The first attempt to supply Lettow-Vorbeck was with a sister ship, the L-57/LZ-102, but was burned on the ground on the 8th of October after it was damaged whilst attempting to enter it's hangar. L-59/LZ-104 was its replacement, but was unable to make the trip until the 21st of November. There's an interesting sub-PoD there mind you- if Lettow-Vorbeck had been able to stay in the flatter ground for longer, it might well be that the drama of a succesful ressupply by airship could have caught the public imagination.
