Lists of Heads of Government and Heads of State

0/10 no recall referenda for MPs.
It was already passed in the times of the Green Coalition Government.

Note however that the recall referenda wasn’t initially allowed to be online and that the votes needed to be send in person to the MP’s office, the results only being accepted if the office isn’t closed.

After a while certain MPs realized this loophole and exploited it,only ceasing as a practice in the mid 2000’s during the Davis Government, which declared that votes can also be sent via the post office and counted by the local elected police commissioner.

Due to the certain pandemic, the law has been modified to allow people to partake in the special referendums online on special IPads distributed by the greater county councils.

Yeah man, try having them actually IN your country. I drive by idiots with campaign signs in their front yard for 'em every day. I hear about them doing little marches about how 5G is causing COVID. Shit sucks.
It does raise a worrying spectre of what's going to fill the void left by NZ First. We're trading a racist grandad for an alt-right uncle.

Trump would nearly blow his lead against Reagan's VP in 1988. As much as Lee Atwater tried to tie Trump to Gary Hart or Jesse Jackson, enough voters trusted the business mogul and his conservative southern running mate. Their trust was perhaps misplaced. A bad recession combined with devastating foreign policy debacles in Iraq and Russia put President Trump in a position where he could be knocked off by a surprise primary challenger.

Jerry Brown would also win by narrow margins. His victory over a divided field made up of Bush's running mate during the last cycle, the controversial Massachusetts Governor who had won the endorsement of President Trump, and the Klansman Governor of Louisiana. Republican turnout was severely dampened by their nominee's pro-choice stance while Silber went on the trail complaining that President Trump had been "run out of office by political correctness." Duke would win his home state on election night. Brown led a pretty unremarkable administration. His major accomplishments (the Flat Tax, the Balance Budget Amendment, and the virtual end of welfare) had quickly been claimed by the Republican Congress. The power vacuum left in Iraq after Brown withdrew US troops only garnered him greater ire from Republicans.

Morry Taylor was a surprising choice for the Presidency. Having come out on top of a divided GOP field by distinguishing himself with protectionism and racebaiting the republics of China, Japan, and Korea - who he saw as America's biggest threats. Uniting the RNC by vowing a 'co-presidency' with Antonin Scalia, Taylor would make quick work of President Brown and Senator Lamm. Of course, governing is harder than campaigning. Although he would earn cheap points by striking at the UN following the cataclysmic Intervention in Zaire, he would at best be seen as a puppet for House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Vice President Scalia, cornered out of White House decision-making, announced that he would not be seeking a second term as VP in January, 2000.

Media mogul Ted Turner's election would cement the Democratic Party's shift to free trade neoliberalism. Despite his massive polling lead, Turner would almost sacrifice his chances in a gaffe where he said "good riddance" in response to an exodus of union workers to James Hoffa's campaign. President Turner was just getting settled into the presidency when a dirty bomb would destroy most of the National Mall in June, 2001. Within hours, Al-Qaeda had claimed responsibility for the attack and had done so using nuclear material extracted from the collapsing state of Pakistan. By the end of the year the United States would invade both Afghanistan and Pakistan in the hopes of tracking down Al-Qaeda's leaders and defeating Islamic fundamentalist political factions.

After all that American needed a general in charge. At least that's what the GOP would have you believe. Karl Rove's golden boy slammed President Turner for not doing enough to keep America safe (re: not invading Iran). A wartime America couldn't resist voting in a military leader, especially as President Turner faced increasing pressure from his left in the form of Al Sharpton's Independence Party entryists. President Wesley Clark launched the invasion of Iran in early 2006, the domestic internment camps opened in early 2007. As fortunes in Iran continued to worsen, domestic crackdowns heightened. President Clark sat vulnerable on his thrown of bayonets.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was quickly ushered through the Democratic primaries as an anti-war and anti-internment candidate (but not too anti). He would beat President Clark relatively handily as body bags and horror stories rolled in from Tehran and Casper. The Stock Market crashed in late 2009 and President Cuomo's subsequent Wall Street bailout was heavily criticized by nearly every facet of the American political world. The newly election Republican Congress would be unwilling to work with President Cuomo to pass a comprehensive stimulus bill and America would go into 2012 hurting.

Justice Clarence Thomas weathered the storm as the "more moderate" establishment candidate in the midst of a primary field dominated by new and radicalized Liberty Brigade politicians. His victory over President Cuomo was not all too surprising when it happened, either. Thomas led a relatively obscure administration. The economy sluggishly tried to recover and the most tangible way the President appeared in Americans' lives were through his ramped up 'law and order' policies.

Gates and McAfee promised exciting alternatives to the boring, mild-mannered authoritarian Clarence Thomas. Gates excited a collapsing middle America that desperately sought change and trusted his reliable persona while McAfee excited the young technologically adept radicals who had been hardened by Clark's War in Iran, Cuomo's War on the Poor, and Thomas and AG Scalia's resumed War on Drugs. In the end Gates would take it but McAfee would perform much better than expected. But as had become the norm, things would become a lot harder for Gates once in office. His relationship with congress quickly collapsed, America's right went wild with EmailGate conspiracies of high-profile Democrats organizing a child sex ring (these accusations were not helped by the arrests of former Secretary of Commerce Jeff Epstein and former VP Bill Richardson for human trafficking in 2017), and the globe was devastated by the Ebolavirus pandemic in 2019. Although Gates tried desperately to save face, he had 50,000 dead Americans to contend with.

Arizona Governor Steven Seagal had won in a landslide. Ties to Eurasian President Zhirinovsky be damned. As Seagal entered the Oval Office, he vowed to launch a crusade against Ebolavirus, 5G, pedophilia, and Islamic terrorism. In the Republic of China and the European Union - what was left of the Free World - people despaired.

News of the World-29 August 1941:

-the NRG and the WDGR continue to elude and scare the governments of Europe, both enraptured in magical isolating barriers that guarantees them protection from the outside world. Grand State Chief Esoteric Trebitsch-Lincoln‘s recent attempted astral invasion of Tibet has forced the Chinese Government to conduct peace treaties with Japan and the USSR in order to deal with this event properly, while in the WDGR Comrade Jogiches is considering what is the proper way to deal with Chief State Scientist Wilhelm Reich and his controversial Sexual Rays Machine. Half of the Party considers it a useful weapon against imperialist and Stalinist attacks, while others(including former retired Secretary General and mentor of Jogiches Rosa Luxemburg) consider it to be morally wrong and proof that Reich is ,quote,“a lunatic and a pervert who’s clearly only mostly interested in making his fucked up sexual fantasies a reality”,as Bertolt Brecht put it in one of his articles.

-the FGR’s Chief State Magician,Riki Volksbregg, announced to the Bundestag that Dr Mabuse has finally been caught by the police while trying and failing to rob the Ministry of Esoteric Arts and that the elusive Brotherhood of the Boot has been stopped from bombing Bonn and were cited to be heading towards the border with Denmark. The Ministry warned citizens to take care and avoid any contact with the Brotherhood, less they get infected with by them with mind radiation.Chancellor Cassirer assured the citizens of the Republic however not to panic and stay calm in face on danger, continuing their activities as normal.

Three more nuclear factories have been inaugurated meanwhile, along with a second Death Ray Base in response to the People’s Socialist French Government’s more aggressive actions lately and a new state TV channel for the newer parties to use for their political uses.

-in Spain, the new host of Marcellino Pan y Vino (Chief Super-powered Lawman of Spain and third most powerful person in charge politically in Spain along with the King and the Prime Minister) has shocked and confused political commentators, after it was revealed to be Eric Blair, known Anarchist MP and writer for The New Statesman. The Spirit of Marcellino assured the Parliament however that there were good reasons for his choice and that change must happen in a healthy democratic society,as Prime Minister Azaña said it in a more eloquent manner five years ago, proceeding to possess Mr Blair in the Constitutionally accepted manner and go doing what he must do.

[1] - Charles Edward Stuart had been rarely thought of for decades by the time of the birth of his son, James Edgar Stuart, in 1779 - although the boy was widely rumoured to have been fathered by the poet, Count Alfieri. The birth of a new heir to the Stuart claim attracted the attention of the French government, which added the elderly, gouty Charles 'III' to the complement of its expedition against the Isle of Wight as a distraction from the American Revolutionary War. A combined Franco-Spanish fleet descended on the island in August, with the intention of going on to cross the Solent and take the key naval base of Portsmouth. However, the Royal Navy was effective in harrying the supply lines of the invasion force and the allied force was beset with administrative bungles. Charles held court in Ryde for three weeks before the expedition returned to Le Havre in disgrace.

[2] - As the level of interest in the House of Stuart amongst the British populace was essentially zilch, that was where matters should have rested - but in 1809, Napoleon summoned the Young Pretender's widow to his court and asked her whether the man had any legitimate heirs. The putative Queen Mother replied that her son was then resident in Rome and was, furthermore, listed in all reputable editions of the Almanach de Gotha, at which point Napoleon did some basic research and found that she was indeed correct. The Younger Pretender was duly dispatched in a Dutch fishing vessel which sank in high seas off the coast of Arbroath.

[3] - James Edgar Stuart had, before his untimely death, had a son of his own with a member of a minor branch of the Malaspina family, who was now propelled into the limelight as Charles IV of England, Scotland and Ireland. The child was made unwelcome in the courts of Europe after the Congress of Vienna - both because of his links with the Napoleonic experiment and because the British were now one of the guarantors of peace on the Continent. After a stay in St Petersburg, Charles Henry Stuart settled in a villa in the northern end of Lazio, where he established himself as one of the foremost entomologists of the period. However, the duty of the House of Stuart called to him in the febrile year of 1848, when an uprising in Ireland seemed to indicate the creation of an independent Catholic state in Britain. However, it was not to be, and the largely liberal and republican Young Irelanders viewed the reactionary foreign interloper with suspicion when he arrived with several dozen antique muskets and proposals for uniforms based on those of the Papal Zouaves. Charles Henry Stuart escaped from the 'Battle' of Callan by hiding up an oak-apple tree, before scurrying out of the country.

[4] - Charles Henry Stuart's Irish adventure was not a complete wash-out, however - he gained a glimmer of military experience which he built upon in the service of the royalist forces of the Two Sicilies during the Risorgimento, and he also gained some contacts in the Irish nationalist movement. During a scientific trip to the USA, the Even Younger Pretender noted an outbreak of sectarian warfare to the north, and crossed the border at Niagara to take command of a Fenian force. The rebels, supported by American officers, initially held the inititiative against the unprepared militiamen ranged against them, but many lost heart when the King of Canada (as he called himself) was killed by a stray bullet at the Battle of Fort Erie.

[5] - The final scion of the House of Stuart, a descendant of Charles Henry by a Sicilian wife, was James Francis Robert Stuart. James was not so much a soldier of fortune as a soldier of principle, fighting for the Whites in the Russian Civil War, the Nationalists (specifically the Carlists) in the Spanish Civil War, the Cristeros in Mexico and even the Ethiopians against the Fascist Italians, whom he considered to be dangerously socialistic and irreligious. It was, however, his fate to compromise his ideals in pursuit of his ambition. He acted as a puppet figurehead for the German-occupied parts of Southern England from 1940 until his death in 1943, killed by a Resistance bomb in his capital of Winchester. The legitimate descendants of James II became extinct with his demise, and Elizabeth II was restored after the conclusion of the War, until of course the young Queen was deposed by the Democratic Bloc in 1947.
