Mundial: An alternative history of the Football World Cup

That ought to put bums on seats.

Mundial: An alternative history of the Football World Cup

I'm kind of hoping they keep the straight knockout ITTL and end up with something like 128 teams by 2022. Although the first round games might be a bit lopsided at times...

I mean, they're common enough names that it's not a surprise as such...

Sport in Alternate History. Part 2 - Disasters.

The British Royal Family also make a point of not travelling all together.

Sport in Alternate History. Part 2 - Disasters.

Not quite I don't think, but it does happen a fair bit (Cory Lidle being another baseball one which wasn't mentioned yet). Car accidents (and, in one recent baseball case, a boat accident) too.

Sport in Alternate History. Part 1.

For my fictional verse (which I've posted bit and pieces of) I've "invented" two sports, versions of American Football (although it takes more from the CFL, really) and Hockey. Soccer and Baseball also exist in that universe. None of this is ever likely to be relevant to the plot of anything I...

    Least favorite alt-history story?

They did keep the "I was right!!!" "No, you were Wright!" thing though, iirc, so that has to be admired.

Alternate History and Terry Pratchett. Part 4: Lords and Ladies

The annotations only go as far as A Hat Full of Sky though, unfortunately.

    Least favorite alt-history story?

Given that he got banned from the other place for, in so many words, saying that he would kill all Muslims if given the chance, I think it's pretty reasonable to put him in the pile of "nope".

    Least favorite alt-history story?

What. If I was going to do *anything* like that I'd have put my tongue very firmly in my cheek and just used a pic of Lady Gaga as a nod to the (stupid AF) conspiracy theory.

    Queen Margaret?

I can feel Chips Channon's rage at that from across multiple timelines.

    Upgrades to the forum

I've noticed that linking to a specific post (mostly noticeable when clicking on an alert) seems to actually place the view slightly off that post (sometimes to the point that you can't see the post you linked to) if there is any media on that page. That didn't used to be an issue, although I've...

Scenes We'd Like To See: Alternate Movies, Television & Other Pop Culture Miscellanea

Strictly speaking this could actually happen in future, but I'm putting it here, because I'm not sure it will. Now all three volumes have been released I would like to see a dramatisation of the Chips Channon Diaries. Casting wise the only thing that comes to mind is Benedict Cumberbatch as...

The Borders of Genre: The Glorification of Fascism Within Alternate History

People whitewash Hess because "he wanted peace", essentially.

The Borders of Genre: The Glorification of Fascism Within Alternate History

Clean Kriegsmarine seems to be a relatively common thing as well, which is what I was getting at with Das Boot. So, effectively "the navy weren't *really* Nazis, you see". Rommel is the other general who gets a lot of whitewashing. Hess and Canaris get it too.

The Borders of Genre: The Glorification of Fascism Within Alternate History

The question, I suppose, is what do we want to "allow" in stories about Nazi Germany? It should be *possible* to tell stories where Germany does better in ww2 without actually being a Nazi or an apologist. Is it worth the risk? Maybe not in most cases. I do wonder if something like Das Boot was...

The Borders of Genre: The Glorification of Fascism Within Alternate History

I think we will get a lot of Russia / Ukraine WIs and Covid related WIs in the next decade or so. It won't displace ww2, but it might help a little bit.
