effects of Mussolini's Italy ISOT to the present?

I expect within forty eight hours there is a Leclerc sitting in Rome with a smug look and a Legionaire on top of it playing something out of tune on the accordian while the Pastas get a quick shot in the arm in the name of Freedom. It's not an occupation, mind, just a strongly worded reassurence the Democratic Process will keep working- starting with the knifepoint vote to eject Mussolini.

An 'alternative' Mussolini appears in "The Longest Road", volume nine of my "House of Stuart Sequence".

The pressure for the Italians to remove themselves from their colonial empire would be immense - the Greeks would probably occupy the Dodecanese straight away.
