    Least favorite alt-history story?

Listen up, I'm also trying to find out the truth here, but unfortunately, I have to deal with many sources which, well, aren't perfect, and even try to excuse him!

    Least favorite alt-history story?

@David Flin : See, that's at least online research done right. It doesn't answer exactly how much he knew, but it's a good start. It's surprising BTW that the Einsatzgruppe in question was so small - but as stated, they planned to find native "helpers" (and I bet they'd have found them). How...

    Incredibly pat historical occurrences

The two most important politicians of the big country Indonesia named Suharto and Sukarno? Just two letters difference? Too much of a coincidence. Lazy author with no fantasy.

    Stephen King's "11/22/63"

The ending of "Pet Semetary" was good, methinks.

Honorary AH: Hugo Bettauer's "The City without Jews"

Oh, BTW: If you plan to read the German version, choose the one at projekt-gutenberg.org It's divvied up in chapters, whereas project-gutenberg.org offers it in one file, but I recommend the former site because the other version is lacking two chapters. Incl. one about the small party with the...

    Least favorite alt-history story?

Oh, you think Rommel had just been joking? Theoretically he could have, but the "Führer" definitely reacted as if he had been serious and told Rommel that he didn't get what national socialism meant. - And the "führer" also took Blaskowitz' critic serious enough to tell him that the war wasn't...

    Incredibly pat historical occurrences

The neonazi terrorist Beate Zschäpe had for some time a team of three lawyers - named Heer, Sturm, and Stahl. One? Odd enough. Two? Nonsensical. Three? Now that's madness.

Honorary AH: Hugo Bettauer's "The City without Jews"

This story was published between the world wars. Bettauer was a Viennese bestseller author at that time, more famous for criminal novels. This one, however, is different. It's set shortly into the (1920s') future of Austria, which suffers under the post-WW1 malaise, like hyperinflation (even if...

Political and cultural figures who could've had lives/careers in different countries

It's "You: this" in his native language, because that was his style giving quick commands. Now think how to make this possible if his family emigrates.

If you want, but I've been thinking about the US.

Didn't he originally want to have a political career? Yeah, and then there was the scandal in 1974. And even then he didn't give it up.

The question here would be: Is imperialism without genocide morally better than, well, genocide? You should know the answer.

    Least favorite alt-history story?

Recently I read something about him... it sounds sheer unbelievable, but I can't refute it. What he did? At some point, he suggested to the "führer" that it might help the Reich if they demonstrated that a Jew could become a gauleiter(!!!). Hm. Not so much "in the know, but reluctant" but...

    Least favorite alt-history story?

Don't know whether you'd count a random general as such, but Johannes Blaskowitz called the Nazis out on the murders in Poland, as early as 1939. Took the freedom to translate his protests here.

WI Roosevelt does not become NY governor in '28?

Moses? As in, Robert Moses? Great... now the US will turn into a technocratic dystopia, or at least something that looks like it.

AFAIR the Confederates (in that book) only liberated their slaves because they can profit even more from exploiting the nominally free, but poor and defenseless ex-slaves. Notwithstanding that they supposedly have a better life than the poor people in the North.

Political and cultural figures who could've had lives/careers in different countries

If you want something like that, you'll also need Erdogan to change his political convictions - or hide them very well. Because most ethnics made their career (like Özdemir) in the more or less leftist parties: Bündnis 90/Greens, SPD, PDS.

    Alternate History General Discussion

"Early" I understand - but later, how? The PoD used in "Bring the Jubilee" (CSA gets the Round Tops at Gettysburg) wouldn't work either? And wouldn't everything that speaks against Britain supporting the CSA IOTL speak against it in ATLs either? So if Britain doesn't help them - how can they...

    Alternate History General Discussion

At the very least he had a famous name. Why didn't voters like him? Also, I wonder now whether he might've become POTUS if both Joe and Jack Kennedy had died in the war or otherwise. Or would "Teddy" make it instead in that case, Chappaquiddick-like scandals notwithstanding?
