What would a Gore presidency look like?

I'm personally enjoying seeing the POD's forum active for once, tbh. Nice to see some enthusiasm.

    Least favorite alt-history story?

I think in terms of amateur ah, a lot of the problems come from two different cultures running into each other and influencing each other badly. On the one hand you have people who want to write cool stories and don't care much about plausibility to get there. This is how most published AH is...

    Least favorite alt-history story?

Yeah but that's true for all cold war confrontations. It's more logical to back down than fight because if you fight, you kill everyone. But we know the orders nato and wp commanders received during that time period. During the Cuban missile crisis for instance, the soviets were ordered to fire...

    Least favorite alt-history story?

Nothing's impossible, but tough to sell I'd say You need to keep the stakes low enough that nukes won't be used while still having all the men and material used in an actual war needed, which is a difficult needle to thread. In OTL you had stuff like Korea and Angola where huge amounts of men...

    Alternate Wikibox Thread

Obviously this isn't a plausible timeline at all but I do find the increasingly Palpatine like Blair still ruling in the 2030s hilarious. So good job. It's the way you totally buried the lead so you don't expect to keep seeing Blair combined with the fact the joke just keeps on going.

    Corbyn PODs

May couldn't be voted out as leader cos she won the confidence of tory mps and so couldn't be challenged for 12 months. In terms of a deal passing through parliament with the 2017 mps, well it happened otl with Johnson's deal despite corbyn whipping against it. If instead May convinces corbyn...

Africa during the Scramble: The Herero, the Nama and the Germans Part 2

This is the next topic but I think you can recognise both that the Free State was particularly awful and that the situation is such that any colonial rulers of that area would be pretty nasty. Rubber colonies always were even when Leopold wasn't involved.

    Corbyn PODs

Assuming a remain vote means no snap elections and we'd be planning for one now, you'd pretty much have to have a national government as soon as you delay it due to the pandemic wouldn't you?

Really love this article. I was delighted when it was sent to me and I saw Charles had written little Dandy style sub headings.

Africa during the Scramble: The Herero, the Nama and the Germans Part 2

Incidentally @SenatorChickpea the white australian briefly mentioned in the article for joining up with the Nama guerillas in their war of venegnce after the Herero genocide was named Edward Presgrave. He'd come to Africa as part of the recruits for the Second Boer war and just kind of stuck...

Africa during the Scramble: The Herero, the Nama and the Germans Part 2

Yes, that was largely the point of this. There's been a number of happier Africa timelines and there's essentially two ways to do that if your POD is prior to 1950. You can avoid European colonialism to a much greater extent or you can make European colonialism kinder and the latter tends to be...
