united by aqueous biology, joined in harmony, together our free allegory-you-can-understand will engage in conflict against the many existential enemies surrounding and ruling over us, nice

THAT IS OUR MOTTO!

SAY “HI” TO THE CONDUCTOR - GOOD SHIP OATH-KEEPER, WHO HAS FOUGHT THE ETERNAL EMPIRE BEFORE AND GRACIOUSLY AGREED TO HOST OUR YOUNG ALLIANCE

THANK YOU FOR THE MANY WEAPONS YOU HAVE AROUND US, OATH-KEEPER!

THE STRINGS SECTION - IRONIC BECAUSE THE BEINGS THAT YOU WILL NOW REFER TO AS THE ATWAN HAVE NO APPENDAGES

OR YOUR EARTH COBRAS

PLEASE DO NOT BE RUDE TO THEM THEY OUTNUMBER YOU AND ARE MORE KIND THAN AN EARTH COBRA BUT ALSO MORE BETTER AT TOOL USE

THE OON ARE [UNTRANSLATABLE 3] BUT FOR SOME REASON YOU USE PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS FOR THAT

THEY HAVE BETTER NATURAL CAMOUFLAGE THAN YOUR EARTH MILITARY AND A CULTURE OF ELABORATE NON-VISUAL RITUAL BUT THEY WILL ONLY SURPRISE YOU TO ELICIT LAUGHS HAHA OR WHEN HUNTING FLIGHTLESS ANIMALS FROM ABOVE

DELIGHTFUL WOODWIND INSTRUMENTS ARE THE AEBAUVI, WITH THEIR SENSE OF HUMOR AND CHARM AND BOUNDLESS ART AND CONFIDENCE

THEY WILL NOT INVITE YOU TO THEIR BROOD NAME FIGHTS TO THE DEATH BUT THAT IS ONLY BECAUSE THEY DO NOT RESPECT YOU

YOU: THE BRASS SECTION

JOY! YOU HAVE SKILLS PROBABLY. EITHER WAY YOU ARE WITH US NOW BECAUSE OF THE VINDICTIVE STREAK OF OUR MANY ENEMIES.

SIDENOTE PLEASE TONE DOWN YOUR BIZARRE CASTE SYSTEM OF FE AND MALE, IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE

I like the (I presume) case of a currently relatively obscure media receiving a big-budget mass adaptation which later leads to its obscure names becoming mainstream, as has happened in our own time with George RR Martin - in this case 'Ibtisam' jumped out at me from the X-wing comics.

Even without footnotes, ~250 years of suitably zany twists and turns was entertaining enough. Can't wait for the details.
That name just screams interesting.

Thanks!

In this case it’s less a question of coming up with stuff and more “how do I prevent the footnotes from becoming horrifying kudzu that overruns everything”.

in the very *broadest* terms, green-descended parties (Caucus, Jadefire) are big on mitigating environmental collapse, not big on transhuman-capitalism, and as of present day have booted the Evolved Rich into space and started dismantling biological families with varying degrees of force necessary

Ibtisam is adapted from the (already existing) name, but I do like your head-canon.

[1] Beto was elected on being all things to all people and - weirdly - did not utterly fail. Republicans mostly concentrated their fire on the President's "weirdness" and failed to adequately demonstrate that Speaker Luján was also a instagram fiend / punk rocker. Democrats were happy to have a President that appointed left-wing SC justices and (vaguely) got an agenda through Congress - and more to the point, Republicans could not decide whether to bury Trump or to praise him, and in 2024 tried to do both.

[2] James had been mocked as the "Republican Obama" in '24 and owed his success in 2028 largely to Republicans now longing for the days when Democrats had nominated "respectable" law-professors as opposed to the hokey stunts of the O'Rourke second term. But following up on his own promises - and placating ex-President Trump's base - proved an impossible balancing act. He was toppled by the populist Senator from Missouri but managed to scrub enough white-nationalism out of the GOP that Governor Sullivan would have an easier time controlling her party.

[3] Zoeller was by far the most talented of the Quade-ocrats, which meant he took time off from coal-mine photoshoots to make college free and make AOC Ambassador to the UN. You could argue that his policy of essentially giving random wins to the left of the party compromised a "unified" vision but he's also the last Democratic to get a Democrat elected after him in, uh, a democratic election, so swings and roundabouts.

[4] Should probably be updating you on what's going on more frequently but, yeah, Madden and Shore were good Rust Belt liberals that opened the Pandora's Box of genetic modification, Webber passed the Kuala Belait protocols and got primaried for his pains, and large portions of Antarctica became ocean. This half-century was mostly marked by Presidents trying not to say "too high" when Beijing asked for jumping and such, and space exploration and space elevator investment that future generations on Earth would write-off as The Start Of A Bad Thing.

[5] First NB president, although this has (I guess?) wokely been overshadowed in the historical record by the world economy crashing. The issue is not that 7th Gen AI can't run economies but more that they collectively conclude that massive peaks and troughs spur on human creativity and innovation which, uh, bad. So economists went back to the drawing board, and China, who had bought most into the idea, did not handle the news well and went a wee bit Anarchism with a Taoist Face, leading to ->

[6] India, Korea, etc. went "we are the new Dad now" and large parts of the world went "um" because India was a Scary New Dad that wanted Bangladesh to stop flooding and was actually willing to crack-down on growth to do so. The US was considerably not a fan of either of these components, and del Valle found close allies in the East African Confederation, who justifiably wanted to not stop becoming-a-developed-nation just because India wanted to keep some cows and coastline around.

[7] And then India actually landed troops in Kismayo and US arms-dealers got shelled and efficiently got the fuck out of there. del Valle unconvincingly argued that this had been part of a larger plan, Democrats were still useless after the 2105 crash, and Oh went "right at least I will admit that we are sucking up to India and actively lean into it". This sort of worked, albeit the fear that the 2nd World Power spot would be taken by Brazil or (fucking nuts) Russia pushed del Valle back into office. She then promptly did nothing again, and Oh, who by this time was aggressive enough to agree w/ Oberoi in New Delhi that Transhumanism was a luxury that a drowning Earth could ill-afford, spent her second term stomping on insurgencies across East Africa.

[8] Yasmin Bouaziz was a lefty dVpublican that argued no, we should push back into space and transhuman modifications gave us the tools to do it, in the form of the Imago Project. Investment on a massive scale finally cracked the nervous system barrier and produced nanobio tech that could interface accurately with the brain itself (rumors that the technological solution to this is massively unethical are, er, true) - instead of prenatal editing one could now physically reconfigure themself, albeit with mass/energy constraints. Transhumanism promptly went from a little tinkering you could scrimp and save on to get for the kids to - ah - a familial arms race. It also became a quite literal arms race in Burma, and the revelation that this was because Bouaziz had dropped some fancy new tech there to give India a black eye led to impeachment on a rather rapid scale.

[9] But both Republicans and (aging) Democrats rallied around Bouaziz in 2148 as a victim of partisan impeachment - more funding, surely, had to be plunged into this. Mayor Llorens of Miami disagreed, mainly because his city was still on the verge of drowning, and he came up the middle in the election with the full-throated support of the Bollywood Cultural Complex. All well and good so far, except that Llorens migrated from "maybe money should be spent elsewhere" to "maybe the rich should spend more" to "maybe by virtue of being mostly bio-tech you forfeit most of your rights" - and with the US swinging towards total support, India finally felt free to pacify the various warring states in China and Pacify Pakistan.

Llorens, with a base to enthuse and Reco horrors to oppose, turned things up to 11 with his "defection" to JadeFire, which up to now had consisted of a dozen ethicists and a parrot, and declared his willingness to help India create a Natural New World. He failed, narrowly - the First Systemic War raged for six years, almost resulted in Big Rocks being dropped in the Indian Ocean, and took some very nasty nanobio warfare - and the utter collapse of India's will to fight - to come to an end. Llorens himself sued for peace before navies could cross the Atlantic and Pacific and the US emerged mostly untouched - it was as a quid pro quo, probably, that his trial for war crimes ended in genteel house arrest.

[10] Pres. pro Tem. Gill was ancient but had enough clout to make his Presidency stick - the Emperors' Pact, fortunately for him, was big on India-not-telling-us-what-to-do but did not care about democracy all that much. [11]
