to, encouraging others to commit violence against political opponents (or, indeed, anyone) in a premeditated way) is not only against board rules but may result in details being passed to appropriate authorities in accordance with the law (For instance, the example cited may well be a criminal offence under the Serious Crimes Act of 2007, regardless of whether or not any violence was later committed);
- Individuals engaged in discussion will often have very strong opinions and personal experience that can cause emotional pain or trauma even to the point of triggering episodes of PTSD; those discussing this subject will be expected to bear this in mind in their posting and accept that instances of discussion may be closed down as and when the staff deem it appropriate.

To reiterate: the SLP Forum will not now or ever be a site where extremism or illegal action is to be encouraged or incubated. Advocacy of political violence or encouraging advocacy of political violence is playing with legal fire. Anyone discussing political violence or advocacy of such must be aware that encouraging any illegal violence (whether specific or general, and whether or not it is later committed) is an illegal act and is recognised as such by this site. Discussion of political violence (both specific or theoretical) without encouraging any illegal acts is acceptable but members must be aware of the guidelines shown above.
