I know I only started being active 3 days ago or so, but I figured it might be good to make a thread to import some of my wikibox content from AH.com without cluttering the general wikibox thread. Below is the first assortment I'm bringing over: the first portion of wikiboxes from my alternate timeline To The Edge and Maybe Over.

816 Westeros monarchial elections
WARNING: Contains spoilers for the series finale of Game of Thrones.

It has been five centuries since Bran the Broken first took the throne. Much has changed since the Raven King's reign. The Iron Islands and Dorne no longer answer to the government in King's Landing, instead joining Winterfell and the Freelands in independence. The original structure where the king was elected by nobles has been fundamentally altered by the Tarlyite reforms of King Eddard the Extraordinary. Wars are no longer waged by knights on horseback but by dragonpowder weapons and artificial dragons raining death from the sky (though fortunately the likes of R'hllor's Eye has not been used in warfare since the destruction of Mereen in 753 to stop the revanchist regime of King Daario III). The Mycahikan colonies of Winterfell and Westeros have been independent for nearly a century. The Kingsroad today is a highway traveled by automobiles, Dorne has earned vast riches from tourism, satellites can pinpoint every point from the Freelands to South Sothos, dragons and White Walkers have become cliche movie monsters and a politician's downfall today is more likely to be a career killer than an actual death.

The 816 election of a monarch was the first election of the 9th century since Aegon's Conquest. Monarchial elections today are largely carried out by the vote of a democratically elected assembly, though many noble, eminent families retain longtime seats and the likes of the Lannisters, Baratheons, Arryns, Bronnsons and Tarlys retain a major presence and have produced a disproportionate number of kings. Political factions are nominally illegal in terms of monarchial candidacy, but factionalism nevertheless remains in fact if not in name. As in most elections, many individuals put their names in for consideration, but as always the field narrowed by the time the Assembly voted. The top four candidates each represented different factions. Arya Sparrow was a centrist, technocratic, youthful candidate. She had a major following on the eWeb and a charismatic personality. Quentin Sand was a Dornish-descended individual residing in the Vale who was a staunch supporter of a proposed Westeros Economic Union that would encompass the Freelands, Winterfell, Dorne, the Iron Islands and the Five Kingdoms. Sand's internationalism also extended to foreign affairs, as he advocated a military buildup to confront various threats overseas. His hawkish views were largely shared by Henryk Baratheon, one of the holdovers of the more oligarchial government structure. Baratheon favored more conservative policy stances than Sand or Sparrow did, supporting cuts to government spending, lower taxes, more restrictions on immigration (especially from Essos and Sothos) and skepticism of the Westeros Economic Union. Finally, Tylar Potter ran as a candidate of the working class, favoring expansion of government support to the poor as well as traditionalist stances on social issues.

The first ballot saw Sand take the lead, with Sparrow right behind him and Baratheon and Potter tying for fourth. This was bad news for Potter, as despite achieving the same level of support in the Assembly, as a noble, Baratheon was entitled to advance while Potter was not (a law Potter decried as archaic and sparked major national protests). The second round of voting saw Sand keep his lead while Sparrow also picked up support. Baratheon, facing disappointing results, saw that he could not hold out much longer and ultimately offered to support Sparrow if she would support a referendum on the WEU. Sparrow agreed to these terms and in the third vote of the assembly became the first elected Queen of the Five Kingdoms of Westeros. Her victory was heralded as historic, but only time will tell if her reign will be prosperous or troubled. Many believe that years of human activities bode for a worse winter than normal. The Sevenist Union of Mycahika has shot down an Iron Islander aircraft that got too close to their territory. And in Essos, a man claiming to be the Prince That Was Promised has assembled a collection of R'hllorist militants and directed them to attack the Five Kingdoms' ally of Volantis...

The University of California, Sunnydale is a public research university situated in the town of Sunnydale, California. UC Sunnydale is the youngest UC school in the state, having only been opened in 1974. This fact is further accentuated by the fact the school was shut down following the 2003 Sunnydale sinkhole catastrophe, which saw much of the campus badly damaged and the entire student body and faculty evacuated. Following the resettlement of Sunnydale in 2008, UC Sunnydale would be reopened in 2011.

UC Sunnydale was, prior to its initial closure, a well-renowned research university that received the third-highest grants of any UC school, behind only UC Berkeley and UC Los Angeles. The reopened UC Sunnydale did not receive the same level of funding, but despite being the second-smallest school in the UC system (ahead only of UC Merced), is ranked fifth among UC schools and is considered among the top 50 schools under the age of fifty. The low enrollment at UC Sunnydale in large part is attributable to the unusually high mortality rate students at UC Sunnydale experienced from 1974 to 2003, as well as the unusually high rate of disappearances and murders in Sunnydale during that timeframe. While the modern Sunnydale and UC Sunnydale do not have the same disproportionate rates, these incidents have given the school a negative reputation and caused the rebuilt school to suffer enrollment problems in its early years.

There are a number of conspiracy theories surrounding UC Sunnydale, largely as a result of the 2007 revelations surrounding the existence of vampires and preexisting interest in Sunnydale as a hotbed of paranormal activities. Several vampires, including vampire rights leader Harmony Kendell, allege that UC Sunnydale served as the site for a government-run, Slayer-operated vampire internment camp where vampires were subjected to ruthless experimentation and termination. These claims have been disputed by both the US government and the Slayer Organization, though declassified government documents do indicate a disproportionate number of UC Sunnydale faculty from 1984 to 2003 were on the federal payroll.

The 1998 California gubernatorial election was an election that was held on November 3, 1998. Incumbent Republican Governor Pete Wilson was term-limited. The Democratic Party nominated Lieutenant Governor Gray Davis, whom was favored to win the election owing to Wilson's controversial support of Proposition 187. The Republicans, meanwhile, surprised many by nominating Richard Wilkins III, longtime mayor of the town of Sunnydale, California, as their candidate for governor. Many other Republicans whom had considered mounting bids for governor would choose not to run after experiencing sudden health issues, the deaths of family members or scandals that seemed to emerge out of nowhere.

The general election campaign was rather close, as Wilkins managed to distance himself from the controversies of Wilson and win support with his affable personality. Many Republicans likened Wilkins to Ronald Reagan (who personally campaigned for Wilkins on several occasions). However, the Davis campaign was able to push back against Wilkins' campaign on many fronts-for instance, Davis criticized Wilkins' stance on crime by citing Sunnydale's disproportionately high homicide rates and frequent assaults carried out by individuals on PCP. In the end, Davis narrowly emerged the victor. Wilkins would nevertheless be considered a potential candidate for the future by Republicans, with national figures hoping he would challenge Davis again in 2002 or run for Senate in 2000. However, Wilkins would die before he could do either in a gas main explosion during his commencement speech at Sunnydale High School's 1999 graduation ceremony.

Mr. Crowley, What Went Down in Your Head?
Aleister Crowley was an English occultist and politician best known for being the founder of the Thelemic Union of Britain, the government which has ruled Britain since 1929. Crowley first emerged in the early 20th century as an occultist author responsible for writing a number of texts he claimed to be inspired by a trio of Egyptian gods such as the Book of the Law. Crowley outlined principles by which he believed men should live as well as methods of magic (or magick as he preferred to call it) one could engage in to achieve one's True Will. Crowley was initially rather apolitical (if not anti-political), but following the Central Powers victory in World War I, Crowley claimed that Ra-Hoor-Kut had come to him once again and ordered him to pursue efforts to radically restructure Britain so as to achieve the True Will of the British people as a whole (the concept Crowley dubbed the 'National Will'). Crowley's activism in the period from 1918 to 1925 yielded little fruit, but following his prediction of a period of hardship emerging for Britain just weeks before the 1926 market crash and warning of a reckoning in Germany before the German Civil War erupted between the country's communists and the army of the Kaiser, Crowley drew increasing support. Ultimately, Crowley's National Will Party seized control of Parliament with a slim majority.

Crowley would only serve as Prime Minister for less than a year before the Parliament called a no confidence vote in his government. The Conservative, Labour and Liberal Parties all opposed Crowley, viewing him as a dangerous Satanist demagogue. He also had the hostility of the Anglican Church and the House of Windsor due to his religious views. Crowley responded to this vote by having his followers in the Ordo Tempii Ordis plant explosives in Parliament and instructing National Will MPs (as well as members of other parties friendlier to him) to refuse to attend Parliament on the day of the vote. On November 9th, Parliament was destroyed. Crowley also had one of his followers kill the king and burn down Buckingham Palace, which he managed to barely get away with. With the obstacles out of the way, Crowley seized total control of Britain. He declared his enemies' fall proof that a man pursuing his True Will shall achieve all he desires and ordered the abolition of the United Kingdom, instead declaring the formation of the Thelemic Union of Britain with himself as the Ailwass of the country.

Crowley spent much of the 1930's seeking to handle the fallout of this on Britain's imperial holdings. Smaller colonies like the Bahamas, Bermuda, Jamaica and the Falklands did not challenge Crowley's rule, but bigger colonies threatened to defy him. Canada's defiance ultimately led to Crowley severing ties with the country and tacitly approving US President Huey Long's decision to invade the country. Australia and New Zealand declared independence but returned to subordination as Japan grew increasingly expansionist. Crowley's policies in India were more positive, as he held the country's culture in high regard and ultimately made India a largely self-governing dominion headed by Mohandas Gandhi in 1937. Crowley made Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, and Kurdistan dominions as well. He also made a number of pilgrimages to Egypt during his rule, believing it would allow him to commune with the gods. Domestically, Crowley worked to propagate the tenets of Thelema across Britain. He publicly decried the Anglican Church as the faith of Britain and, while he maintained an official policy of religious freedom, removed many of the governmental ties to the Church of England and outright converted some major churches into Thelemic temples suitable for Gnostic Mass and ceremonial magick. Crowley's efforts to promote Thelema as a faith have led to it becoming a fairly major faith, being practiced by 100 million people worldwide as of 2019. Crowley also pursued radical social policies, legalizing all intoxicants as well as homosexuality.

During this time, the Kaiser of Germany worked to form a friendlier relationship with Britain believing Crowley could be an ally against communism, which had taken root in Russia, France and Italy. However, Crowley rebuffed the Kaiser's overtures as he despised the traditional hereditary nobility Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire possessed. While no communist, Crowley admired their revolutionary spirit. Additionally, the Kaiser imprisoned German Thelemites such as Ernst Schafer as threats to the peace, which further alienated Crowley from Germany. Following the beginning of the Second World War in 1942, Crowley thus maintained a policy of neutrality in the conflict. However, Crowley's efforts ultimately failed as the People's Republic of China, following the collapse of the Republic of China in the surrounding regions, began besieging Hong Kong in 1945. Additionally, the Soviets invaded Kurdistan as a part of an effort to bolster communist rebels in Iran. Seeing no other option, Crowley joined the Central Powers in fighting the communist forces. Crowley's military leadership did not prove as strong as his domestic leadership and Kurdistan, Iraq and Hong Kong fell to the communist forces and the attempted landing at Calais Crowley ordered turned into a massacre. Consequently, Crowley would step down from the position as Ailwass, selecting as his successor the young but promising MI5 operative Ian Fleming, who would lead the Thelemic Union to victory in the Second World War.

Crowley would die two years after stepping down and remains a controversial figure in Britain to this day. Those favorable to his legacy point to the destruction of the old elite of Britain, his decolonization initiatives and his radically liberal social policies creating an atmosphere of tremendous freedom. Detractors argue Crowley's dictatorial tendencies, erosion and elimination of many British traditions and poor military leadership were highly problematic. Fleming, after the Second World War, restored democratic elections to the Thelemic Union though the National Will party held the position of Ailwass for over forty-five of the past seventy years. Younger generations who question Thelemite orthodoxies tend to be the most critical of Crowley while those who grew up closer to the life of the man still often known as the Great Beast hold him in a much higher regard. Whatever one's feelings, it cannot be denied Crowley is one of the key men to shape the 20th century, remaking Britain and the world forever.

FDR the Eternal
It's not totally clear how President Franklin D. Roosevelt is still alive. Biologically speaking he definitely is alive and kicking, so he's not undead. There are rumors he carried out some kind of magical ritual to live forever. Or obtained the legendary Philosopher's stone. Or found the Fountain of Youth. Or maybe he was selected by God as the natural leader of the US as the Rooseveltians think. But what is clear is that President Roosevelt has served as president for nearly 9 decades by now. Many of his rivals, from Herbert Hoover to John McCain, are dead and buried. Over half his running mates likewise are gone. But FDR remains.

Why do people keep electing him? Well, there's always something he is prepared to tinker with. Always grasping ahead seeking to advance those Four Freedoms he supported back during the Second World War. There's always something else to aspire towards. Universal healthcare. Guaranteed minimum income. An end to climate change. Worldwide democratization. There is always something new he can demand on the campaign trail and there is always enough passion from the man himself that he inevitably triumphs. Some never had a chance-Gary Johnson never found his footing, Joe McCarthy was a nutcase and Pat Buchanan was too extreme. Some have come close to unseating him however-Reagan was within 5 points two out of three of his challenges to Roosevelt and if it hadn't been for Ron Paul, McCain might've won the popular vote. But in the end, Roosevelt remains.

There are of course drawbacks to having the world's oldest man as a longtime leader. The propaganda disadvantage was an issue back in the Cold War and even in the post-Soviet world, Roosevelt's stubbornness has stymied diplomacy with the likes of China and Iran. Civil rights was a nonstarter nationally for him-he was willing to desegregate the federal government, but Roosevelt ultimately cared more about keeping the Dixiecrats in his corner than ensuring racial equality. And it's probably best not to bring up the LGBT community around him either. The Supreme Court is double the size it was when Roosevelt took office-either a brilliant reform that makes it operate better or yet another overreach by the Roosevelt administration depending on who you ask. The federal government is quite bloated by this point and even FDR staff agree things may have gotten a bit out of hand. But that won't change under Roosevelt. It never does.

"Who?"

Heinrich Himmler was the second Fuhrer of the Third German Reich. Formerly the leader of the SS and a key architect of the Holocaust, Himmler ascended to the position of Fuhrer following the suicide of Adolf Hitler and the subsequent fall of Berlin. Himmler and small number of high-ranking Nazi officials were able to escape the German heartland to the Bismarck Mondbasis. From the Mondbasis, Himmler continued to coordinate an insurgency in Germany as well as air raids via spacecraft from the Mondbasis. Himmler retained leadership of this remnant Third Reich until 1946, when an Allied space force lead by American rocket scientist Jack Parsons and Soviet General Georgy Zhukov made it to the lunar surface and attacked the Mondbasis. Himmler fought on for a few months before German Admiral Karl Donitz overthrew Himmler and officially surrendered to the Allies. His overthrow marked the official end of the Second World War. Himmler would be tried and executed at the second round of the Nuremberg Trials in 1947. The Bismarck Mondbasis he had resided in would remain in legal limbo for the next two years as the United States and USSR squabbled over who should maintain control of it (the US arguing they ought to take it over due to leading the Allied space program that finished off the Third Reich for good, the USSR arguing they had done more overall to defeat the Nazis). Ultimately, the Mondbasis was handed over the United Nations and was renamed the Unity Lunar Facility. It remains operational to the present day and is the only permanent settlement owned by the UN.

Author Swap
Ayn Rand
was a Russian-American author best known for works of fantasy, horror and gothic romance. Her most iconic works, The Vampyre Lestat and Akasha Shrugged, are widely considered to be the defining works of contemporary vampire literature. Both works have been adapted into films multiple times (the former three times and the latter twice) and have been cited by contemporary authors as key influences on their works. Rand has been credited with creating the urban fantasy genre by some, though this is somewhat disputed.

The Wickedest Man in the White House
The name Anton LaVey is still one that stirs up strong emotions in America. Born in Chicago, LaVey was from a young age a dedicated proponent of individualism. The America LaVey grew up was not particularly receptive to these ideals, as under President Huey Long the power of the state relative to the individual was growing stronger and stronger. Long's sixteen-year administration saw power concentrated in the hands of the federal government, the collapse of the Republican Party and the annexation of Canada. It was in young adulthood that LaVey would begin to go down the path that would lead him to the White House.

LaVey would attend college at New York University and while there befriend a fellow college student named Murray Rothbard. Like LaVey, Rothbard was a staunch individualist who, as he grew older, found himself viewing the US federal government with disgust. LaVey and Rothbard would together work to support the quixotic independent presidential bid of General Douglas MacArthur in 1952. While McArthur was defeated, his campaign would lay the groundwork for the rise of the American Freedom Party, dedicated to opposing government interference in the market and promoting an isolationist foreign policy agenda. LaVey would become a key leader in the nascent party in the 1950's, moving to California and recruiting Freedomite candidates for Congress. LaVey's efforts allowed for the recruitment and election of Jack Parsons, Robert Heinlein and Ronald Reagan to Congress in the late 1950's.

LaVey's infatuation with the occult would begin in large part thanks to his interactions with Parsons, a Thelemite and personal friend of Britain's Ailwass Aleister Crowley. LaVey reportedly encouraged Rothbard to participate in rituals alongside him, though the latter proved reluctant. Nevertheless, by the mid-1960's, LaVey would be an active occultist, developing his own brand of spirituality that viewed Satan as an archetype representing free will against a tyrannical God. These beliefs were not in line with the Freedom Party as a whole (many Freedomites were hardcore Christians who defended isolationism on the grounds of not aiding the 'Satanic' Thelemic Union of Britain), but LaVey would publish The Case for Satan in 1962 outlining this view and the politics he believed this spiritualism entailed. This book was also when LaVey would come up with his most notable name (he was born Howard Stanton Levey and legally changed his surname’s spelling to LaVey in 1963).

The publication of The Case for Satan was highly controversial and Senator John Stennis outright pushed President Adlai Stevenson to ban the book. However, the book took off with the rising 'hipnik' counterculture, which was opposed to the rigid rules that the Longist consensus dominating America enforced upon them. While the hipniks had not had a dominant political affiliation beyond opposition to Stevenson's Cuban War, LaVey pushed them into the Freedomite camp and away from the socialist and communist wings of the movement. The reaction to this among Freedomites was mixed-his old friend Rothbard celebrated this push as it led to many hipniks embracing Rothbard's economic perspective, but Freedomite Chairman Fred Koch worried the hipniks would alienate the country as a whole. Despite this, LaVey rode his newfound notoriousness to become Lieutenant Governor to Freedomite Governor John Wayne (picked by Wayne explicitly to win over the hipniks).

However, when Wayne was murdered by Sirhan Sirhan in 1969, LaVey ascended to the governorship. LaVey would become a hipnik (later dubbed 'libertarian') darling for his policies. He legalized marijuana and homosexuality, drastically cut taxes and sought to facilitate private firearm ownership. California would experience an economic boom under LaVey's leadership, which allowed his preferred successor Ed Clark to win in 1974 despite the poor state of the national economy. It was at this point LaVey would seek to win the presidency, regarding the economic downturn that had erupted under President Frank Church as an opportunity for the Freedom Party to finally seize political power.

LaVey was able to triumph over a crowded field, but not without protest. Ronald Reagan, whom LaVey had ironically gotten to enter politics in the first place, challenged him from a traditionalist standpoint, seeking to appeal to social conservatism and religiosity. However, despite the split ticket, LaVey managed to win the presidency over both Church and Reagan. LaVey's term in office was-and remains to this day-polarizing. Proponents point to economic growth, decriminalizing homosexuality and drug use, ending the lengthy Cuban War and lowering the deficit as points in his favor. Critics cite LaVey's ambivalence-bordering on outright hostility-to civil rights legislation on the basis of property rights, his abrasive personality, creating long-term economic problems thanks to Rothbard's role at the Treasury Department, creating power vacuums overseas and increasing crime under his presidency. LaVey was controversial enough that 'tomorrow Democrat' Lee Iacocca was able to beat his vice president Donald Rumsfeld in 1984.

LaVey would die twelve years after leaving office, leaving a polarizing legacy. To the Democrats, he is a despised figure, in some circles regarded as the Devil himself. However, to his supporters, he represents all that is right with America-belief in freedom and liberty and the desire to fight for it.

Ambition Meets Ambition
Considering the polarizing times and the fact the candidates came from completely different states (urban, cosmopolitan New York and agriculture-heavy, traditionalist Nebraska), the 2040 presidential election pitted two remarkably similar presidential candidates against each other. Both Senator Payton Hobart and Governor Tracy Flick had been politically engaged from a young age, being elected president of both their high school classes. Both had, even at this time, been illegally targetted by their opponents (a disgruntled teacher attempted to rig Flick's election against her and Hobart was deliberately given sepsis by the boyfriend of his ex-running mate). Despite these setbacks, both Flick and Hobart had managed to make successful forays into politics in college and used the successes they had there to build up to higher and higher office-ultimately coming to vie with each other for the White House. According sources close to both, becoming president had been a lifelong dream both of them possessed. In the end, however, only one of them could win it and it was Hobart-the younger of the two-to make it over the finish line.
1580701774150.png

Payton Hobart (played by Ben Platt) is the lead character of the recently released Netflix series The Politician, a comedy-drama about a teenager who aspires to become president one day and is seeking to lay the groundwork for that goal. Tracy Flick (played by Reese Witherspoon) is the central antagonist in the film Election, where she is an ambitious, cunning teenager running for student body president, to the ire of one of her teachers who blames her for getting a colleague fired. Said teacher goes on to recruit a challenger to her campaign and things escalate from there. Basically the two works explore a similar central conceit (teens who are planning long-term political rises starting with serving as student body president) in different ways (Hobart being a largely sympathetic character in a late 2010's series, Flick a more openly amoral figure who is from a late 90's film).

The Man Dressed in Brown
Malcolm Reynolds
was a soldier, smuggler and revolutionary best known for his role in the 26th century Stellar Revolution (sometimes also called the Second Browncoat Uprising, Reynolds' Revolution and the Second Unification War). Reynolds was born on the outer world of Shadow and raised on a ranch. Reynolds would grow up relatively well-enough-while by no means educated on the level of the average core world, the ranch he grew up in was one of the more prosperous ones. Reynolds developed a strong religious faith during this time and, as tensions between the core and outer worlds grew, became increasingly sympathetic to the separatist cause. When the outer worlds seceded, Reynolds would join the Browncoats and participate in a number of battles as a part of the 57th Overlanders Brigade. Reynolds fought in the Battles of Du-Khang, New Kashmir, Sturges and Serenity Valley, the final fight of the war.

Reynolds was left disillusioned and faithless by the Browncoat defeat in the Unification War, which also claimed the lives of several close friends in the separatist forces. Banding together with his lieutenant Zoe Alleyne, Reynolds would begin the life of a smuggler, purchasing a Firefly-class ship he dubbed the Serenity and spending eight years engaging in petty crime. However, this would change in 2518, where Reynolds played a key role in revealing the UAP's disastrous experiments on the planet Miranda and the resulting creation of the scourge known as the Reavers that the Alliance had covered up. The backlash to this revelation was swift and intense and uprisings broke out not only on a number of outer worlds, but even on some core worlds. Many of the rebel leaders contacted Reynolds in an attempt to make him the leader of the rebel forces-a role he was purportedly reluctant to assume. However, after some persuasion by members of his crew, Reynolds accepted the role as de facto leader of the Compact of Free Worlds.

Reynolds was by all accounts a rather hands-on leader, taking the Serenity to various worlds in order to bolster rebel forces. Reynolds' support helped dislodge Alliance holdouts on several outer worlds and helped ferry reinforcements into the rebellious sectors of the core. By 2526, the UAP had lost control of several inner worlds including Higgins' Moon, Jiangyin, Beaumonde and Ariel. However, pockets of pro-Compact rebels had been crushed on a number of core worlds, including Londinium and Sihnon, the two capitals of the UAP. While the Compact had numbers on their side, the UAP forces remained better trained and better equipped. Reynolds consequently came up with a bold gambit aimed at taking down the UAP for good.

The bulk of the Compact fleet was dispatched towards Sihnon en masse, ostensibly with the goal of taking control of the planet. The UAP dispatched the bulk of its defenses towards Sihnon to intercept the invaders, while crucial leaders on the planet were temporarily evacuated towards Londinium. However, on April 5th, a small, but well-armed fleet headed by the Serenity struck Londinium, bypassing a number of core worlds on the way. Planetary defenses were raised, but despite the efforts of the remaining Alliance forces, the Compact fleet was able to enter the planet's atmosphere and targetted the capital district. The anti-spacecraft defenses were sparser than normal, as many had been sent to Sihnon to defend the planet and thus the Compact forces were able to land on the surface. Reynolds personally led Compact forces in storming the Central Directorate, the building where the core leadership of the UAP was holed up. A brutal firefight ensued between the guards and the Compact's forces, but ultimately the latter were able to seize control of the building.

However, Reynolds himself did not make it into the Central Directorate-he was fatally wounded by a UAP security officer. The leadership of the Compact was passed on to Simon Tam, a key political advisor to Reynolds. Tam would go on to accept the surrender of the surviving UAP leadership and preside over the establishment of the new Compact of Free Worlds confederal governing structure. Reynolds himself remains a generally revered figure in the known 'Verse and monuments to him can be found on a number of planets.

Angkar is the state religion of Kampuchea and the nation's current dominant religion of the country. Angkar was founded in 1969 as a splinter sect of Theravada Buddhism by Saloth Sar, a French-education Khmer. Sar claimed to have achieved a form of enlightenment via meditation in the 1960's and outlined a vision of a harmonious Kampuchea where all 'inharmonious influences' were purged. Sar's movement began to gain traction during the Cambodian Civil War of the early 1970's and ultimately succeeded in taking control of the country in 1975. At this point, Sar made Angkar the state religion of the new State of Kampuchea and used the pretense of 'restoring harmony' to liquidate many major urban centers, wipe out non-Khmer peoples within the country and bring the country's Buddhist community under his personal control. The Angkar regime also carried out mass murder of 'destabilizing elements' of society that led to the death of a third of the population of Kampuchea. An attempt by North Vietnam to intervene against Sar's rule in Kampuchea failed thanks to CIA support for the Angkar regime as a bulwark against communism in the region (despite earlier interest in Marxism, communists were considered foreign threats by Sar by the time he came to power and were thus purged). Over the course of the 1980's and 1990's, Sar increasingly consolidated his power in Kampuchea, an entire generation growing up to embrace the anti-modernist and nativist beliefs of Angkar. By the time of Sar's death in 1998, Kampuchea had become the only country to have actively deindustrialized. A famine in Kampuchea in the early 2000's killed an estimated 2 million people and the government refused aid from neighbors. As of the present, Kampuchea is an isolated international pariah, but remains under the grip of the Angkar cult and the regime shows no external signs of collapsing any time soon. Intervention into the country to overthrow the regime has been proposed on a few occasions, but at this point, it is widely seen as too little too late.

There are a few self-proclaimed Angkar sects known to exist outside of Kampuchea, however, no such group numbers greater than 50 individuals and they are generally regarded with suspicion.

Here's a wikibox based on the premise that Margaret Stock dropped out of the 2016 Alaska Senate race. After this we also see Murkowski waffling on Trump in just the right way to alienate both Trump's supporters and opponents in Alaska...so Joe Miller becomes the US's first Libertarian Party Senator to the chagrin of much of the Libertarian Party given Miller's Trumpist sympathies. Despite being a nominal Libertarian, Miller voted with Trump around 90% of the time. Following the assassination of Donald Trump in 2018, Miller has expressed disappointment with the Pence administration's policies and is rumored to be considering a Libertarian presidential campaign. Given that the very anti-Trumpian Justin Amash is currently also weighing a run with that party against Pence over hardline social conservatism and warmongering as opposed to globalism, trade and immigration, things in the Libertarian primaries are likely to be quite interesting...

"The mere act of living in America as a black woman is an act of defiance against hundreds of years of systemic racism. I say this not to ask for pity or sympathy, I say this to illustrate how profoundly threatening the ascendency of white nationalism in recent years is to me and millions of others. I think it is reasonable to hope that our government will take this threat seriously."

"Gun-free zones don't make us safer. They allow mass murderers to target us with little to stop them. Gun control is not the solution to these tragedies-self-defense is."

Here's an infobox based on the premise of the Reform Party nominating Trump in 2000 and thus remaining a viable organization for far longer. Reform support dipped in 2004 despite nominating Jesse Ventura, but by 2008, the backlash from the Great Recession bolstered its numbers significantly, especially among young people. The bad news is the party never fully defined itself ideologically, going from nominating Ventura to putting up a ticket of Ron Paul and Angus King in 2008, Bernie Sanders and Ben Carson in 2012 and Jon Huntsman and Dennis Kucinich in 2016. In 2020, the Reform Party race was dominated by Missouri Governor Josh Hawley, New York City Mayor Andrew Yang, Senator Ro Khanna and Congressman Justin Amash and the ticket ultimately ended up being Hawley/Khanna. Needless to say, the party is still finding itself-it is only really united by opposition to free-trade agreements, the military-industrial complex, mass surveillance and crony capitalism.

The Peace & Freedom Party is a United States-based political party that first rose to prominence in the late 1960's. Following the disasters of the Vietnam War and the corruption of the Reagan administration, the P&F Party managed to elect their nominee Mike Gravel as president in 1972. The eight-year 'Gravel Revolution' saw major electoral changes occur in the US and American culture take a decided shift in the direction of the previous decade's countercultue. Increasing social liberalization and anti-interventionism skyrocketed, as did more left-wing sentiment. The Democratic and Republican Party collapse led to the twenty-year rule by the Peace & Freedom Party. Even after this monopoly on power was broken in the 1990's, the Peace & Freedom Party has enjoyed general political dominance, bolstered by coalitions with smaller left-wing parties such as the Farmer-Labor Party, the Black Panther Party and the Green Party. Today, the Peace & Freedom Party holds the presidency, an acting majority in the US Senate and a plurality of governorships.

The Libertarian Party was founded in 1971 by advocates of free markets, noninterventionism and personal liberty. While originally on the fringe even among the counterculture opposition to Reagan, the Libertarians in 1976 managed to gain increased attention and support by running former Senators Mark Hatfield and Eugene McCarthy in that year's election, managing to skyrocket to third place. Over the course of the 1980's, the Libertarians managed to gain an increased following. Following the 1991 economic crisis, the Libertarians managed to triumph in the 1992 presidential election under the leadership of Russell Means. The hopes of permanent Libertarian dominance faded following the 2000 election defeat of Vice President Ron Paul in one of modern history's closest races. However, the Libertarians have managed to retain their position as the closest thing to a conservative party that is capable of winning the White House in present-day America. The Libertarians currently are not in possession of the presidency (though they only lost it 4 years ago when Teachout beat President Jim Gray's preferred successor Laura Ekbe), but have a working majority in the House of Representatives. This majority is the result of a coalition between the Libertarian Party, the American Independent Party and the Democratic-Republican Party. However, in recent months, concerns have begun among the D-R's about the rise in radicalism among members of the AIP and the potential increase in radical paleolibertarian LP officeholders should former Senator Dana Rohrabacher win the Libertarian nomination in 2020. This could mean the end to the Libertarians' working majority and a Peace & Freedom trifecta for the first time since 1993.

The Spirit Walks In Darkness
"What we need now, more than ever, is a return to normalcy. This president has discarded allies, disregarded experts in their field and sought to shred basic norms of both the law and fundamental decency. If we are to move forward as a country, we need to reestablish who we are as a country."
-Former Vice President Joe Biden, August 7, 2020

"Look, folks, Sleepy Joe-he's a loser. He's a pushover, Nobody respects him like they respect me. We beat ISIS, we beat the invisible enemy-we've won so much over the last four years. If Biden-he'll roll over. And we'll lose as a country. It'll be a disaster. A huge mistake."

-Headlines of The Washington Post, September-October 2020

"At this moment, with less than three days left to go before the election, it seems likely that Biden will emerge triumphant given his consistent lead over Trump in the polls. However, caution is important given that the Clinton campaign four years ago lost crucial momentum in the final days leading up to Election Day. Additionally there remains the concern regarding how the Republicans will react to a defeat-Trump has regularly tweeted about voter fraud and the 'outbreak hoax' being a Democratic ploy to drive down turnout."

-Donald Trump on Twitter, November 5, 2020

"The president's refusal to accept reality is disappointing, but unsurprising. We have a clear mandate from American voters and expect that Trump will fail in his effort to steal this election from its legitimate winner."
-Biden campaign spokeswoman Symone Sanders, November 7, 2020

"As an Arizonan, I stand by the president 200%. There were major voting irregularities in this state and I honestly don't see how Arizona could have gone Democrat by the margins we've seen without illegal voting. I think we must investigate and, if the Biden campaign did in fact cheat, he ought to be charged with treason."
-Arizona GOP Chair Kelli Ward, November 9, 2020

"This president's efforts to outright steal a presidential election are flagrantly unacceptable. This demonstrates an extreme unfitness for office and must not go unchallenged."
-Representative Steny Hoyer introducing the second round of articles of impeachment against Donald Trump, November 11, 2020

"These impeachment charges are clearly political and partisan in nature. It is the Senate's right to determine whether an impeachment trial is to be pursued and given all of the irregularities in this election, I do not deem it appropriate to dignify these charges with a trial."

-Headlines of The Washington Post, December 2020

"As of this moment, the United States Armed Forces is stuck in a very uncomfortable position given the contested nature of the presidential election. Around a quarter of the Joint Chiefs of Staff have been dismissed by Trump for encouraging him to concede power to Biden, though Biden supporters and certain units of the armed forces continue to recognize them as key military leadership. As of this time, neither Biden nor Trump have attempted to issue orders to the Armed Forces, though this will likely change in the near future. However, it is unclear which side they will ultimately come down on-the military's generally conservative lean has been weakened by Trump's rhetoric surrounding the 'deep state' and isolationist sympathies coupled with Biden's own moderation and the fact Biden internationally has more recognition as America's legitimate leader than Trump (who counts among those recognizing his government many traditional American rivals such as Russia and autocracies such as Turkey, Egypt and Hungary)."
